  • Puro mexico

  • Olivares the only one to stop the great Jose Luis Ramirez, not even Chavez,Arguello,Chapo Rosario or Camacho could stop Ramirez.Ramirez gave Arguello a nightmare and he was the first to drop Arguello on his butt. Rosario,Whittaker

  • Great video. Chacon and Olivares were the two best 'value for money' fighters of their era, along with Victor Galindez and Matthew Saad Muhammad.

  • @iljn1988

Carlos Zarate was not bad to what i like about Zarate when i lost the belt WBC i stop boxing whit one record of 66 win 63 KO only 4 lost at the end alltogether 70 fights lost is title whit Wilfredo Gomez many peoples said i was sick , .i remember Olivares

they call him the artist of knock out ,

  • olivares had that sweet left hook. if he caught a guy clean, there was going to be some thunder. what a hitter

  • @boxerrick1966 Yep, Olivares' left hook was technically perfect and about as explosive as it gets. Minimum effort with maximum effect. Plus the little guy was quite a savvy boxer. When he was right, Ruben was just about the best bantamweight of all time. The same could be said, of course, about Zarate and Jofre.

  • and ill take the great Kostya Tszyu at 140

  • olivarez lost the rematch

  • I was just reflecting on my life as a kid and remembering Ruben Olivares winning his title fight against Lionel Rose. I recall Rose's face all twisted abruised from the beating he took. I just wanted to see my dad's face again. He was Olivares' trainer, the one with sunglasses who meets Olivares in the ring when the fight was stopped. My brother is the one in overalls who picks up Olivares. You see, my dad just passes away and I just wanted to reflect.

  • This is a far more impressive display of finishing than anything you'll see from Mike Tyson or George Foreman.

Olivares doesn't throw a single wild punch. He doesn't rush in and get tangled in a clinch. He's supremely patient, measures his attack, and makes every punch count.

This is power punching and attacking boxing at its best. Fantastic.

  • @garethac81 Great insight on the intelligence, patience, and accuracy of one of the g.o.a.t's of boxing. Olivares is the greatest 118 pounder, and he destroyed the naturally bigger Chacon and he got a nice haircut.

  • The RING was right. Just like Valero

  • Seen a couple of fights of Ruben Olivares. He has a habit of hitting his opponent while holding his head down.

  • olivares was a lighter version of archie moore.he had more ko"s then most 2or 3 fighters had fights.

  • ...I both love and respect both of these fighters. Chacon loved to trade and had a booming right hand...But you also have love Olivares' left hook. THAT was a thing of Beauty!

    Echale pinche puas!!!!!!!

    Viva Mexico!!!!!!!!!!

  • bobby chacon is my grandfather this is so cool ^_^

  • that is quite an honor.

  • I recall watching "Schoolboy" Bobby Chacon while growing up in L.A. His skills, charm, and youth inspired many young people. Reminds me also of glory days of the Olympic Auditorium. Cheers.

  • escriban espanol mexicanos ignorantes,,,,fuck you

  • no fuck you at least we have good fighters (i have seen no one from Peru) go back to fuck your hamas!!!

  • thats llamas

  • well yes it is (do you want a cookie now)

  • FK you brother ! I got to tell you when it come to ugly your people take first place ! INDIOS con CHINO ! ! dam mother fk that is ugly ! wouldn't fuck any of you women with your tiny dick !

  • fuck you pendejo(Let the chinos rule you again)

    so no go fuck yourself!!!

  • Olivarez got knock out by Alexis Arguello en LA

  • Mike 'who put a tattoo on my head?' Tyson is greatest of all time.

    Thanks for great video:)

  • study these guys cuz tyson was not the best of all time, although he was close in his prime but in that prime george foreman would have lifted him up on his feet and down to his ass like smokin joe, and ali in his prime would make tyson look all bustered up

  • "Schoolboy Bobby" was not even close to being knocked down but Ruben was a machine like no other at his best.

The Schoolboy has weathered some tough storms

    but is still battling.

Hats off to Schoolboy Bobby Chacon, the all-time crowd-pleaser!

  • Ruben Olivares is one of the best boxers ever. The saddest part of his career was his 1978 last hurrah against Eusebio Pedroza that took place in Houston. The fans came out that day to see if he could turn back the hands of time. Great fighter.

  • didn't see that fight or know much about it, so thanks for the info, but his trilogy with castillo were the best fights i have seen in a long time of following this, the sport of kings.

  • I would probably rate the top 3 Mexican fighters, in order, Chavez, then Sanchez, then Olivares, with guys like Lopez, Zarate, Canto, Morales, Barrera, and Pintor right behind them. The only reason Sanchez is #2 though, is because he died before he could achieve all that he could achieve. Personally, I think Sanchez beats Chavez if they ever fought.

  • Another question 4u: Lots of people dont know this but Chavez and Wilfredo Gomez were near signing for a fight at 130 in 1985-86. Who do you think would have won? Being an unpartial fan I think Chavez would have beaten my fellow Boricua in round 8, not without going through hell first. Gomez would have beaten Chavez at 122 but Chavez was at his prime at 130 and Gomez way over his heyday.

  • I agree, Chavez beats Gomez. His power decreased as he went up in weight, and his natural weight anyway was 122. Chavez' all-time chin would have stood up to anything that Gomez threw at it, and Chavez probably stops him in 8 rounds. Gomez would go out like a warrior though.

  • no doubt u cannot compare such weight differences when they are so little, but chavez got his ass handed to him by oscar and kostya for being such an ass, he was fabulous in the late 30s and at 140, the great salvador beats his ass at 130

  • Your right, he stole the 130 title from Lockridge and lost to unknown Alfredo Layne. Gomez was on his way out.

  • Actually, about the Lockridge fight, I'd say he stole it-the good way. He lost the first seven rounds of the fight but I had him win the last 8, when he came back. Many say that was a robbery but it was actually a fight that could have gone either way.

Lots of people dont know this but Gomez and the Sanchez family are actually best friends now.

    Viva la raza!

  • i can agree with that and good to see an intelligent fight fan not voting with his heart but his head, as great as gomez was the best was sanchez and yes chavez too big at 138, but sal would of kicked chavez ass and whitaker too.

  • @flyinghotwing Sal Sanchez was special, but he fought at 122 pounds in his best days..... Chavez peaked at 135 and Whitaker peaked most at 140 and was game at even 147. I think Sanchez and Chavez would have been a possibility late in the eighties, but never Sanchez against Whitaker.

  • @Luisezuniga sanchez= 120s, chavez= 130s, whitaker=130s/40s...almost could be said they fought at different weights tho perhaps chavez and whitaker fought best around the mid 30s?

  • @Luisezuniga Sanchez was also very young when he died, only 22 or 23? So, he probably would have gone up in weight to fight some of those guys.

  • @flyinghotwing goes to show you, i thank you for the corrections in weight...it is always impossible to pit fighters from different eras even if they are the same wt....all you can do is speculate what if...ali v tyson, etc...so we can offer opinions and never anything else...sufice it to say Sanchez, IMO, was the best ever to come out of the great fighting country of mexico

  • I love Puas-and Im Puerto Rican!-actually I love all Mexican greats, cause they are my brothers in Raza. But who was better in your opinion, Puas, Sal Sanchez or Chavez?

Bobby Chacon was an all time great with a huge heart too but if the Duk Koo Kim death in 1982 did bring something good was that today fights are stopped earlier. This fight would have been over much earlier today, Chacon took unneserary punishment there.

  • Yeah, but that was kind of the story of Chacon's career anyway. I was a year old when this fight happened, but I remember watching him in all-out wars a few years later with Boza Edwards, Limon, Chacon, and Mancini. He took abuse for a long time, and even when he was KOd he almost always standing. We like sluggers, but they pay a hell of a price.

  • Thanks for posting this classic. Olivares was a true legend.

  • Thank you for posting this. El Puas Ruben Olivares was a mexican great that fought too long and lived too hard.

  • yup, one of the greats. My dad says that they used to take Puas out of the bar to go fight, he would usually win and then go back to the bar...Maybe he coulf of done more if he would of been disciplined.

  • Yeah I heard the same. He was known to love pulque and the whole scene. Sal Sanchez was the truth and a unique mexican.

  • Sal Will always live in our hearts...
