Your SSB BFO is "beating" on the AM carrier, this is normal. At most you may need a small alignment on SSB as these receivers are showing their age.

The radio you have is very nice. I own the one. No trouble with yours. When you receive normal AM wave on USB or LSB mode, the radio whistles like yours. Good luck.

I think this is normal behaviour on an HF-225; all the models I've seen do this.
