Did Manfred Mann ever do anything (good) besides ripping off Springsteen? Before I heard the original version I thought his cover of "Blinded..." was good, but then I heard the original version and I think it's so so much better. Others can try to copy Springsteen, but they never seem to be able to reproduce the feel, the soulfulness, or the passion he endows his songs with.

Check out the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version. It's 1000 times better than Springsteen's version.

I wrote that the MMEB versions of "Blinded", "Spirits" and "For You" are more famous than Springsteen's versions and also sold better, whih by the way is true, but I never intended to compare MMEB's and Springsteen's success in general. Although you're right, Springsteen is still famous and successful, at least in the USA...

Just because Manfred Mann's Earth Band took three Springsteen songs and made them more ACCESSIBLE does not make the originals any less wonderful or synonymous with Bruce. just cause they made it sound really commercial and cut out some words so that blinded no longer makes sence and they added synthesizers doesn't make their version any better. Bruce's version is sposed to be party rock and it does a dang good job.

Also manfred mann was already a band with a couple hits (do-wah-diddy, pretty flamingo ) before they had most all members swapped becoming a new incarnation of the band and becoming Manfred Mann's EARTH BAND - They played off the success of the band before them - also the reason it was a number one hit was because they switched the word to DOUCHE insteada deuce (like the beach boys lil deuce coop) so everyone was like haha they said a womans cleaning implement guys you gotta check it out

and also the original songs for you, Spirit in the night and Blinded by the light were not to be huge successes - Spirits in the night was a party rock live piece (which is so cool) and the other two songs For you and Blinded by the light were supposed to be folky with an acoustic flavor and long winded dylanish verses ... which they wrecked ... but bruce is sucha nice guy he let them use his songs and get hits with them ...he's the king of rock n roll you can't do better than him manfred sucks
