This has been bothering me for almost 2 years now. Wasn't sure if I damaged the lens or what. Turns out it was a known issue with an easy fix... Thanks!
Here is how i fixed mine, as I found I could not tighten the screws down any further. I cut small discs of Aluminium foil, a little larger than the diameter of the screw head using curved nail scissors. I then pushed the threaded end of the screw though the centre of the foil disc, to make a tiny washer or shim disc. I then reinserted the screw with the washer, tightened up, just perfect, it has not moved in 6 months of almost daily shooting.
That ring, isnt coming of! half doas, other half doesnt, like it's glued! Now that ring have some straches and guaranteed has been lost. Oh well.. lets wobble!
I think nail varnish is the best rather than glue, put few nail varnish on the screw (by the neck) b4 u tightened it, it do the job and easy to loosen in the future needed.
It fixes but some of the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8, the small tip of the ring (that you opens up and locks back) would easily break down ... and its very fragile ... (I break it on my Canon mount :/ while my Sony mount is fine)
i just wanna ask if someone can tell me how to remove the dirt inside the lens... can i open the front part of the lens coz is inside in front part ....
Your tool handling is very dangerous, you can scoop that hard steel tip across the lens element. Put your index finger on top of the screwdriver to prevent wobble and access the handle's rotating function; your thumb and middle finger should be lower on the shaft toward the steep tip. You're holding this tool like a full-sized screwdriver! Otherwise a very informative video.
Hey, have the same problem recently, but I can only say - dont do this at home, spend some money and put the lens in official tamron service - same as I ve done. By front element loose U need to re-calibrate autofocus, what is impossible to make at home - trust me, it worth that money spended. And last advice - if U have loose front like this, stop using the lens, because 1st and 2nd elements can be damaged (they can crush each other) - thats what the serviceman said to me, so Im passing it on
I don't know how common this is. I can just say that after at least 2 years of pretty extensive (but always careful) use I haven't had this problem with my Tamron 17-50 2.8 on my Nikons.
I have found, that there is a ring below the screws. If You will try to to screw the screws harder, but cap still wobbles, then You should torate the ting, that is below the screwst to most higher point, then go with screws. Of course it will correct AF (afaik), so do it only, when Yours body allows lens AF correction.§

Haha, just glued everything together yesterday and today I find this solution by coinsidence... Oh well, glue works fine too. Wasn't planning on selling it anyway, it's a pretty good lens overall.
But I really believe that TAmron in UK has guaranteed warranty on this product in video for more than 3 years. Canon and Nikon lenses of the same focal length category of this Tamron lens under consideration have only 1 year warranty.
Loctite is not glue and the medium strength one can be undone and is not permanent (it's the blue thing you see in most screws thread, found in most electronic device)
@mmorenovera ..... medium strength loctite screw blue glue is ok for this application, you can be stiil able to loose that screws ... and off course - autofocus fine tuning isn't my everyday job ;)) ....
Loctite comes in different strengths. There are some that will never come out again, but if you use the right loctite, its meant to keep the threads tight, but allow a person to remove the screw or bolt if needed.
@mmorenovera HAHAHAHAAHA, rotating (moving up/down) that lens will not affect the autofocus. AF can't be tuned by moving any lens. Only by software upgrade.
Loctites may leave stains on the glass and plastics as they evaporate. I don't think it's safe to be used here. Anyway it's a good idea to apply other kinds of adhesive, maybe water based such as latex will do the job.
I also have a Tammy 17-50 and I'll try one if it got loosen some day.
That is true, in fact, the front lens can be rotated when these screws are loose. If your lens focus perfectly, just tightening the screws will not affect the focus provided you don't touch (or rotate) the glass. In my case, focusing was perfect before and after the fix. Most of the people that has done it themselves haven't had problems either (check the forums). Finally, if your lens has focusing problems or if you are unsure, you should definitively send it to Tamron (they take 4 wks though)
What the original poster failed to realize is that when these 3 screws are loose...the front lense can be rotated. Simply put your fingers on the glass and turn. You will not only rotate the lense but you will see that the lense moves in and out. This is how the factory calibrates focus.
You are better off sending this thing to the factory. I'm sending mine out tomorrow.
Fuck. I managed to break one of the three small plastic thingies off the front retaining ring. Will now spend the rest off the night being pissed off. :(

Do NOT put glue because those screws need to be loosen if you ever need to fine tune autofocus in the future.
