what you are doing is called "slithering" the movement you're doing by sliding the shears down your hair....im not even going to touch this is an awful technique...but if those shears arent professional and no i dont mean Sallys...you are damaging your hair.

its much easier to do it when your hair is dry.

my hair dresser always cuts the majority of the length off while its wet, then makes the layers when flat ironed. Seems to work out perfectly every time, I do it that way on my own hair too and its easier.
