Religion, or the lack of it, would not influence MY choice. However, as Rick performed on the definitive version, and the Angel Voices kids have come up with this, I can't help thinking that a melding of the two versions might be in order. Perhaps this time Rick might get the credit he deserves. (Cat Stevens "accidentally" forgot to include him on the credits of the original single, whereupon Rick refused to perform it on Top of the Pops when it went to number 1 in the UK.
The only reason Cat Stevens' version did any good was the keyboard part performed by Rick Wakeman. Considering Rick is a devout Christian, he might be persuaded to play keyboards for Libera. That WOULD become the definitive version. Rick played this beautiful song during his "Piano Tour" a few years ago, and also told the story of how his performance was "forgotten" by the record company.
regardless of religion, politics, or anything else- this is a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song!
