Modern bands should listen to it every day so that they could have a true idea of what rock is & music on the whole....& unless they see their real place in it & maybe after that they'll to make something worthy.
I've still got the albums somewhere -- gotta' dig them out and dust them off. They were masters of mystic rock. Saw them several times in concert and they rocked!
I'm 60 and a total music freak. These guys were so beyond everyone else back in the day. I saw this line-up a few times. Totally killer and the best part is, the Heep name continues and they're still worth listening too. (USA)
This, along with "Deep Purples", Child in Time were the two epics for me from that era. I would leave earth without leaving my room. Oh to be fifteen again.
Simply superb, especially the guitar and Drum section which Mick Box and Lee Kerslake improvised after a massive drinking session in one take after being unable to complete while sober !This is my all time greatest s guitar solo which still gives me goosebumps after nearly 40 years. Mick Box is probably the most underrated axe man ever !
I'm 57 years old, and I remember sitting in the garage listening to this cranked up on the 'record player'. Good memories of good times...thanks for the flashback!
as far as i am concerned, uriah heep are up there with the best, led zep, deep purple, there is no comparison, david byron was a vocal extrodinaire, backing vocals are second to none, ken hensley should be proud of the songs he wrote, david just delivered them as they were meant to be. i love U.H, looking forward to seeing them in december at the brighton centre., luv to all, xxxxx
Hello, I am 15 and I like all kind of rock music from the late 60's and early seventies. So i must be cool in your eyes right? If not, did I also say that I hate Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and so on? Well, now that you know that, I MUST be cool in your eyes!
That was me being sarcastic.....I'm actually 22...
@Deisi666 when you are old enough to really appreciate this music i will write to you again, i am in my 50s and have been around long enough to hear all the greatest bands, you think you have heard the best, but my friend, you have a long way to go, listen to the monteray festival, especially janis joplin singing ball and chain, this is when music was at its best, good luck with your seek of what music is really all about. luv to all xxxx
@Deisi666 Now can you tell us why the music from the 60's and 70's was so awsome, while the music churned out today generally sucks ? Why does Justin Bieber suck ? Why does Lady Gaga suck ? When you can answer these, we may see you as cool.
I also had this album back in the early 70's, smoking stony sticky Colombian Red bud and doing mushrooms, what memories! I used to play this tune over and over, I am glad I was born in 1956, I got to listen and saw the BEST Bands of all times! They don't make music like this anymore, pure raw metal rock and some progressive experiences. Thank you for posting and bringing me back to those days.
to fsmetal: Fyeah, right?? I can't think of how I'm feelin' right now. Grew up on this shit when everyone else was into Beatles and Stones. Not dis'n 'em, but this was metal in the late 60's & earlier 70's. Heep, Sabbath, Nugent (Amboy Dukes), Mott the Hoople (remember? - thought you would !) I'm droolin'!!!
While listening to Beautiful Dream one evening my dear old mom said, "You listening to this sick music again?" Had to laugh. Mystic or sick, don't really mind which. :)
You just find yourself returning to them time after time, finding new gems again and again. Discovered 'Salisbury' last night. Love 'em all over again.
don't understand people needing drugs to listen to Heep, they are addictive, just a proper appreciation of good music is all that is needed, luv to mick, keep rockin, see you all in december. luv to all xxxx.....rip David and Gary. xxxxx
everything is great in this song, especially the duel between the drums/guitar after 7 min...amazing, the skill of musicians back then... awesome reggae bass at the end too
Memory city. Saw them a handful of times in Seattle in their heyday. Listen to the Orchid Orchestra play. They had a chemistry. Very heavy. Lots of harmony. Hensley was excellent. His solo album -- if you can find it -- is worth every penny. The Heep interested me when I was 17, and I keep going back to them for treats @ 55. Mick Box? Please. Who sounds like these guys? Very challenging stuff, even today. Words, music, harmonies, craftsmanship. Fun to play. Great to the ear.
one of the most kick-ass album covers of all time - wish I could get someone to airbrush the "wizard" charachter onto my car door - the song,of course, as most Heep songs are, is fantastic. RIP DB and GT, they dont write 'em like you did anymore...
1972, all of 16 and in a friends Trailer, tripping on windowpane, sucking down PBR's like water. Wow, what a memory. Glad to of survived that youthful time.
lukus you rock .. your wiser then most your age .. dont take it your responsablity to teach others just play it and they will chech on .. peace young man be well keep rocking in the true spirit
@MOTOMANIA354 I'm three years younger, but Heep did pack quite a wallop in those days. They almost reached Pink Floyd in my mind with the atmosphere. This album, along with Demons and Wizards and Sweet Freedom were Heep at their peak.
Just wow....I can not remember the last time I heard this song! My brother played this album a lot when we were growing up...GREAT memories!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
I was in 10th grade as well. It's great there are so many young kids today enjoying one of the best albums ever! I wonder if shaking your pc gives the same effect as shakin the album like an etch-o-sketch...
Uriah didn't refuse making great conception pieces like this. Another were July Morning, Salisbury, The Spell... Beside little gems like Rain or Sunrise in this album-
Dear follow Heepsters, I have finally come up for air. I've spent numerous days, weeks, now listening to this epic, until it is apart of my consciousness. That practice amp feel the Harry Heep gets from his guitar at 4:40, simple in its attack, that very simplicity is the genius. The quick snappy drums over this solo, and the curious key playing of Carl Heep. . the Production would make Ezrin envious. My journey is not over. I now will learn "Rainbow Demon". All hail Heep! And back inot it at 7m
First song I heard from this group and was hooked, bought this album and wore it out, was stationed in Germany at the time 74-75, seen them in concert in 76
Ah the 70's.....nothing like the music that came out of this decade. Record companies gave artists more freedom to make the music they wanted to create and AOR radio was king. Me and my pal Phillip cruising around in his 69 Mach 1 Mustang with Zeppelin, Purple, Heep, Sabbath, Nugent, Kiss, etc......playin on the 8 track and smokin doobies and enjoying life without a care in the world. Those days are long gone guys. I sure do miss em!
I saw these guys three times - in Pittsburgh - with Gary Thain. And they remain some of my favorite shows!! It might have been because the Civic Arena had enough pot smoke in it to get everybody stoned just by inhaling - but the music was incredible. One show the actually opened the roof - I think most of downtown went out of oreo cookies that night ;-)
one of the alltime epic songs? For some an epic...this might be THE most riducles song I've EVER heard. A friend sent it, as comedy. ThIs CAN"T be real. Brilliant.
@sevensecondsdeep i am not sayin that uriah heep wasnt above in techincality or those who wrote 'home sweet alabama' are as technicaly competent as uriah heep, but that i find similiar melody in the first riff of this song and in the uhm, main riff (is this right?) of sweet home alabama. it might not be carbon copy but it sounds very similiar to me.
For the people talking about 'the good old days' etc... I'm 24 and Uriah Heep has been my favourite band for years now. I don't think this music belongs to the past necessarily, I think it's timeless. Some modern music is influenced by these songs, yes, but the energy will stay forever in the originals. Of course there are some songs (rarely) that are unique and powerful these days, but Uriah Heep were in touch with something that can't be copied. Thank god they did what they did!!
@LukusDimitrius I agree, completely! music today just isn't the same. i'm 20 and uriah heep has been one of my favorites since I was young! I guess i can thank my parents for that. I'm seeing them tomorrow in concert, can't wait!
@LukusDimitrius You can really hear the influence that Uriah Heep have had on bands like Wolfmother. Amazing band, an amazing time it was to be a heavy metal lover and the best album covers came out of the seventies. Damn I miss those days.
@LukusDimitrius Alexandre Dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels exposing world tyranny(Roman Catholic Empire). Alexandre Dumas pere was born near Paris in 1802 and 'coincidentally' in 1902 The Society of Gesu(Jesuits) were expelled from France for the 3rd and last time. The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
@LukusDimitrius these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.
@LukusDimitrius 'It is my opinion that if the liberties of this country(USA) are destroyed, it will be by the subtlety of the Roman catholic Jesuit priests, for they are the most crafty, dangerous enemies to civil and religous liberty. They have instigated most of the wars of Europe.' Marquis de LaFayette
@LukusDimitrius MICHAEL TSARION IS THE WORLDS PREMIER CONSPIRACY RESEARCHER/LECTURER/AUTHOR. DR. BILL DEAGLE, LEO ZAGAMI, JORDAN MAXWELL AND ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE ARE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AS WELL. P.S. MELTING EUPHORIA IS SIMILAR TO OZRIC TENTACLES AND GONG.
@LukusDimitrius Love what you say and think you have outstanding taste, youre right Heep is timeless, what other rock band ever came out on 8 track and still making dvd's today(one)my all time favorite,Heep with David Byron,Gary Thain,Lee Kerslake,Mick Box and Ken Hensley
@LukusDimitrius Have we succeeded? We think so. Before long we shall have covered with our narratives an enormous period of time; between the "Comtesse de Salisbury' and the "Comte de Monte Christo" five centuries and a half are compresed. Well, we assert that we have taught France as much history about those five centuries and a half as any historian.
@LukusDimitrius 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
Great song. I'm not even from this era but I can appreciate the hell out of these guys. I see so many people saying music has changed for the worse since 'the 70's'. I don't completely agree. Radio has, but then again radio will never amuse me. The masses tend to be wrong, a lot. If you look into it, though, there are many crazy, talented bands hidden out there today. Nothing against Uriah Heep, but bands like BTBAM, Dog Fashion Disco, SikTH, Protest the Hero, are carrying the torch on.
Gary Thain's bass is unbelievable on this song. One of the best bass lines in prog rock ever. Especially from :53 - 1:27

Brilliant.
BSlash24 11 months ago
@BSlash24 What is 'riducles'? Are you trying to be funny?
noclouds111 11 months ago
@BSlash24 Tell me where you live so i can come and preform a magic blood ritual and make you pay for the blasphemous things you have said.
Yes this IS real, and YES! it is one of the all-time most epic songs ever.
Your friend sent it so he could laugh at YOU when you slammed it.

anyone notice any similarities with 'sweet home alabama' ? or is it just me?
89152019 1 year ago
@89152019 i think it's just you... this song and it's level of technical writing is miles and miles above Sweet Home Alabama...IMHO...
sevensecondsdeep 11 months ago

URIAH HEEP---"MAGICIAN'S BIRTHDAY"
www41WorldUSAcom 1 year ago
