  • Gary Thain's bass is unbelievable on this song. One of the best bass lines in prog rock ever. Especially from :53 - 1:27

  • I saw Uriah Heep in 1973 with two new unknown bands opening for them. Earth, Wind and Fire and ZZ Top.

  • @VladimirRocker they'll try

  • this whole album is a masterpiece

  • I've still got the albums somewhere -- gotta' dig them out and dust them off. They were masters of mystic rock. Saw them several times in concert and they rocked!

  • I've been listening to these dude's since the early 70's ain't no better mystifying sound than what they play.

  • Awesome this piece is a masterpiece of the progressive rock!! Uriah Heep Rules!!

  • One of the greatest guitar solos ever by the one and only Mick Box.

Come, let us listen and enjoy this ultimate greatness...you will be very appreciative that you did.

  • All the songs by the Heap are so unique ! Demons and Wizards is one of my favorite albums!

  • Gotta love the Heap. Started to listen to this and got goose bumps, only problem is I can't turn it up cause in at work.

  • Kick out the jams!

  • 7:08 to 7:19... let that note friggin ring..... 1

  • I'm 60 and a total music freak. These guys were so beyond everyone else back in the day. I saw this line-up a few times. Totally killer and the best part is, the Heep name continues and they're still worth listening too. (USA)

  • One of the best song endings ever...

  • you have to hear all their Music!!!

  • Tämä kappale, yleensä koko albumi, on kautta kokomaailman parasta musiikillista taidetta mitä ikinä on tehty

  • An impenetrable fortress of love....

  • This, along with "Deep Purples", Child in Time were the two epics for me from that era. I would leave earth without leaving my room. Oh to be fifteen again.

  • Awesome album.... & full length The Magicians Birthday... great post...

  • Nice!

  • In the magic garden some were singing some were dancing. :-)

  • Fuckety-Fuck-Fuck!!!!!! - I'd forgotten just how good that guitar solo was. Not heard it for over 20 years. Still sounds great to me.

  • Heep and acid. a match made in heaven. We love you Albert Hoffman!!!

  • brings back memories

  • the intro sound like rory gallagher's style...anyway...70's sound....uriah heep, always amazing and mysterious...

  • Simply superb, especially the guitar and Drum section which Mick Box and Lee Kerslake improvised after a massive drinking session in one take after being unable to complete while sober !This is my all time greatest s guitar solo which still gives me goosebumps after nearly 40 years. Mick Box is probably the most underrated axe man ever !

  • I'm 57 years old, and I remember sitting in the garage listening to this cranked up on the 'record player'. Good memories of good times...thanks for the flashback!

  • one of the best lp's of my youth

  • as far as i am concerned, uriah heep are up there with the best, led zep, deep purple, there is no comparison, david byron was a vocal extrodinaire, backing vocals are second to none, ken hensley should be proud of the songs he wrote, david just delivered them as they were meant to be. i love U.H, looking forward to seeing them in december at the brighton centre., luv to all, xxxxx

  • A goddamn Kazoo solo, these guys just kill me, Brilliant.

  • 5 people weren't invited to the Magician's Birthday.

  • Don't be warry , it is above all generations..... just listen & go to a magician

    world......

  • I love everything they've ever done...reunion tour? Just saw Priest...Rob is 107 years old now...c'mon Uriah Heep

Thin Lizzy opened up and there was only two original members...young kids rockin out...I paid 70 bucks...Heep would totally get my money

  • Hello, I am 15 and I like all kind of rock music from the late 60's and early seventies. So i must be cool in your eyes right? If not, did I also say that I hate Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, Chris Brown and so on? Well, now that you know that, I MUST be cool in your eyes!

That was me being sarcastic.....I'm actually 22...

  • @Deisi666 when you are old enough to really appreciate this music i will write to you again, i am in my 50s and have been around long enough to hear all the greatest bands, you think you have heard the best, but my friend, you have a long way to go, listen to the monteray festival, especially janis joplin singing ball and chain, this is when music was at its best, good luck with your seek of what music is really all about. luv to all xxxx

  • @Deisi666 You must be one of the 6 people that disliked this, are you not?

  • @Deisi666 Now can you tell us why the music from the 60's and 70's was so awsome, while the music churned out today generally sucks ? Why does Justin Bieber suck ? Why does Lady Gaga suck ? When you can answer these, we may see you as cool.

  • how I love this song...

  • I`ve been loving the Heep since I was 11 .

  • I fucking love it!

  • LOVE YOUTUBE - I recap so many awesome memories - Uriah Heep to me will aways rock on!!!!!

  • I still have this album. So much easier to do pc than stero

  • I also had this album back in the early 70's, smoking stony sticky Colombian Red bud and doing mushrooms, what memories! I used to play this tune over and over, I am glad I was born in 1956, I got to listen and saw the BEST Bands of all times! They don't make music like this anymore, pure raw metal rock and some progressive experiences. Thank you for posting and bringing me back to those days.

  • @stomp919 Pot doesn't do shit to you

  • to fsmetal: Fyeah, right?? I can't think of how I'm feelin' right now. Grew up on this shit when everyone else was into Beatles and Stones. Not dis'n 'em, but this was metal in the late 60's & earlier 70's. Heep, Sabbath, Nugent (Amboy Dukes), Mott the Hoople (remember? - thought you would !) I'm droolin'!!!

  • more 2 come he he he ha ha ha ha

  • Still a great tune

  • lol thats awesome... Listen with my dad's old LP ahah...

  • This song has a strange sadness to it amongst other emotions. Heep was always good at that with their songs.

  • I'm not a magician and it's not birthday but i love this song.

  • Thanks Heep. Another year down for me :)

  • I CHALLENGE YOU! I CHALLENGE YOU ALL! Fuck yes. So good. So few bands can make music this good, and fewer modern bands.

  • whats gooooing oo on! :D Rory inspired them :)

  • LOVE THIS! Just shared on a friend's wall for his birthday -- he IS a magician :)

  • loved them then, love them now.

  • Whoa... Did I just take an acid trip?

  • @shygirl241553 They did it for you lol

  • The best and greatest Bassman ever, Gary Thain, may you rest in Peace. I am still wondering how a four string can be played.

  • Uriah Motherfuckin Heap. If there was a genre called Mystic Rock they'd be the pioneers.

  • @santanaincubus

    Absolutely.

While listening to Beautiful Dream one evening my dear old mom said, "You listening to this sick music again?" Had to laugh. Mystic or sick, don't really mind which. :)

  • @bigmagic96 Yea man some people just dont get the music. Anyways man, Uriah Heap rules!

  • @santanaincubus

You just find yourself returning to them time after time, finding new gems again and again. Discovered 'Salisbury' last night. Love 'em all over again.

  • @santanaincubus

    now there is :)

  • @martotull Awesome! :)

  • this song kicks ass

  • don't understand people needing drugs to listen to Heep, they are addictive, just a proper appreciation of good music is all that is needed, luv to mick, keep rockin, see you all in december. luv to all xxxx.....rip David and Gary. xxxxx

  • Amazing musical skill, they were so under rated. They knew how to tell a story in a 7 minute song! Most bands were a minute and a half at best.

  • everything is great in this song, especially the duel between the drums/guitar after 7 min...amazing, the skill of musicians back then... awesome reggae bass at the end too

  • Just beautiful..

  • Memory city. Saw them a handful of times in Seattle in their heyday. Listen to the Orchid Orchestra play. They had a chemistry. Very heavy. Lots of harmony. Hensley was excellent. His solo album -- if you can find it -- is worth every penny. The Heep interested me when I was 17, and I keep going back to them for treats @ 55. Mick Box? Please. Who sounds like these guys? Very challenging stuff, even today. Words, music, harmonies, craftsmanship. Fun to play. Great to the ear.

  • @freethinktherefore I am 57 and my thoughts mirror yours. they were an awesome band. did not get the credit they deserved.

  • An impenetrable fortress of looooooooooooooooove!!!!

  • A few years ago, Jack Black (w/ Tenacious D) did a sketch on SNL where they introduced "the new birthday song". I immediately thought of this.

  • i believe it do you?

  • man i used to beat my pencils to death in school jammin this tune in my head

  • @lukusdimitrius right on man

  • Hard not to be 15 in 1972 again... this was the best, even on cassettes. Love 'em!

  • one of the most kick-ass album covers of all time - wish I could get someone to airbrush the "wizard" charachter onto my car door - the song,of course, as most Heep songs are, is fantastic. RIP DB and GT, they dont write 'em like you did anymore...

  • I'm proud to be one of the few teenagers that listens to music like this....

  • 1972, all of 16 and in a friends Trailer, tripping on windowpane, sucking down PBR's like water. Wow, what a memory. Glad to of survived that youthful time.

  • lukus you rock .. your wiser then most your age .. dont take it your responsablity to teach others just play it and they will chech on .. peace young man be well keep rocking in the true spirit

  • Mick Box and his cry baby wah wah pedal, a match made in heaven!!!!

  • I still have a copy of this album on vinyl. Scratched and pitted, it still sounds better than most of the crap being served up today!

  • Micky Box drums - superbbbbbbb!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome!

  • Today is my birthday, and I dedicate this song to myself! :D Ahaha

    Go Uriah Heep!

  • no, this song just ended, it should never end, oh well, i'll just listen to it again

  • I'm 57 now and I STILL LOVE THIS TUNE. Yea I had the album. Thanx to You Tube for bringin back great old memories

  • @MOTOMANIA354 ..........My name is Chuck and wanted to reply to your thread....I still have this album ,LOL

  • @ixichuck2 my name is chuck and most played cd is uriah heeps greatest hits

  • @MOTOMANIA354 I'm three years younger, but Heep did pack quite a wallop in those days. They almost reached Pink Floyd in my mind with the atmosphere. This album, along with Demons and Wizards and Sweet Freedom were Heep at their peak.

  • Awesome, awesome song. But just why, why does the keyboard solo need to be that long?

Actually, you could say that about any of their songs. But the thing is, you can forgive them because their music is just so damn good.

  • ahh LSD .. How I miss it and all those brain cells I used to have. FANTASTIC

  • someone once said "if this band makes it i'll commit suicide",they did-he didn't.

  • Love can fly ...love can fly.... (music)

  • Damn after going through my it's records I gotta say, where the hell is music going? I hope there will always be people living that enjoy this. :)

  • Just wow....I can not remember the last time I heard this song! My brother played this album a lot when we were growing up...GREAT memories!!!! Thank you for sharing!!

  • I was in 10th grade as well. It's great there are so many young kids today enjoying one of the best albums ever! I wonder if shaking your pc gives the same effect as shakin the album like an etch-o-sketch...

  • loistava kappale

  • Uriah Heep without Mick Box is like a car without wheels.

  • One of the best progressive metal bands ever!!

  • Uriah didn't refuse making great conception pieces like this. Another were July Morning, Salisbury, The Spell... Beside little gems like Rain or Sunrise in this album-

  • I was a big fan in 1974. Listening now I understand where the seed for Spinal Tap was sown. And Steve Tyler thinks it was all about him!

  • 03:51 This was the part when I had to put the joint out.

  • there is no thanking dog .dog does not exsist please do not mention dog and the magician birthday again

  • @666lineman • 666 reaps what it sows

  • yusssssssss

  • I was In high school when this came out. This album and myself are now old but we still have got it! It just don't get any better!

  • this is traditional, enjoy!

  • Mick Box absolutely shredded this track up to freakin bits of incredible heavy, distorted, flavorful, tartness, and sweetness all at the same time.

  • I love Uriah Heep. Can't wait for the new album!!!!

  • Dear follow Heepsters, I have finally come up for air. I've spent numerous days, weeks, now listening to this epic, until it is apart of my consciousness. That practice amp feel the Harry Heep gets from his guitar at 4:40, simple in its attack, that very simplicity is the genius. The quick snappy drums over this solo, and the curious key playing of Carl Heep. . the Production would make Ezrin envious. My journey is not over. I now will learn "Rainbow Demon". All hail Heep! And back inot it at 7m

  • My Friend & I went to Europe in 1971, We brought back a Uriah Heep album & it blew us all away.

  • 2 people were not invited

  • First song I heard from this group and was hooked, bought this album and wore it out, was stationed in Germany at the time 74-75, seen them in concert in 76

  • only heep could rock the kazoo!

  • This drum/guitar duet is intense. Why have I never heard of Uriah heep before I had YouTube??

  • @DiddyTheDuck2 sheltered life i guess, been listening to this since since i was 14. i am 43, today is my birthday and i am a magician.

  • @zendishwasher2 happy birthday :)

Well another reason could be because I am15 years old...

  • @DiddyTheDuck2 then your in good company, check out sunrise if you haven't already!

  • hey, while I don't go for being threatened, I gotta respect your passion for Heep. Good luck. Happy B Day Magician, and the Wizard!

  • this is an illusion can you see?all that you think,is created, welcome to world of tech

  • this is an illusion can you see?

  • Ah the 70's.....nothing like the music that came out of this decade. Record companies gave artists more freedom to make the music they wanted to create and AOR radio was king. Me and my pal Phillip cruising around in his 69 Mach 1 Mustang with Zeppelin, Purple, Heep, Sabbath, Nugent, Kiss, etc......playin on the 8 track and smokin doobies and enjoying life without a care in the world. Those days are long gone guys. I sure do miss em!

  • @ledzep0620 Yes sir, those were the days!

  • I saw these guys three times - in Pittsburgh - with Gary Thain. And they remain some of my favorite shows!! It might have been because the Civic Arena had enough pot smoke in it to get everybody stoned just by inhaling - but the music was incredible. One show the actually opened the roof - I think most of downtown went out of oreo cookies that night ;-)

  • @jimmyc1955 Did rush open one of those shows?

  • one of the alltime epic songs? For some an epic...this might be THE most riducles song I've EVER heard. A friend sent it, as comedy. ThIs CAN"T be real. Brilliant.

  • @BSlash24 What is 'riducles'? Are you trying to be funny?

  • @BSlash24 Tell me where you live so i can come and preform a magic blood ritual and make you pay for the blasphemous things you have said.

Yes this IS real, and YES! it is one of the all-time most epic songs ever.

Your friend sent it so he could laugh at YOU when you slammed it.

  • God Willed these composers. Gods will Be Done

  • Thank you for this. It brought a tonload of memories back. ***kisses***

  • this album live n studio dems n wizards rip me apart

  • One of the all time epic songs! Simply put: URIAH HEEP!

  • anyone notice any similarities with 'sweet home alabama' ? or is it just me?

  • @89152019 i think it's just you... this song and it's level of technical writing is miles and miles above Sweet Home Alabama...IMHO...

  • @sevensecondsdeep i am not sayin that uriah heep wasnt above in techincality or those who wrote 'home sweet alabama' are as technicaly competent as uriah heep, but that i find similiar melody in the first riff of this song and in the uhm, main riff (is this right?) of sweet home alabama. it might not be carbon copy but it sounds very similiar to me.

  • @89152019 ..Yep.. definitely!

  • @89152019

uhhh just so u know uriah heep rocks, and this came out wayy before that hillbilly sweet home alabama song

  • Classic Album.. :)

  • borg likes uriah heep, did squid n listen to 15 albums of heep, cool trip n i will never be the same again

  • I wanna go to the magician's birthday too :(

  • saw them i 73 when i was a mere 17

  • For the people talking about 'the good old days' etc... I'm 24 and Uriah Heep has been my favourite band for years now. I don't think this music belongs to the past necessarily, I think it's timeless. Some modern music is influenced by these songs, yes, but the energy will stay forever in the originals. Of course there are some songs (rarely) that are unique and powerful these days, but Uriah Heep were in touch with something that can't be copied. Thank god they did what they did!!

  • @LukusDimitrius I was In high school when this came out. This album and myself are now old but we still have got it! It just don't get any better!

  • @hillbilly9211 me too 9th or 10th grade i think lol

  • Comment removed

  • @LukusDimitrius I agree, completely! music today just isn't the same. i'm 20 and uriah heep has been one of my favorites since I was young! I guess i can thank my parents for that. I'm seeing them tomorrow in concert, can't wait!

  • @LukusDimitrius You can really hear the influence that Uriah Heep have had on bands like Wolfmother. Amazing band, an amazing time it was to be a heavy metal lover and the best album covers came out of the seventies. Damn I miss those days.

  • @LukusDimitrius these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.

  • @LukusDimitrius Love what you say and think you have outstanding taste, youre right Heep is timeless, what other rock band ever came out on 8 track and still making dvd's today(one)my all time favorite,Heep with David Byron,Gary Thain,Lee Kerslake,Mick Box and Ken Hensley

  • URIAH HEEP---"MAGICIAN'S BIRTHDAY"

  • Great song. I'm not even from this era but I can appreciate the hell out of these guys. I see so many people saying music has changed for the worse since 'the 70's'. I don't completely agree. Radio has, but then again radio will never amuse me. The masses tend to be wrong, a lot. If you look into it, though, there are many crazy, talented bands hidden out there today. Nothing against Uriah Heep, but bands like BTBAM, Dog Fashion Disco, SikTH, Protest the Hero, are carrying the torch on.

  • I got this 8 track in my room. I bought it at a Goodwill, just had to have it even though I can't play it.

  • The times where there still was magic in music. The drums bridge to solo! Lovely stuff.

  • I love Uriah Heep........the best music of 70's Nice remind

  • awsome solo
