I'm 17 years old and King's X is definitely my favorite band. you know its sad when people in school ask me what i'm listening to and i reply with King's X they say 'never heard of them, they probably suck.' fuckin kids need to wake up and listen to real music. King's X rocks
@gabeknight13 True that man, Its sad to see kids nowadays idolising stupid fuckheads like Kanye West, when King's X is everything that music should be. Their music is timeless dude, so just remember that your way smarter for getting into stuff like King's X rather than the total guff of todays mainstream.
The musical "Crime of the Century" right here folks. The fact that these guys' aren't automatically on the tip of everybody's tongue when mentioning any grouping of rock-n-roll's best. Especially measured against other trios. As much as I love bands like Rush and Cream, these guys eat them for lunch. Spend an afternoon listening to King's X and then try to figure out why it's "King's who?" while bands like Metallica and Guns-n-Roses went on to (wildly over-rated IMO) greatness.
@teerexness ....it is a shame they didn`t get the recognition they deserved. I liked them a lot, obviously a lot more people didn`t. Thats life I suppose, but to say they were better than Rush and Metallica is a bit naive, but you are entitled to you opinion.
@coltsuperocean10 if you can call someone who's played guitar professionally for 35 years and a serious rock fan for even longer naive, I guess that's cool. It's like still getting carded trying to buy beer. I think King's X would have been a much bigger deal with more exposure and a music business that wasn't already in a downward spiral hell bent for destroying itself. If they'd have debuted about a decade earlier, whole different story IMO.
@teerexness ...it doesnt matter how long you have been a rock fan or a guitarist, your comment was still a little naive. Nothing personal. I have been into Kings X for 20 years or more. Some bands get the breaks and some don`t. Music is a fickle business unfortunately.
@coltsuperocean10, someone who can play most of the songs by most of the bands mentioned, versus someone who has listened to a band for 20 years? I've created, written and played on entire CDs. I've built recording studios. I've played live and on Memorex. I'm currently working as a water plant operator for the union wages and health insurance for my family. Naive probably isn't the word. Nothing personal. Musicians do hear and perceive music differently, I'll give you that.
@teerexness Totally agree with every single word you said man. I discovered King's X a few years ago, and after listening to every album over and over, and hearing about how long they've been in the game, and how many huge artists they've inspired over all these years it is ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL that King's X aren't as big as bands like Metallica. The best, most talented, grooviest, funkiest, heaviest trio that has ever existed. Long live King's X!!
Hearing them play this tune after so many years makes me love what amazing musicians they truly are. If you can play a tune and make it sound better and more powerful 20 years later, you are a freakin' musical legend. You are a true musician. The timing of their phrasing and the tone... wow...
I bet every grunge/blues/stoner band over the last 30 years that became bigger than King's X have been influenced by them in big ways! King's X are the most underrated band on the planet. Long live King's X!!!!
"gretchen goes to nebraska" was my favourite album, when i was 16 years old - and all my friends hated it, cause it sounded so ... strange and different back then. now it's just the fantastic and timeless rock-music i always thought it was.
I agree! I saw these guys 3 times and because they are a positive force and believe in a higher power, they were ignored by many people. They are great live and each concert had a surprise...I miss them!
Ty Tabor, the king of tone!..So much feeling in his playing. I dont think Ive ever seen a 3 piece band sound as good as these guys. Vocal harmonies off the chart!
Are you speaking for all Americans? King's X fans are rabid, no matter where they are. Your statement was backwards because they are HIGHLY respected by those who know them. The so-called "music industry" may not acknowledge them in the grand scheme of things, but their fans and their fellow musicians know better, and I'm not aware of anyone who knows them who isn't a fan. It's got nothing to do with territory.
i know they are respected i love them but in Sweden people worship them. That's where I'm from respect that. in America maybe 2,000 people show up in Sweden 100,000 people show up. i have been to more than my share of concerts by them. traveled across US for them...
You said they were "non respected", which is what I originally took issue with. Now you're acknowledging that they ARE respected. Walking backwards again, love? ;-)
Your dedication is impressive, but try telling Dug that it matters what nationality you are. I think we both know how he would feel about that, don't we?
when i say not respected i mean they have been a band for over 20 years but not abducted into the rock and roll hall of fame or acknowledged as one of the to 50 bands of all time. that's what im talking about...
well i am black and Swedish so we had allot to talk about... this is what i mean about Americans... they think only black people live in America we are everywhere... Black people are embraced and loved in Sweden not in America. Only if they rap or sing the blues or are gangstas I love rock live for rock In America maybe there was 2 or 3 black people in a crowd. Allot of black people love rock and metal like i do. but in America they say we want to be white.
just so you know i am the biggest fan of King's x seen them in concert 52 times met every member of the band recorded covers of them... your wrong on that.
good bands not getting the recognition they deserve seems to be the trend around here in houston. helstar, d.r.i., these guys and countless others. the heavier music scene suffers greatly due to the fact that houston is a rap capital, i gotta get out of this place!
