why does it matter if a drummer uses triggers? i'm pretty sure almost all DM drummers use triggers. and i hate to break it to you, but
kollias uses em too, bud. it doesnt make drumming any easier,
all they do is make your drums sound more clear. whats so bad about that?
and as for despised icon's drummer, he plays more technical shit thatn most drummers out there. if you disagree, listen to any song off their new album, and attempt to play it.
@Nilephan666 Kollias triggers the kicks out of necessity. He continues to bash the shit out of them and plays them properly, yes, but you would hear a low rumble when he got up to his higher speeds. More facts, less putting Kollias on some silly pedestal please.
As for Pelletier, as far as I'm concerned, he's the best of a bad bunch of deathcore players, but he has an uncanny ability to truly lock in with the riffing. Saying he just mindlessly blasts away is idiotic.
Putting him on some silly pedestal? Man, i'm not trying to do that, he does it himself, if beings we were talking about comparing him to any and all -core drummers. And Pelletier, if you'll watch his Blastology video, and go to the part that everyone in the comments are all like "OH I LOVE ___(don't remember the time)" you can plainly see him tapping, not drumming.
@webbtje First, if Kollias hadn't triggerd his kicks, you couldn't hear them properly at high speeds.... Second, he is worth putting on a pedestal, because behind the mask of skank beats and blastbeats there is a very technical jazz drummer who did nothing but speeding and spicing things up a bit. He says that if one wants to play death metal, he must listen to rock first, and slowly learn.
@kolliasmalmsteenown even so, the video proves that they don't have to sound like weak ass clicks to be clear, and I can understand why he would trigger them, seeing as over the last 2 years I've probably gone through well over 100 hours of trial and error and swearing and stupid felt and duct tape structures to get my drums to sound half decent(still working on fine tuning them)
@nailedurmum01 yeah, I found that out, but in the nile bootleg from NYC on 1-18-10, you can't really hear the triggers and the drums are definitely clear enough to hear with decent speakers in most of the songs, particularly execration text, though it would probably be easier for the rest of the band to play along if they heard the triggers in their monitors
This cold funeral - Revel inside My cold funeral - Vanishing light Conceive the ending Conceive the potential of nothingness Everything's said and everything's wasted It's like a virus, can you feel this? Everything's been incinerated It's something absent, you can't kill this Everything tastes like desparate dreaming You're left outside a frame that's bleeding Everything's more than anything counted You're shallow inside to conceive it
0:17 seconds into the song and I knew this band was gonna be awesome

This is triggered, this is not... again with this kids?
Every metal band (ok 85% nowadays) trigger its sound. period.
It doesn´t mean that seems natural or not... There´s a lot of ways to trigger your drum.
Even that ones you see being recorded with microphones, most of times are triggered by drumagog on the mix.

anyone who thinks despised icon's drummer sucks must not know a damn thing about drums.
that guy is fucking crazy behind a kit.
your opinion on the band itself is besides the point.

@belchingdonkeyy
Agreed. I don't like the deathcore genre or Despised Icon, but they have an amazing drummer, i'll give them that.
JavonteR 1 year ago
@belchingdonkeyy
Why? Because he can play double bass fast and blast beat like any other typical death core drummer?
He has no technicality in his drumming, and definitely zero versatility, he also triggers his shit, which makes him sound better.
George Kollias, on the other hand, doesn't trigger anything, he just mic's it all, and not to mention he has a shit ton of versatility.

i highly doubt you can.

@belchingdonkeyy
Oh i'm sure i can't, i don't play drums much these days.
But i'm sorry to tell you, George doesn't trigger anything, it's just mic'd, there's a difference.
And triggers do more then make each hit sound the same, it makes it so you can be lazier and hit with less power.
Trust me dude, i studied many drummers when it used to be my obsession, he, being the DI drummer, is just like any other drummer, he's no George.

@Naaga88 You're totally right. NO MATTER how hard you can hit the drums it's not clear once you reached a certain speed. So you have to trigger it.

@kolliasmalmsteenown watch george kollias: from 200-280bpm, his drums are not triggered and you can here them just fine

As I watch the darkest pages of what seems
to be the so-called diary of my mind's reflections,
the only relief is I'm turning breathless
to walk by the seashore of self-rejection.
This cold funeral - Revel inside
My cold funeral - Vanishing light
Sudden loss of something I never owned,
but still consider it as one of my personal belongings,
obliged to welcome the strange guest I've always disliked
in this feast of illusions.

Everything's said and wasted

It's like a virus, it's something abscent
You're shallow inside to conceive it
