Yeah, don't see how anybody would be thinking let go when you are diving off the front of the horse. Bridles are meant to breakaway during accidents so the horse is unharmed.

Your supposed to let go of the reins? I NEVER Let go! I'm too scared that the horse is gonna get away.. Esp on cross country. I had a horse that got away once and we couldnt find him for about a week and he had tack and everything on him.

ouch!! i am so glad that was not me: for the horse's sake bc i probly would not of let go of the reins. My first fall i hit the fence and slit my ear lobe open...i heard in the mist of my fall the trainer saying: let go of the reins let go of the reins. I was so shaken that i had fallen it took me forever to calculate what she was saying...buut i finally let go. and got 12 stiches but hey... that was 3 years ago

Who the hell would care about holding onto the reins? I have fallen off of horse and all I think is to keep hold of those reins- some horses will dart. Gosh I've had horses run up very very steep hills where it's hard to reach them, and of course the time I had to walk home from a 3 hour trail when the horse ran back to the barn. With my current horses I don't feel the need to cling, but doesn't mean it's wrong. It's safety, really.

Anyhow! AMAZING FALL! Quite acrobatic haha

lol. Poor horse was so disorientated, I just have a less severe fall that was similar. Bad approach, bell boot falling, horse stopped I went, and swan dived into the ground clearing the fence and pulling the bridle off. My horse just stood there like "WTF? How'd you get down there?"

Professional rides usually alwyas hold onto the reins, cause they don't want their horse bolting.
