  • The thing that is better about real paper books is, you can keep them forever, loan them to others and when you don't want them any more you can give away, sell them, donate, or recycle them. But the best thing: No batteries to worry about, ever.

  • does it have app store or any games?

  • The comments are for lending books to friends

  • @pmoyer50 u archive them

  • Contacts are used for lending books to friends xD

  • The Nook came with some preloaded books. There is also a free section at the bn site. If you shop the book section on the barnes and noble site you can get an idea of what they cost. Another huge advantage to an e reader is the space it saves. You can keep thousands of books in one little device.

  • Is it worth it to get an eReader? I mean are the ebooks cheaper than paper books? What are the real pros?

  • @oOMusicFishOo ebooks are cheaper than paper books (only by a small percent, usually, thought) but the prices are rising. some pros would be that you could store your whole library in a light weight 'reader'. it is also easier and faster to read books because you can purchase/download any book (in the barnes and noble collection) you wanted to in about a minute. some cons would be the starting price would be about $125 and-if you damage your nook, poof, all your books are gone. (unless you

  • @oOMusicFishOo back them up on your computer). another con would be (for some people) that it still doesn't have that 'natural' book feel where you can turn the pages and be...papery...and stuff. lol. i would go into more detail but the character limit is annoying me xD

  • @cyclonzgirl Thanks ;D

  • After doing tons of research, and trying out both the Nook and Kindle, I have sided with the Nook. The technology is superior, and it doesn't break as easy, I can't wait to buy it!

  • the 6 people that disliked this must have been the makers of kindle .

  • the contax are for sharing books with your friends on your nook you will find lend a book on it and thats what the contacts are for

  • Yes The Lost Symbol FTW!

  • Can anybody tell me is this worth buying?

  • @thebest852 it is

  • @thebest852 the nook is worth buyimg it has a great battery life it looks like a book you can download more than 1500 books and also you can buy cool upgrades for it

  • Finally a review where I can HEAR the review! thank you for not whispering!

  • Hey, so I live in Bermuda, but I want a nook, I have an American adress and American credit card, will i able to buy books in Bermuda with my adress and card?

  • @NStampy I see no reason why you couldn't, but just to be safe, I'd contact B&N customer service just to be sure.

  • buying my mom one for Christmas!

  • @RockStarTripleT Me too!

  • a question i have is, do they have a free book page where every week one day a week they have books that are for free, kinda like itunes with their free song every tuesday?

  • @firstclasscotastrafy theres always new free books coming in i have one its cool

  • Looks kind of difficult to use... the controls doesn't look intuitive enough. Definitively not for my granny...

  • @aortizc82 well my 60 year old mother can use it just fine. no problem. lol

  • the contacts section is for the "Lend Me" feature i believe.

  • Does the USB wall connecting thing work with iPods? Just want to know since I'm getting one soon (;

  • i like my nook its so much better than the

kindle because the nook has more features

  • @MultiOliver5 The nook is pretty nice, one downside is the battery life. I get 2-4 days tops when reading every day. Kindle lasts a few weeks or something.

  • Better to have something difficult to take off. Least itj didn't fall out onto the floor.

  • I just got the nook. Its great, i love it!

  • Have you tried the Pandigital Novel? It runs on Android, full color LCD running on the B&N network for downloading books, and many other options. I recommend checking it out.

  • What about the iPad iBooks is that better then an ereader?

  • Im surprised how shit these ebook readers are, you would never image you would have performance problems with an ebook reader ontop of that they are all ugly and then to boot they cant get the interface right for the simple task of reading..............

  • thanks for the review....

  • Damn your ringing phone at 1:03, I just went across my room thinking I'd gotten a message.

  • what is better about i nook than the kindle i just need a reason to choose either one lol i cant decide

  • @jesusfreak2123 nook

  • Can someone help me? I don't know which ereader is better. Nook or kindle. some please help

  • did you know you can slide the color touch display at the bottom. slide it to your left to reveal games mp3 ect

  • Thank you for a wonderful job at explaining the various features on the Nook. I just purchased a Nook and I am trying to negotiate around all the different functions. Your video presentation has helped me very much. Thank you.

  • How much are books?

  • Thanks. This answered so many questions. It would have taken me a long time to stumble on the dictionary feature. Now on my second day of owning the nook i can fully enjoy it.

  • I love my Nook. My only complaints are the battery life and the page turn button location. I get about 3-5 days battery life reading everyday, usually about an 1 1/2 hours. I've heard the Kindle last much longer, up to a week. For the page turn buttons- I find my thumb naturally rests on the page back button, holding it so it rest on the page forward button is uncomfortable.

  • Vizplex makes the displays for at least the Nook and the Kindle, and some of the other e-readers out there, so they pretty much have the same display. Sony's touch display is diffrent b/c it's a touch screen itself, but I've looked at it and the contrast is lower = not as pleasant reading experience.

  • I just want to know if there is an automatic page turn feature on the nook. If there is, can you set the time before the page turns?

  • You can browse the web on the Nook as well in any area with WIFI or 3G.

  • a small question, I have a few ebook that i bought from Amazon, it work fine w the kindle but am juz wondering is there away to put it on the Nook? or other devices?

  • @alastiar72 No, and that is also a flaw of the kindle. Once you order an ebook from the kindle store you can only read it on your kindle. no tansporting it to your desktop, or phone, or other e-readers. Hopefully, that answered your question.

  • @prettigirl99 liar

  • @alastiar72 No, and that is one of the flaws of the kindle. You see, once you order an ebook onto your kindle from the kindle store you can only read it on your kindle. No transporting it to your desktop, or phone, or another e-reader you may have and you can't lend a book to a friend for two weeks, for free with the kindle, but you can with the nook. Hopefully that answered your question.

  • @prettigirl99 mmm am pretty sure u can transfer book u purchase from Amazon to ur destop and on other devices too like Ipod and stuff.

  • @prettigirl99 That is complete bullshit, I have my kindle books on my phone, my ipad, and my computer.

  • @alastiar72 You can put it on any apple product, like the ipad or the phone, or any computer

  • Can you load non drm pdf?

  • This is a pretty good review!!

  • Stop complaining about the packaging. You deal with it once.

  • whats better a kindle or a nook

  • @twinprinces From my personal preferance, i believe the nook is better. More reasonably priced, more features, web browser, games, and many many more.

  • I've been thinking about a ebook reader. I heard the Kindle changes pages a little faster.

  • @ngvgnDOTcom IT oh wow, the kindle changes pages just a little faster, big woop!!

  • I work at Barnes and Noble and sadly, don't make enough money to buy one. However I am required to sell them. And thus we are tested to see if we are competent to buy a device we can't even afford to buy. But I thank you for this fantastic and very indepth review. Thanks to you I will pass the test and keep my job...still won't be able to afford a nook. But at least I'll still be employed. Thanks!

  • @Kviveka Yours is probably the most poignant comment of all. I think you should make a video review that points out how Barnes and Noble employees don't earn enough to buy a Nook reader. This reminds me of the people who harvest chocolate in third world countries in poor conditions for almost no wages and have never tasted a bar of chocolate in their lives. Scandalous, really. You can get more info on that in the BBC report: 'Chocolate The Bitter Truth' on YouTube.

  • i have uni text files i wanna read, i can wack them on the nook and read them?

  • The contact feature is for the Lend feature, it allows you to send a book to whomever has a nook, iPhone/iPod Touch, it will send the book to them and they can keep it for 14 days, I haven't used it yet so I don't know if it sends the other user a copy of the book, or your book. Nice review, I can't wait to get my Nook, I've used the Kindle and I wasn't very fond of how long it took for the screen to refresh, the Nook looks faster.

  • can you upload music from itunes? or what if you put cds into your computer and downlosd them?

  • yea the nook is compatible with over 100 devices. so if u have itunes on a pc or mac it will work with it. You can also sync your ebooks to itunes and download them on ur ipod, itouch, iphone, etc. if the cds are in itunes or anywhere else you can put them in2. it also can hold pictures.

  • i think it is too slow

  • since they did a firmware update it is much faster

  • i heard that more nooks will be available in store...is this true? i might be getting mine either sunday or maybe even tomorrow! so excited!!!!

  • yeah they are i saw one recently. they also had one out that you could play with.

  • contacts are for lending books.

  • can you ONLY buy the ebooks from barnes and nobles store with a credit card? or can you buy a barnes and noble giftcard and use that?

  • im sure you can use a gift card i dont see a reason they wouldn't let you.

  • i think i'll stick with the ipad

  • i like this device cause it's smaller than the ipad. I have a laptop already and don't need something else as equally bulky

  • great review...agreed with4everthor :)

  • can you upload music from itunes?

  • Does wifi cost money when you're not at Barnes and Noble? and does it cost money to look for books to buy (just look) using the nook??Thanks

  • @PanicRox11 No to both questions

  • thanks

  • Thanks for your review. The best review I have seen. Waiting for my Nook to come in the mail now.

  • @4everthor Was that Nook really worth the money? I'm broke broke broke and I'm considering buying one.

  • The flicker between pages is god awful and irritating. Who designed these things? Some 2 bit drop out from industrial design and programing school. I think it is a mess.

I'm not an applefan boy but man give me the max-ipad to read over these two any day.

On second thought, I'd just rather buy a real paper book.

  • Wow the packaging!!! awesome packaging!!!

  • How funny is it that people have posted flaming comments with improper spelling on a video aimed at people who read a lot of books.

  • I think the contact bit is so you can share your books .....maybe!

  • ummm hello the nook didnt make that many and it sold alot so yeah i ordered mine in december and they got so many orders that i wont get mine till feb 18

  • Part of the benefit of eink is that it uses very little power; it will last 10 of thousands of page turns. Add an LCD display, 3g, wifi and you throw that benefit out the window.

  • the nook is way better than kindle period.

  • do u know if it can read to you.

  • @Billya1986 no it can not read to you like a kindle but it has many morer features then the kindle. When you think abouyt it, every piece of hardware or softwar has it's pros and cons. Hopefully this answered your question.

  • @prettigirl99 funny how you don't name these imaginary features, you won't mention them because the only thing the nook has is a useless one inch touchscreen that eats up battery life

  • @orsonzg why

  • This fight's useless but on B&N's part they made amazon realize they aren't the only ones in the game anymore. PDF support, mobile and pc ebook reader app were just two things that B&N started that amazon had to copy. As far as the amount sold, kindle has been the only real device besides sony's, so of course it would sell more, just give it time. Just leave it to a persons preference will ya? I admit it here and now the amazon kindle is better over all but I still want a nook over the kindle.

  • Thanks! Was trying to figure out how to use the dictionary. Can one add to the dictionary if one is purchased at the BN store? Great reader but limited selection of sciFi

  • @SuddenlyStandup2 i think so because on the video on the barnes and noble store when that girl looks through the screens you can see a dictionary

  • i love fights! but u r right TheBlakeful1 so im with u!

  • Can you load music to the nook from iTunes? And if so how?

  • @johnmonk66

    The Kindle's suck ass!

You dont even know what your talking about!

Nook's have been sold out since they first made them!

Ummm...how many people are buying Kindles??

And uhhhhh, how many poeple are buyinh Nooks??

Yeah, thats what i thought, people are buying Nooks WAAY more then Kindles.

So shut the fuck up, and leave hee alone!

  • hmmm..

Will the audio player read a book?

what im asking is, can you see a book page while the audio player reads it??

  • Thanks a lot for posting this video, I just ordered my nook a few days ago and ive been wondering about a few things, you cleared it all up for me

  • can i put my downloaded pdf files into nook and read it without any further problems?

  • @rlzrox

you can do that on a kindle

  • Of all eBook Reader Devices you have done a review on, which do you recremoned?

  • ya the nook is better with display, it doesnt hurt your eyes at all and its clear and u can change the font to be darker if you wish(i did and it took like 2 seconds) and the enitre font of the book was changed for the better.

  • do you need a sim card ?

  • No, a SIM card is already in the nook. You can use it with AT&T or else use the integrated WiFi radio to connect.

  • Since you have a nook and a kindle, which do you recommend? Does the nook have less glare than the kindle?

  • I find the nook eInk display to be better with bolder fonts and better background for more contrast. I can read my nook in very low light too.

  • I have compared both side-by-side and the nook and 505 display do look better than Kindle 2. Even Kindle 1 display is better than Kindle 2

  • @palmsolo Which Kindle 2 did you compare it with? The international wireless or the US wireless?

The display on the Kindle 2 international was changed slightly and has better contrast than the older Kindle 2.

  • lmao hahahahah ya like i said b4 whos product has been sold out since it arrived and it still getting pushed back cuz of all the orders they get cuz ppl keep demanding the nook..and the kindle is okay i guess but it hasnt sold out i think even once and its in stock so..??? idk i think that proves that the B&N has the better product

  • @prnces858 you retarded? the kindle was sold out for the first year it was sold too

  • shut up i said compared to the nook, ya sure it was fricken sold out cuz there was nothing to really have any competition with it besides shit from sony for the two years it was out and yes i know how long its been out cuz i researched both and watched videos on both b4 i made my choice.. and there was a lot more complaints of the both versions of the kindle and of course if B&N hadnt stepped into the market of ebook readers i wouldve bought the kindle too so shove off duche

  • @prnces858 you got a mouth like a whore kid

they sold ten times more kindles then nooks, nooks are crap

  • i only do when people get me P.O'd okay, you dont know me so forgive me if i get a little aggitated when people who dont even know what i look like call me a moron for my own opinion, anything i said to you or as in reference i said as my own opinion and i never said i KNEW anything i said i THINK, and if the nooks are crap why are they still sold out until February at the least? sure the kindle has kol features, i never said it didnt i said i think the nook is better, its my opinion get over it

  • "people who dont even know what i look like call me a moron for my own opinion"

    future paris hilton here

  • shup up duche bag go get a life

  • Comment removed

  • no, do you? like i said i get like that when i get pissed off, grow up everyone talks like that these days, its not "that" uncommon besides im not like that all the time matter of fact most of the time im not, only when i see or hear stupid things coming from ignorant asswholes

  • why do you care so much anyway?

  • @johnmonk66 They sold more kindles because the nook just came out :/ They have to be ordered in advance because they're in demand, they can't really sell any more than they are at a time.

So shut the fuck up, and leave her alone!

  • @TheBlakeful1 you are an idiot too, kindle outsold the nook 12 to 1 moron, in fact the number one electronic device sold on black friday and cyber monday was the kindle.

now go have sex with your kindle clone because you obviously love it

  • Ummmm...no you the idiot stupid ass!

The Nook has been SOLD OUT since it came out!

Thats why they can give them to you right away!

If you order one now, you wont get it till Feburary!

And, lets see, if you buy a Kindle, you will probably get it within the next week!

So shut the fuck up with your talking shit about the Nook!

  • wow you are really stupid, the 5000 nooks they made sold out while kindle sold 78700 kindles last month

  • Wow, ur the stupid one!

The Kindle has been out LONGER then the Nook!

So the Nook, will sell WAY more, then the Kindle!

  • @TheBlakeful1

no retatd, the kindle sold 500,000 units in the first month, the nook has sold less than 10,000, that is 50 times less.'

    go buy a nook moron

  • @johnmonk66

Asshole, the Nook manufactors didn't make alot, they wanted to see if it would be something people would buy, so now there making more and more, and i dont give a shit what they sold in December!

I bet you a million dollars that the Nook is going to sell waaaaay more then Kindle, in the next few years!

Im done with you and this conversastion, Goodbye!

  • @TheBlakeful1

i will take that bet, and your comment, which i copy and pasted, is legal proof of the bet. i can't wait untill next year when i collect my million dollars

  • Yeah, whatever

  • your gonna be so poor.

  • me2!!!!!!!! cuz i had just changed my settings when i was reading i liked it a lot better and i could read without having my lamp on next to me

  • Nice mix =D

    DC Talk & AC/DC

  • I can not understand why you got this instead of the kindle.

You can check you email on the kindle.

    You can surf the web.

It will read the book to you.

You can email yourself a file and it goes to the kindle.

I wrote a book and emailed it to myself, 235 pages, now it is on my kindle, all for free, and the kindle will read my book to me. Too awesome for words, but the nook does none of this

  • dosn't the email download cost 10 cents or something?

  • @rmf86 it has never charged me a dime

  • I wanted the best reader for reading ebooks and could care less about surfing or email. That is what a smartphone is for.

The nook has a better eInk display than the Kindle so that is important to me and my reading.

  • @palmsolo

better display? No, the kindle and the nook have the exact same display, it is the old sony reader that uses the 8 scale grey screen. Who ever told you the nook has a better display is ill informed.

  • Same specs and technology, yes. But the nook and 505 have a whiter background and bolder fonts that make ebooks look better. No one told me this, I have compared all myself.

  • @palmsolo love the review, i am wondering how do you feel about the product now? i am looking to buy one soon

  • ya i know i said the same thing but the people at barnes and nobles aparently think the B&N's e-ink display is better(idk if thats totally true)but u know how ppl like to think their product is better hahaha well the B&N keeps selling out and is still sold out so what does that tell u about which product is better? also i think how nooks navigation is set up, it a lot better than the kindles, the kiddle looks a lil bit more complicated and the nook has the color touch screen so its simplier

  • @prnces858 the kindle is two years old moron, and it was the number one selling electronic device on earth in 2009, so stick your nook clone where the sun dont shine

  • nice.lol

  • @johnmonk66 boi stfu he destroys you evry time u comment back

  • SHOW ME A LOADED PDF PLEASE!

  • yeah, why is it such a secret to see something that was a pdf on the nook? plus i dont know why there is only like 4 videos reviewing the nook. This is the best review.....only think is i wish somebody would show a pdf.

  • @axelasdf

lol, kindle beats this thing easy

  • It's supposed to get an update in January 2010 to make it faster.

  • great review, the only helpful video I've found.

I can't wait until this technology gets 'quicker'. I guess cheaper might be cool too..

  • Thank's for the review awesome review

  • Great vid of the Nook. Really helpful thanks.

  • The contacts function is there so you can share your e-books with friends.

  • wow is there an I,Robot book ?? 11:05

i didnt know the movie was based on a book

  • You should read more of Isaac Asimov's books. Just look him up...

    ^_^

  • @thatdutchguy89

the book is nothing like the movie, I,Robot is actually a whole series of books

  • Wonderful review! I got the answer to my question about using a dictionary. I have a Cybook Gen3 love it BUT choosing a word to look up takes a lot of time and effort. A SUGGESTION TO NOOK ENGINEERS (or 3rd party developers). Touchscreen to type in the word one wants to look up, the definition can be shown on the LCD screen (because of the speed to scroll) and colors can be used in the definition too. Pronounciation can be heard from the speakers also. So hopefully we'll have this feature.

  • Great job with showing its basic features. I ordered one for my wife for X-mas, and I'm sure she'll be thrilled with it. I'm sure that the Android system will allow great improvements on the Nook over time. It looks like a superb ebook reader. One can, inexpensively, get pdf CDs on eBay with multiple ebooks on each... and these are functional in the Nook, wherein one can alter the font sizes, etc. The touch screen looks very futuristic! It is very nice indeed!

  • @Thomas8pie

you do know that nooks ordered for xmas will not be shipped until January 11th at the earliest, right?

  • Jump up 'nd tap that my son!

  • Thanks for this indepth walk thru. I actually have an ereader, which is Astak EZ Reader Pocket Pro, I bought it bec I saw your reveiw of it too. Now, Nook looks very sweet gadget/ereader. I was actually torn with Nook, PRS300 and Astak Pocket Pro. Since Nook can read books other than books you bought in B&N, that is nice. I think I'll buy one, once they'll have a stock available. ;)
