Mac had to become a drunk and a clown because no one could live up to this for long. Its like Townshend and LIfehouse- because if it had been presented as a double album it would simply have been too powerful for Pete to survive for long. Also by 1984 Maggie was clearly confirmed in power and the point of all the great bands of the time led by genuises was over - the Pistols, Clash, Echo, Pretenders, Sioux -they were all shock troops of the left and right.
i remember moving to U.S. from PUERTO RICO in 1989, i was 14yo and craving music, but something that would change me and blah blah. well, that happned the day i went to the flea market and got ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN's LP PORCUPINE. i looked at the picture, so dark and atmospheric, went home, played it in my cheap, old TURntable and....that was it. for about four years i was literally obscess, and in a way still am.
@Spiderhead1000 I've been listening to Heaven Up Here it for nearly 30 years and still find it an awesome experience. I'll never tire of this album...
One of their best songs. Never was a single release but luckily is very frequently included in live setlists even so many years after the release of Heaven Up Here. The starting three songs of Heaven Up Here are compulsory for anyone wishing to know the true Echo & The Bunnymen. Heaven Up Here and Crocodiles breathe anxiety and claustrophoby, but genius records nonetheless. Ian's vocals are great when singing this live, he does it with more anger and power than on record.
@CrackedPleasures Heaven Up Here, is one of the best albuns of all times, in my humble opinion. This is one of my favs. Also, let me tell you that this music, had a great influence in my decidion to learn and play bass. The "swing" of the bass, is awesome. Ian voice is one of the best (and underated), and the composition itself, is geniuos. I stoped listen to Heaven up Here some years ago, due to so many times I listened. Now is time to play it again.

Echo & the Bunnymen's finest album, one of the best covers in the history of rock. What more could you ask for?

Best LP cover ever. The shimer of the shore at dawn. Maybe nobody was listening outside a few caverns, old theatres and rock bars. But I was.
