The prequels overdid it w/ the way Yoda spoke. In Empire he only spoke in "Yodic" occasionally. For the most part his syntax was normal.

@NuGhost Yea in the originals he only did "Yoda Speak" when he was being light-hearted and silly. He spoke normally when he was being serious or wise. Since he's ALWAYS serious and wise in the prequels, it just comes off as awkward.

The way Yoda inverts words is actually similar to the grammar structure of a Japanese sentence. My classmates asked our Japanese language teacher if, in that case, did Yoda (in the Japanese translations) use an English grammar structure. :( Never got 2 find out.

I like how the original Yoda didn't invert EVERYTHING he said but only did it sometimes for emphasis and this gets translated for the prequels as he says EVERYTHING inverted because apparently people only heard the inverted things he said in the original trilogy.

@PunchSydeiron That's because he is literally the same puppet they used in the original trilogy. And when everything else is CGI, a 30 year old puppet looks really out of place. I have no idea whose terrible decision that was.

@doodstormer I checked my collection of Yoda footage. It's not exactly the same Yoda, but rather a (I guess) "younger" puppet. Apparently Yoda's one of the few lifeforms that looks _better_ as he ages.
