  • Hi. I'm doing a project for my physics class on prostheses, and this was incredibly helpful. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any other sources to learn how different kinds of prostheses work.

  • Hey thanks for this video! Im doing research for my engineering senior design project and this was helpful seeing the body powered prosthesis in action. God bless!

  • Thank you for posting this.. very educational to me (I don't wear a prosthesis).

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. It is an invaluable learning tool for health care professionals in training. Love it! You ARE inspiring.

  • Thanks for posting these videos, they are incredibly informative and your practical, down to earth attitude is truly inspiring.

  • how did you lose your arm

  • You're a real inspiration! Have you ever heard a 1960's Garage style band called The Barbarians? A Gent named Victor Moulton led them and he was their Drummer. He too wore a hook style device on his left arm and Drummed like crazy! If you haven't seen them, they're on Youtube playing a live version of their song "Hey Little Bird." Thanks for being the great person you are!

  • @Rolco64 That performance was on the T.A.M.I. Show which is now on DVD. I highly recommend it for the James Brown performance below. Victor Moulton or "Moulty" was so good that I watched their performance, was amazed by the drummer, and didn't even notice his hand missing and the hook!!! I only realized it when I read an interview with him in the Boston Globe a week later. His drumstick is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland because of it.

  • Thanks for that. I always wanted to know how those work. When I was a kid, I was frightened of them.

  • Good voice and good presentation.

Only one thing... that bathroom echoes too much!

    Overall, good video though.

  • thats really cool

  • so, when you extend your arm it opens it. i always thought there was a cord attached to the tendons in the arm. oh well, the more you know!

  • thanks

  • Praticing wearing a gel stump sock on my left arm when i am not working (arm amputee pretender)untill i can raise the 4,500 for my prothesis (6months).

  • I am an Arm Amputee Pretender and in the process when i get the money 6 months of getting a hook like yours i already been to the prosthetist last monday. Kim Doolan(National arm amputee spokperson and prosthetist) recommended i look at The you tube videos

  • Hi could you tell me, How much does this prosthetic cost??

  • This arm was billed at $8,500 when it was made in 2002.

  • @theguywiththehook these things are more expensive than they appear to be, even being so simple...

  • That's so cool, I didn't know they were so simple to operate! It's pretty brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

  • you are a handsome man with a positive attitute and you never give up, I love people like you, confident and never giving up. all the best dude! and God bless:)

  • Hey man, thanks for this!

I'm doing a project on prosthetic arms, and this is helping a lot!

  • Were you born like that or what happened?

  • you fits like a captain hook arghhh

  • Hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you do for a living?

  • I own a sales rep agency for home integration/AV applications.

  • Nice demonstration captain hook.

  • What a wonderful guy,for real...

  • I have a prosthetic just like that, except mine is the whole arm. It works just like yours! Rock on, man! Prosthetics RUL3

  • Big hookshake to you!

  • *Shake*

  • Thank you! This was very educational for me!

  • I'm an engineering student working on a prosthetic design for below-elbow amputees, specifically in developing nations. Is your prosthetic socket custom molded to fit you? Are the inner sides of the hook coated in rubber for grip? what type of rubber bands close the hook- special grade/type?

  • Just want to say I have a lot of respect for you.

  • Man, if I was missing a hand, I'd totally get a prosthetic hand that looked like a lobster claw. Admit it, it would be awesome.

  • You're a dick! Is this some big joke to you? Millions of people lose limbs and go through a lot to adapt, guys like this should be looked up to, he doesn't let it affect him in any way. You need to learn some manners...

  • Dude, chill, I don't think he meant to insult anyone. I think he was just expressing an idea he had. Don't be so "politically correct".

  • Another thing: you haven't seen his most recent video, have you??;)

  • sweet hook sean love it

    keep the good video's comeing

    talk you later sean

  • Wow great job man! ur like a person where nothin keeps you down! good job!

  • Fascinating!:) I too have wondered exactly how prosthetics work! I look forward to seeing more videos like this!

  • What type of hooke do you use. I hear that the Dorrance hook is the best there is. I am a new amputee and I want the best. I do not want the weight of a myo electic system. Is your socket carbon fiber?

  • I use the Dorrance 555 and the 7 on the weekends. There is a new titanium 5x that is ultra-light, but I don't own one. The socket is carbon fiber which is also very lightweight. Ask whatever questions you like, I'll be glad to share my experience.

  • just been surfing and discovered this little gem of a vid. Man you awesome, i admire you so much, your explanation is superb, i too have always wondered how the hook works. Thanx for sharing.

  • You give people hope and comfort.

  • Wouldn't it be easier if the the device was connected to your bicep, so that when you flex your bicep the hooks open.

  • Great video man, you're awesome!

  • I have ALWAYS wondered how prosthetic arms work, thanks for the great explanation!! keep up the neat work!

  • Excellent..the audio was a bit booming ...but that was all in the location. It was an excellent tutorial. I appreciate somone FINALLY explaining the device in an understandable fashion.

  • Yes it does. very good my friend. I can see why you're an actor. You're a natural in front of the camera. 5 stars

  • I am a new amputee ( one month)right arm, thank you for your video.

  • Thank you for sharing this. I have often wondered how they work. Very instructional. Have you heard of the website upper extremity? You could be a tremendous help to them.

Perhaps you could post another video of things you do in everyday life with your prosthesis.
