Mum are good in their own respect, but I feel they are too minimalist to truly pull off everything that makes Slowdive's original version what it is.

Well, I personally think this is completely different than Slowdive. Yeah, the original is great, but a cover is not meant to 'pull off everything the original did'. If you do a cover, you have to bring in your own style, personality, sound, feeling. Add new elements, not just copy the original.

But that's just my opinion, of course.

i had always wondered are the lyrics

"son of sheba saw him drown

or

"saw machine guns, i slowed it down

saw the arrow, i slowed it down"

i've heard both. any ideas?

They're definitely saying "Son of Shiva" but it sounds more like "I saw in town".

Then, "saw the arrow, I slowed it down". That might make sense because I believe Shiva had a son named Arjuna who was an archer. I think that's in the Mahabharata.

Nah, Shiva had just 2 kids: Ganesh and Kartkeyya. Arjuna is the main person in Mahabharata, with Krishna.
