  • This airport is BOSS

  • AWESOME video!! I am a HUGE fan of the APM at the Atlanta Airport as I have ridden it many times and I have a couple videos of it (one going up next week) I really enjoyed this behind the scenes look of this amazing system! I would love to see it in person but I know you guys are VERY busy!! Anyway Thanks for posting this video and I LOVE the new name!

  • One of my fondest memories as a kid (back in the late 90's early 00's) was diving up to Hartsfield Atlanta airport when ever my dad went on a buisness trip or when my mom would take me up there after preschool as a treat, and riding the train back and fourth throughout the airport.

  • I remember the male voice too. He use to say, "The color coded map set sign in the vehicle matches the station colors, please move to the center of the vehicle and away from the doors." LOL I use to mimic him every day on my way to concourse E. Wow, old memories, I hated working at the airport when I was 16, it was my first job though and that was almost fifteen years ago. ;+)

  • @echodots The stations had diff. colors back then?

  • @echodots haha...That's it ! That's what I heard. If you could just load up that robotic voice on your next video that would certainly be awesome...just for memory's sake. ;)

  • @echodots Yeah when my dad went on business trips he used to take me (before 9/11) for rides on the train. I used to like the male voice better. can't believe you still remember what he said lol

  • I used to ride on a train at this airport that had the in-carriage announcement done in a male robotic tone. I thought that was really really cool. Is this APM that same train? It doesn't look like it cause I remember the one that I took moved very fast. This one looks a bit sluggish.

  • @superyusrie It is, the train is just going to matinantce very slowly cause it's going over the switches.

  • Wow man this brings back memories when my my Grandmother use to visit us from back home in California. I love riding these trains. Thanks for posting!

  • Ok I thought the APM was the black train manufactured by Mitsubishi and imported from Japan. That is completely different from what is being shown. What is being shown here is the MARTA, which is the Elevated train that runs throughout Atlanta

  • @kt32347 Thanks for the note. There are 3 trains operating at the airport so it's easy to get them mixed up. The Mitsubishi people mover is the ATL SkyTrain, which connects the passenger terminal to the Rental Car Center. MARTA does have an airport station, but this video features The Plane Train, which connects the terminal to the six airside concourses.

  • Who's the winner?

  • @mroksdude Won't be long, now!

  • What does that sign say at 0:42?

  • I wonder, is it possible in the future for two trains to run both directions? With the increase in passengers, would the current APM handle the load?

  • @BabyBang17datruth thanks for the note. There's plenty of capacity at this time and new trains are being added in the next couple years to support the international terminal, opening in 2012.

  • Hartsfield-Jackson (International) Airport Infra-Link = HAIL

    Infra- below

Link - connecting structure; to skip smartly along

Hail - salute; greet, to greet with enthusiastic approval; to greet or summon by calling

Therefore, the many named people mover should be called "HAIL."

It's simple; it would be a word that is internationally understood; and it stands for what it means.

  • Three suggestions:

    1) the Airway Subway

    2) the Jet Getter -- a pun on jet setter

    3) the Concourse Horse

  • I suggest the name "City Jet".

"City" for a representation of our city: Atlanta.

"Jet" hence the fact the train is built in one of the world's busiest airports!

"City Jet" Fast | Reliable | Convenient

  • I suggest the train "Hartsfield-Jackson Turbo Rail"

  • I suggest naming the train: The "JART,"This is a combination of the "J" from Jackson; the "A" from Atlanta. "R" for Rapid and the "T" for train/transit. It is a quick sound. The "j" sound is distinctive and the word 'Jart" sounds like 'dart' implying speed.

    From LouiZe C April 1, 2010

  • The people mover should be called The FlyTrain

  • Concourse Crawler. Or is that just weird?

  • Hey guys! I have THE name!! where do I find the official contest rules?

  • Atlanta has the Braves, Falcons, Hawks, and Thrashers. Well, in watching the video and how it captured the movement of the train through the concourse routes, I thought maybe it's time to add the Airport CATERPILLAR to the list.

  • The Plane Train.
