It's a little disconcerting to me to try and place any connection between Home and Dry the video, and Home and Dry the song... Watching mice scamper around train tracks for three and a half minutes with only glimpses of PSB playing their song -- a great incursion into folk -- is irritating. The song deserved so much better. It's a wonderful piece.
OKN, I have and am still deeply in love with the man I share a house with. As a matter of fact, this song holds a very strong place in my heart because when it came out I was traveling almost non-stop around the country (my decision as I worked for a contracting agency as an interpreter/translator). I had been on the road since Aug. 2001, coming home only very sporadically, and I was fearing that all this traveling would hurt my relationship. (Turns out, it didn't).
When this song came out in 2002 I was bouncing back from Kansas City to San Francisco to Denver to Chicago and San Francisco again. It was dedicated to me as a gift when "Release" came out. You can't imagine what it is to be going to meetings with people you don't really care about (though I did make a peppering of friends), but spending time mainly alone in hotel rooms, going about your business alone, even getting caught in a blizzard ALONE (October, 2002) in Colorado.
Anyway, long story short, the song came out, I got the CD in a neat little package, and I was completely and emotionally destroyed because of the meaning of "Home and Dry" because it was as if it had been written and executed especially for me. It was a tough period... but I know that tough times call for enormous inner strength.
Now. Going to the song as video, I envisioned something truly sweet, even though I knew the PSB made videos unrelated to the music.
When I finally got to see the video almost a year later I was dismayed. It didn't sum anything up to me, other than this was the director's vision. It seemed lazy, as a matter of fact. I had expected something truly sad but uplifting -- I kept thinking of airports, for some reason, since I practically lived in them -- because the song has that romantic tone to me: airports, businessman moving through trams, the suspense of the moment he will meet his other half.
So again... and to conclude: "Home and Dry" is, if nothing else their most personal, beautiful song -- it's unabashedly romantic, one of the only times they've bared their souls. I relate to it completely because "there's a plane at JFK/to to fly you back from far away/all those dark and frantic
transatlantic miles" do apply to me.
However... the video, to me, still falls flat on its face. I wish I could like it... but I don't.
Rango9: That's the entire point and that is how the meaning of the song takes you in... you don't know what the video is saying, you don't know what's going on, you see movements without understanding the meaning, you begin thinking all directions and not finding the meaning. That's just how one thinks & feels when their partner is at another place for some period of time. Now you might think again, maybe.
I´ve also been thinking about this. What´s the kind of connection with this song and a tube station? I understand that romantics are connected to this and maybe because of the poor mice running around below the tube track. It´s just speculation really. Would be fun if someone could answer me on that question.

One of many reasons why I'm a huge fan of PSB is because of their ability to write clever lyrics. "Home and Dry" is the tip of the Iceberg. I recommend listening to "You Choose," "The End of the World," and "The Survivors" (to name a few).

I am a die hard Pet Shop Boys fan, and adore their music.
I just couldn't help but hear Stings voice in this song! The same applies to the PSB's tune "BEFORE".
I think the Bee Gees could have had a hit with it as well!

Watching mice scamper around train tracks for three and a half minutes with only glimpses of PSB playing their song -- a great incursion into folk -- is irritating. The song deserved so much better. It's a wonderful piece.

OKN, I have and am still deeply in love with the man I share a house with. As a matter of fact, this song holds a very strong place in my heart because when it came out I was traveling almost non-stop around the country (my decision as I worked for a contracting agency as an interpreter/translator). I had been on the road since Aug. 2001, coming home only very sporadically, and I was fearing that all this traveling would hurt my relationship. (Turns out, it didn't).

Part 2:
When this song came out in 2002 I was bouncing back from Kansas City to San Francisco to Denver to Chicago and San Francisco again. It was dedicated to me as a gift when "Release" came out. You can't imagine what it is to be going to meetings with people you don't really care about (though I did make a peppering of friends), but spending time mainly alone in hotel rooms, going about your business alone, even getting caught in a blizzard ALONE (October, 2002) in Colorado.

Part 3:
Anyway, long story short, the song came out, I got the CD in a neat little package, and I was completely and emotionally destroyed because of the meaning of "Home and Dry" because it was as if it had been written and executed especially for me. It was a tough period... but I know that tough times call for enormous inner strength.
Now. Going to the song as video, I envisioned something truly sweet, even though I knew the PSB made videos unrelated to the music.

Part 4:
When I finally got to see the video almost a year later I was dismayed. It didn't sum anything up to me, other than this was the director's vision. It seemed lazy, as a matter of fact. I had expected something truly sad but uplifting -- I kept thinking of airports, for some reason, since I practically lived in them -- because the song has that romantic tone to me: airports, businessman moving through trams, the suspense of the moment he will meet his other half.

Part 5:
So again... and to conclude: "Home and Dry" is, if nothing else their most personal, beautiful song -- it's unabashedly romantic, one of the only times they've bared their souls. I relate to it completely because "there's a plane at JFK/to to fly you back from far away/all those dark and frantic
transatlantic miles" do apply to me.
However... the video, to me, still falls flat on its face. I wish I could like it... but I don't.
Oh well.

Rango9: That's the entire point and that is how the meaning of the song takes you in... you don't know what the video is saying, you don't know what's going on, you see movements without understanding the meaning, you begin thinking all directions and not finding the meaning. That's just how one thinks & feels when their partner is at another place for some period of time. Now you might think again, maybe.

I´ve also been thinking about this. What´s the kind of connection with this song and a tube station? I understand that romantics are connected to this and maybe because of the poor mice running around below the tube track. It´s just speculation really. Would be fun if someone could answer me on that question.

the video is to do with the fact that in the song neil is supposed to be missing his partner and wants them home (safe and well) as in home and dry mice are supposed to pine for each other when their loved one isnt near

One of many reasons why I'm a huge fan of PSB is because of their ability to write clever lyrics. "Home and Dry" is the tip of the Iceberg. I recommend listening to "You Choose," "The End of the World," and "The Survivors" (to name a few).

that is new york city`s subway , i swear iv seen there rats lol, im not kidding , i bet they just sat at a train station in ny and just recorded for a couple of hors and then pasted it all together.
