so, you don't like our country and want to leave, huh? I'd say that's pretty unpatriotic and unAmerican. It didn't work in the 1860's, it won't work now. I were a solder from NH who is in Iraq or Afghanistan, fighting and risking my life for AMERICA, I'd be pretty pissed at you guys.
You know I love the free project movement, but HELLLLLLL FUCKKKKING NO you are not going to secede, you voted for Obama in NH and you suckers aren't going to just run off and leave us with your stupid mistake. So wait, the point is to get NH to LEAVE the US? What? So all you paulies are moving to my home state so you can form your own country by breaking NH off from the rest of the union? Is that your goal? i'm confused.
The idea goes something like this: The United States government has , piece by piece, damaged many of our Constitiutional rights to the point of no return.
Bloated on power , those elite have neither the time nor the ear to listen to the grievances of the common man. By passing ever restricting laws on the people of this nation there are few ways left for the people to be heard.
Secede from the union and establish a constitutional government for the people, by the people, of the people.
So you do want NH to secede and establish their own country?
If that's what you want, I say fine. You Paulies get Gaffton (excluding Hanover and Lebanon; we're not giving up Dartmouth), Coos, and Carroll, while us longtime NH residents get everything else. This will be quite a joy to us, considering how Rockingham (my county), Hillsborough, and Merrimack are responsible for the majority of state income.

I agree with you...so long as a majority of Americans agree also.
But they do not....in fact, the number of Americans who believe that a State can secede from the Union is so minimal that it probably cannot even be scientifically quantified.
Yep, and in the united States of America, we still have our guns so we can protect ourselves from Statistism. (Some things NEVER change.)
We, the People ARE the well regulated militia!
In 19th centruy terms "well regulated" means well practiced, well drilled and ready for battle.
This will remain a cold war of ideas until the day they come for our means of defending our life & liberty. That is the day that this cold war goes HOT and "We, the People" take it back from the oligarchy!
After we secede from the Union, each town and city can then break away from the state and so on and so forth until every person has completely seceded from any societal (and even familial because families too restrict our liberty) responsibility.
Each person would be endowed by the creator with their own personal constitution. Frontier justice would decide conflicts of overlapping and opposing personal freedoms.
Freedom would be determined by the biggest gun and the quickest draw!
sigh. that sounds like one of those 'do you want to live in a mad max world!?' argument against anarchism. which also makes little real-world sense. but i could be misunderstanding you. 500 characters isn't much to express a thought.
I wonder what functioning society in the known history of civilization has thrived and progressed where anarchy was the cornerstone of it's governing philosophy?
Actually forget the "thriving" and "progressing" modifiers... how about just basically functional? Are there any examples or precedents of that?
the assumptions of the question are wrong so it can't really be answered.
the goal is LEGITIMATE power, mandated and enacted by the people. decentralizing government and, eventually, dissolving states will almost certainly happen in the future.
if you want to have a gun-slinging freakish mentality towards your peers, go ahead. but you might not be included when a civilized society of free associations is formed.
Whatever you dope, have you ever lived in a city? You can't tell me that a city could operate in a vacuum of anarchy. You're probably really bright or think you are, however, I'd like to let you know that the idea of people getting along via "free associations" assumes that people are smart, selfless, and morally upright. C'mon dude, are you fucking seriously floating this as a realistic ideal?
I'm curious how the hell your mind can accept this ridiculous idea. Please convert me.
simple, i'm not talking about a top-down change in society. most people seem to be, even when pushing for social change themselves. we have to create a society in which universal ideals are promoted as opposed to what we have now.
very compelling arguments were made before the abolition of slavery that a non-slaving society couldn't function for similar reasons you state above. conditions only improve if you organize and push for them to improve.
Simple? Man, you failed to even respond to my argument. You can push whatever ideals you want, but when they conflict with reality and self interest in a being with freedom of choice you're screwed.
The comparison to slavery is patently ridiculous. I suspect that many people floating ideas similar to yours have simply never really paid attention to the fact that humans, put under stress, are opportunistic savages, held in check by a strange web of religion, society, and law.
i have to ask because it seems to be this way whenever someone comes at me all belligerent like that, do you think that i mean these things will happen overnight? over the course of a year? a decade? because i don't.
there are massive restructurings in society that have to take place, but there's no reason not to have an ideal in your head to work for. unless you love war or just want to be a twat. hardlines are a two way street.
I'd rather be a twat than a twit ;-P I'm saying you're naive to an extreme if you believe this nonsense.
I question the length and breadth of your life experience. Society is pretty old, and patterns so far point to the continued need for government and law.
People will resort to cannabalism if starved, so you'll NEVER convince me that morality and credos do shit to truly change the behavior of the beast under stress.
I just think you're removing stress from the equation.
i never said we don't need government and law. what we need is a whole 'nother kind.
if you want to talk patterns in society, we can talk about the patterns of oppression and repression carried out by various forms of governments and laws.
right! i want to remove stress from the equation! how do we do that? by giving people a valid role in their own government. decentralize, humanize, moralize, whatever you want to call it. it's the stress of the current systems that's tearing us apart.
You're missing my point. The system you describe falls apart when scarcity occurs. The state isn't the stressor, its the response to all of them.
We live in a world where people compete for shit, and some people will always be willing to harm others to achieve their goals. Minus a sovereign, they get away with it.
I'm not the biggest Hobbes fan, but read Leviathan, written from the perspective of a man who witnessed what happens in a power vacuum. You're just not being realistic.
"...and some people will always be willing to harm others to achieve their goals." This sounds like the agendas of most state governments! Oh, and the Feds, too.
Why don't you find a relevant video to post this comment on. If you had read this resolution, you'd see it has nothing to do with anarchy. Rather, it has to do with self-government and Constitutional principles. All of the words, with some minor exceptions are written by Jefferson and Madison.
i actually wasn't trying to get into a discussion about anarchy, i was just pointing out the similarities in the scare tactics people use when discussing it and the current bill.
however, anarchy is self-government. and one of the truest forms of democracy. but that's not important right now.
as for madison... well, can't say i much care for his ideals.
True, poor choice in retrospect, huh New Hampshire. A few early victories for Paul in the primaries might well have seen a different president in the White House and a REAL change.
Many of us across the U.S. are watching all of this very closely. Muster the courage and the political will to do it. Ask yourselves: what would the Founding Fathers of this country have done? They WOULD vote for it!
I hope Idaho has the balls to do this, our Gov. is not wanting to take money from the feds.....that is a good first step. I fully support succession and a states right to do so. Just like the southern war for independence, get ready.
Go NH!!! Excellent move by and for REAL Constitutional Patriots! I dearly hope every state seceeds sooner than later. This is the ONLY civil war I'm interested in supporting: political withdrawal from the maffia federal regime of corporate government.
This bill is no more secessionist than the constitution itself. It simply sets forth constitutional standards for the legitimate role of the federal government.
"Secession" is only related to this bill in the sense that, if the government does "horrible, terrible, evil things," with or without this bill it would be totally reasonable to do so rather than to slavishly cling to an abusive partner.
This bill simply puts the federal government on notice, that they should be mindful of our rights.
Sadly, all it does is say, "Please, massa, no more."
It's like being against gun control by not passing more gun control legislation. What about all the abuse already on the books?
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government"
A sleeping giant can be blinded by those who sneek quietly by.
A blinded giant can be brought down by the puny arm of a man.
This is the truth taught us by the Oddessy.
AMERICA WAKE UP!
YOU HAVE BEEN BLINDED BY THE STEALTH OF A SMALL MINORITY OF POLITICAL POWER GRABBERS. EVEN NOW THEY ARE SHARPENING THEIR KNIFES AND PLANNING HOW TO DISPATCH YOU AND CARVE UP YOUR CARCASS!
Trojanponey, maybe this is a good opportunity for the South to "rise again"! If ever there were a time for States to stand up and kill the Fed monster I think this is it!
I LOVE THIS. I am a FSP member and "next 1000" mover. I WISH I was there right now to help this bill pass! As for NH not being big enough to be a republic or its own nation, how about Iceland? They have less than 300,000 residents, and most of them live in only one city (Reykjavik). How about Vatican City - it's a nation too. How about tiny Nevis in the Caribbean? It is only 35 square miles in size. All of these nations exist independently. WHY NOT NH?
I sure hope HCR 6 passes in NH. I've read that the bill got the initial thumbs down 11 to 7 vote in the Executive Session - which just means that the Executive committee simply voted to designate (or rubber stamp) the bill "Inexpedient To Legislate" (ITL). [For others ITL means that the committee RECOMMENDS AGAINST PASSAGE of the bill - but that doesn't mean that the bill can't actually be passed when it hits the floor of the legislature later on - it'll just be a lot harder to get it passed].
I guess that's the same path that the Free State Movement in NH took with getting the anti-REAL ID legislation passed. I take it that the anti-REAL ID bill was also designated ITL, and then you had to work to get past the designation by lobbying your legislature with a large showing. Am I correct?
So anyway, i hope all goes well with this and that you make a hard-hitting lobbying effort to get HCR 6 up for a concurrent vote. That's a very important bill ya know!
if i recall correctly, he said that about south carolina, right? i don't have the time right now to look up the full context of the quote but i'm pretty sure that it's only somewhat valid, as at least i am not in favor of the bill because it has secession in it, rather that it states that a large number of people are in favor of democracy and don't wish to be abused by a brutal regime within their own state.
you are correct. i don't live in new hampshire. and i prefer a republic over pure democracy. nevertheless if your state decides to secede be prepared for federal occupation with a military government. regardless of the right or wrong this will be the natural couse of events, even under obama.
it's not about seceding. it's about peacefully resolving issues of great importance, and setting boundaries for how far we will allow the federal government to be out of line. it's already drastically farther than the vast majority of the world would ever want.
i don't presume to know what would happen were any state to secede. no one knows what would happen. but i can be reasonably sure it would not be a smooth transition if it were to happen 'soon'
as a southerner i have always been a states rights man. so good luck to you. in the south we have a saying "we lost the war but we won the argument." of course, that's small consolation.
Do the Northcom combat troops know about this? lol.
I sincerely hope that you can get it passed.
Put the pressure on New Hampshirites!. Because someone (like NH, and hopefully more state governments) needs to draw a line in the sand. You know, one of those "we're mad as hell...and we're not going to take it anymore!" kind of lines.
The real question, I think, is if a secession vote actually does occur, will the people take up arms to defend their state against Federal aggression?
With the "National Guard" obey their President, or their Governor?
The Texas Republic never joined the Union in the first place. We were taken over by Union soldiers, after the Civil War, and annexed, against our will by the United States. Lawfully, we are still a republic.
do you have any ideas on how to go about achieving these goals? i know bolivia is making pretty huge progress on that front but i haven't looked into specifics yet. my hope is the formation of a coalition of sorts, comprised of native people [not just native politicos, real people that have direct ties to every corner of their culture and circumstance] and support what they come up with, along with reparations- as if anyone could afford to pay what is owed...
This is a hard one....We can't go back and change history. And we can't expect the descendants of these invaders to pay for their crimes. How can you pay for the loss of someone's family, their years of slavery, their property, their silver and copper mines, and even their lives? It can't be done. We will start from where we are now and try and make the best of what we have. And, someday.....the land will be ours again. I know it in my heart.....
every single day the natives are stuck on reservations and not allowed to prosper. at any time someone could have paid attention to the injustices and made a move to fix it. in the sixties when the government was dropping agent orange not only in korea but on the apaches right here in the US, no one spoke up.
there are PLENTY of modern crimes that need correcting.
What's going to really hurt is if Rep. Itse's resolution (HCR 6) the one that was used by a good portion of the other states to now do this, get it passed in their states and it doesn't pass in its state of origin... New Hampshire - I sure as heck hope the rally on Wednesday make a difference.
The USSA is going to break up, that's an historical fact. No empire lasts forever.
The only question is when.
With the present president building on the last president's urge to print money, and the resulting hyperinflation, this country is going to go into a crisis soon.
Will that crisis be used for ultra-nationalism like the Great Depression? Or a "screw it, this isn't working" like the fall of the USSR?
Hate to tell ya Dave, but...... Lynch showed last spring that he has no spine. He pleaded with Homeland Insecurity and said he needed until 2011. Our new licenses are part of real id. Lynch has no spine.

Good luck NH!!!

Go NH!!! Excellent move by and for REAL Constitutional Patriots! I dearly hope every state seceeds sooner than later. This is the ONLY civil war I'm interested in supporting: political withdrawal from the maffia federal regime of corporate government.
lisahenkes 3 years ago 3
So.. you support our secession of 1861? Thanks!
And Hell yes Idaho, say no to your Socialist leaders every chance you get!
Trojanponey 3 years ago 2
That's not a "civil" war, that's a war of secession.
One of the best propaganda coups of the winning side in the war of 1861, was to pretend it was a "civil" war and not a war of Northern conquest.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 3
If I had the resources to do so, I would show up for that rally in full Colonial Militia gear. ...but I don't even have a 3-corner hat.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 2
I gotta say Mac, I agree with you but I don't think we're going to face any conflict for another few years.
Americans are lazy, fat, and submissive right now... It's going to take a little while for the fire to get going.
Quick, everyone make a Cacophony society!

This bill simply puts the federal government on notice, that they should be mindful of our rights.
thewama 3 years ago
what do you think are the chances that the federal government will not do "evil things" during the next thirty minutes?
RidleyReport 3 years ago
None. They do stupid, evil things constantly.
CurtHowland 3 years ago 2
Sadly, all it does is say, "Please, massa, no more."
It's like being against gun control by not passing more gun control legislation. What about all the abuse already on the books?
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government"
CurtHowland 3 years ago
Well..I think the threat of secession says "NO MORE!" while cocking the hammer of a gun.

P3rf3ctStorm 3 years ago
I guess that's the same path that the Free State Movement in NH took with getting the anti-REAL ID legislation passed. I take it that the anti-REAL ID bill was also designated ITL, and then you had to work to get past the designation by lobbying your legislature with a large showing. Am I correct?
So anyway, i hope all goes well with this and that you make a hard-hitting lobbying effort to get HCR 6 up for a concurrent vote. That's a very important bill ya know!
Thx for the update Dave..

to paraphrase james r. petigru (1789-1863) new hampshire is too small to be a republic and too large to be a insane asylum.

"New Hampshire is too small to be a republic and too large to be an insane asylum."
So then what exactly do YOU think New Hampshire's size is just right for?
P3rf3ctStorm 3 years ago
look up james r. petigru and see what he was saying at the time about the particular state he was describing. then you'll understand the reference.
geargemartin 3 years ago
a lot of people here must not like historical references.
geargemartin 3 years ago
do you mean james L petigru?
intrepgun 2 years ago
yes you are correct it was james L. petigru. i appreciate the correction. the sentiment though remains valid.
geargemartin 2 years ago
if i recall correctly, he said that about south carolina, right? i don't have the time right now to look up the full context of the quote but i'm pretty sure that it's only somewhat valid, as at least i am not in favor of the bill because it has secession in it, rather that it states that a large number of people are in favor of democracy and don't wish to be abused by a brutal regime within their own state.
intrepgun 2 years ago
you are correct. i don't live in new hampshire. and i prefer a republic over pure democracy. nevertheless if your state decides to secede be prepared for federal occupation with a military government. regardless of the right or wrong this will be the natural couse of events, even under obama.
geargemartin 2 years ago
it's not about seceding. it's about peacefully resolving issues of great importance, and setting boundaries for how far we will allow the federal government to be out of line. it's already drastically farther than the vast majority of the world would ever want.
i don't presume to know what would happen were any state to secede. no one knows what would happen. but i can be reasonably sure it would not be a smooth transition if it were to happen 'soon'
intrepgun 2 years ago 2
as a southerner i have always been a states rights man. so good luck to you. in the south we have a saying "we lost the war but we won the argument." of course, that's small consolation.

Dan is for preserving the union not seceding from it.

Who can say?
The real question, I think, is if a secession vote actually does occur, will the people take up arms to defend their state against Federal aggression?
With the "National Guard" obey their President, or their Governor?
It would be very, very, interesting times.

The Texas Republic never joined the Union in the first place. We were taken over by Union soldiers, after the Civil War, and annexed, against our will by the United States. Lawfully, we are still a republic.

Set the clock back a little further, say 3,500 years, and it belonged to my
ancestors, the Comanches for 3,000 years, until the Spaniards came and stole it. How far back would you like to go?
SunnyDaayz 2 years ago 2
seems to me we're on the same page. recognition of native rights and the horrors that destroyed them in the first place.
intrepgun 2 years ago
I couldn't agree more.
SunnyDaayz 2 years ago
do you have any ideas on how to go about achieving these goals? i know bolivia is making pretty huge progress on that front but i haven't looked into specifics yet. my hope is the formation of a coalition of sorts, comprised of native people [not just native politicos, real people that have direct ties to every corner of their culture and circumstance] and support what they come up with, along with reparations- as if anyone could afford to pay what is owed...
intrepgun 2 years ago
This is a hard one....We can't go back and change history. And we can't expect the descendants of these invaders to pay for their crimes. How can you pay for the loss of someone's family, their years of slavery, their property, their silver and copper mines, and even their lives? It can't be done. We will start from where we are now and try and make the best of what we have. And, someday.....the land will be ours again. I know it in my heart.....
SunnyDaayz 2 years ago
every single day the natives are stuck on reservations and not allowed to prosper. at any time someone could have paid attention to the injustices and made a move to fix it. in the sixties when the government was dropping agent orange not only in korea but on the apaches right here in the US, no one spoke up.
there are PLENTY of modern crimes that need correcting.

If there was ever a state that NEEDED to divide, it's California. The South/North cultural split there is remarkable.
Much like New York.
If the dissolution of the USSA happens, I wouldn't be surprised if NYC and L.A. become their own "City States".

I don't know. But something WILL happen.
Freedom or Napoleon? The choice is ours.
