@dkc4475 Good Lord have mercy, what a strange and awful memory to have to a song. I was too, but no music was playing. Hope you are good with life now. Can you even listen to this?
I love this song.I love this band. All there songs have a very nostalgic feel for me.It reminds me of my childhood.I think it maybe something to do with the Bangles song "Eternal flame"
@killnickleback You have one of the best youtube names I've ever seen, even if you spelled Nickelback wrong. I'm down for some Nickelback related homicide.
I'm fairly sure the notes he's playing are available on any guitar.
It's not a lower octave I don't think, it's like the lower frequencies are having their volume raised substantially by an EQ device, probably a pedal being turned on and left on for the duration of the song.
Also, on this recording there's some very strong phaser being added to his guitar's signal. There might be a little in the original recording, just more subtle.
@VAGINACRO i'm not completely sure what you're saying. what i was basically saying is that he's using that weird pedal for bass sounds. I have never seen one of those before, but i'm almost positive that the bass you hear in this video is coming from that pedal.if you listen carefully, you can hear bass notes that i know aren't coming from his guitar. when they record for albums they probably just use an actual bass guitar.but for this video he's def using that pedal(look @ his feet & timing)
You're right, the bass is related to a pedal, but it's his guitar's sound being changed by a pedal. He's just tapping his feet, not hitting switches that set off pre-recorded sounds.
It's difficult to explain unless you've experimented with guitar equipment. He probably turns on a pedal or two as the song begins and leaves the pedal on until the song is over. All of the notes you hear are played on his guitar live. He modifies the guitar's sound.
@VAGINACROBAT i'll just ask him on myspace haha. i guess i am confused. to me it looks like he's playing high notes on the guitar. and i also hear low bass notes. it's not possible for him to be doing those 2 things at the same time with just one guitar. MAYBE he is using a pre recorded bass that's coming from a loop pedal or something else. but to me it straight out it looks like those pedals are basically a bass that he's playing with his feet.

Oh shit, you're right.
Sorry about that man.
I thought you meant in the intro, when his guitar has that deep bassy sound.
You're right about the bassline in the chorus.
I always thought that was the organ, but it doesn't seem like it in this video.
My bad, dude.
