@godloverbrit the american version used to, each survivor would be allowed one 'luxury item' but i think there were certain rules, like it couldn't be something that would give up an unfair advantage, like a fishing pole or something. most of the time people would bring journals.

but they stopped doing it about 5-6 years ago now...

SO funny - am addicted to US Survivor and just watched Aussie Survivor (U-tube). Didn't know Australia had one and if I hadn't watched that, wouldn't know the UK did, either. Hope it's at least not crappy. :o)

("They" said Aussie was worse than UK but I liked it and I'm from the US so OUR Survivor rocks anyway... Willing to give this a whirl and forgive any potential crappy soundtrack / crappy host they might throw at me, lol!)

Hmm....even though I was born and have lived in the States all of my life, I've been to Great Britain and in all honesty, I liked it a lot. I don't however believe that reality television should give one country the right to criticize another. Anyway, I've watched about every season of Survivor in the US and I like it a lot. I think it'll be interesting to see how the U.K. version plays out.

I'm not surprised at all that our version of survivor only lasted 2 seasons. I'm just happy it worked in America cause I had 21 more seasons to watch and one that's on now :)

The host has too explain everything doesn't he? Did anyone really care what the tribe names ment? Especialy since their symbols are a snake and eagle? Or did anyone care that they were bringing a machette, axe, pot, and whatever the hell else he said they were bringing? Or, my personal favorite, that they were going to an island with beaches?

can't compare this to the original, I know that 1mil pounds is more that $1mil but when he says it it sounds like 1 mil yen. when Jeff Probst says $1 mil it sounds like $1 billion. I don't know, thats my opinion.

How great! I've just discovered the British Survivor :D Hope I'll like it as much as the original.

I have to say though, that I really like the US intro song better...maybe it's just a matter of what I'm used to, but...it sounds better to me.

What would you guys bring for a luxury item if you were playing?

I'd probably bring a journal, though the coolest items I've seen are herbs/spices, a flag (doubled as a rainproof tarp!, and sports equipment for group games.

I loved how in one season they used leaves, painted numbers on them to create a deck of cards. I'm looking forward to watching this UK version. Thank you for sharing this with us all.

Well of course the US version is better, because the shows have to please more slobs eating ready meals in front of the tv.

demand in the US is considerable massive, so more money and better filming is accepted.

How sad is it to judge how 'amazing' ones country is based on the state of the tv shows...

To be honest i do prefer the UK version. but then that is what i grew up with. I can't remember the year this was on the tv but i was pretty young.

I hate the intro music, the host and all the shits!!! This is totally a copycat!!!! No one can replace Jeff Probst!!! It's a shame for the "Great?!!!" Britain that even a non-American like me doesn't like this... I'm sure most of the Americans hate this shit!!

This is such a copy of American Survivor. Watch the first few minutes of the US version. It's almost exactly the same.

Nope, Survivor Borneo was 2000, Survivor UK started in 2001. Although, it was based on a Swedish show that started in 1992.
