Been in Japan a decade and have never heard nor seen this. But on the Net I've seen plenty of examples of mistaking Japanese humour and gags for real intent. But I don't see many Japanese mistaking the Onion,, tongue in cheek or gag products for reality.
i reckon the baby mop and full umbrella where actually pretty good ideas babys make alot of mess so instead of having somone walk behind them picking stuff up the baby unwittingly cleans its mess upp
that upside-down umbrella rain collector isn't so bad... if it came with a back-pack tank, you could wash your hands, wash your car, water your plants, etc. that full umbrella would be better if it only went down to the waste. and the baby mop is good for dusting the floor off but you gotta wash it often or the baby'll sneeze like crazy.
