If you observe carefully, you'll notice that Scott's right foot falls into a softer area, causing him to lose his balance and fall. Not having been here before (duh), of course he wouldn't know this spot was here!! Give the guy a break.
@imnazhole: Back when I weighed 70 lbs, I tripped and fell sometimes, too, and I wasn't wearing a stiff suit in an unfamiliar gravitational environment.
I'm not as clued up on moon and space as some on here, but did watch a film on here testing the space suit in a vaccum chamber,it leaked and when he fell over he was very floaty and that was in earths gravity so why didnt they float a lot more in only 1/6th ?
armstrong said its a slow motion world well why does this guy fall so fast and theres 2 flikering stars! Stars that they never saw and stars would'nt fliker on the moon! Sort it out nasawood.
Is it just me, or has just about every astronaut that's walked on the moon so far fallen over? Either intentionally or not. It's almost tradition by now.
gravity on the moon is 1/6th of the earth. keep in mind the suits and packs weighed in at around 185lbs, which most people don't consider when they are cooking up theories about what it should "really" look like when an astronaut falls in 1/6th gravity.
The Apollo Programme showed that even the powerful USA wasn't able to deal alone with the Space Conquest (Mars and beyond). That's the reason we have the ISS and the next missions to the Moon and planets will be an international effort belonging to all Earth, to all humans. Perhaps the next man to step on the Moon is a Chinese or a French or a Mexican, who knows and it doesn't matter; there are capable people everywhere.
I wrote: Mars and beyond... a behemoth challenge, no? I see no problem and I see as extremely positive that the next steps shall be done by the entire world community, don't you agree?
In the movie 'Apollo 13' Jim Lovell, played by Tom Hanks said, "Imagine if Christopher Columbus had come back from the New World and no one returned in his footsteps."
Well, that's pretty much what they did. A lot of good science was done, little doubt about that. We have samples that would have taken thousands of robotic probes to get.
But a conquest of space it was not. More like dipping a toe in an ocean.
@Atkingani: What are you talking about? The U.S. would have visited Mars in 1986 if Nixon hadn't canceled the Apollo Applications program. What it showed is that our achievements are limited by our willingness to pursue them. And if individual countries don't muster up the will to do something great, international cooperation won't mean anything.
@Atkingani letting others play in your sand box is not the same as eveyone building the sand box. PS. i hope the next to step on the moon is not an American, because its a foolish idea.
Apollo missions were tracked by several agencies and many pro and amateur astronomers. If it was a hoax or a lie Russians or Chinese were the first to speak it out and even if there was some kind of "agreement" among these nations (which I doubt) the independent astronomers won't let it pass. So, stop denying this feature! BTW, I'm not American and I'm not too keen with the USA but they did it and they deserve the honors...
thats funny... yet it made me feel a bit 'icky'... how Robust are those suits? Thats like the second stack ive seen on the moon... All i know is it were me on the moon, id be treading ever step VERY carefuly...
yes well until you visit moon and notice that you were wrong all the time, you can go do something else than trying to convince other people what you believe and humiliating yourself
why is that surprising? He probably weighs about 250-300 pounds with that gear on. On the moon, that evens out to about 40-50 pounds. Which is about half the weight of an extremely skinny girl.
The astronots were trained to lean forward on their fly system rigs, so they wouldn't fall backwards wearing their PLSS on the moonset, during the filming of the Apollo Simulation Project.. It looks like no rigs were used for this particular Apollo 15 gig.
A 40-50 pound girl wouldn't be skinny, she would be dead .. That is unless she was about 5 years old.
"what do you mean (stardog02)? ofcourse he aren't so heavy in moon!! you fucking dumbass xD"
If he were really on the Moon in 1/6g, he would not only be standing much differently but would also be able to jump 6 to 14 feet off of the lunar surface, regardles of his weight.
Perhaps you should stick with subjects you know something about .. Like G-man video games.
"(straydog02) that's the moon don't you belive that peoples have went to moon? you're so fucking strange"
LOL
I don't believe the Apollo photography was taken on the Moon .. As for any "peoples have went to the moon"? .. Using almost 40 year old conventional technology, (when NASA can't even send a manned mission there today) I highly doubt it.
NASA could if Americans wanted to, it's all politics. Russians were watching the Apollo flight via radar. Think of that propaganda victory: NjASA fakes moonlanding
Thanks for this upload. I had seen other renditions and thought he had tripped on the rock, but I think he found a soft spot and broke thru.
And, yes, all falls were life threatening events; there is not sufficient time to repair the suit.

Do you notice how everything in the image is flickering? You don't suppose it has something to do with the camera/transmission?
Also, try this experiment. Trip yourself up and see how long it takes for you to hit the ground. I bet you can do it faster than Scotty here.

Well, everyone knows that
what you say is what you are.
It so true, he had some major forward momentum going on there, genius.
And the dust he kicked up twice, fell as if it were under earth gravity, not 1/6 that of earth.
I am sorry, maybe you are still in grade school, and you were not paying attention.

The dust he kicked up settled immediately just as it would in a vacuum, it appears you did not pay attention in grade school.

Oh, we see. The moon is a big vacuum,
and space is under pressure.
The moon just sucked the dirt and dust
straight down. That makes perfect sense.
