@kmanick yeah it's not the best nor what the amp was made to do but it's passable. especially if you're primarily doing a rock show and need to chill out on the gain for whatever reason but not have the amp sound like it's having the life choked out of it.. sort of like a 5150 or an uberschall trying to do low gain. sounds like crap IMO.
how come you turn up the volume almost all the way, but use a volume pedal in the fx loop? why not just turn down the volume knob? is this to push the power tubes?

no it pushes the preamp tubes harder. fills out and smooths out the tone
