  • Love this song and I can't agree more about the comments I have read, my friend downloaded the Best Of Dan Fogelburg for me from ITunes, I received the CD in the mail today, I have listened to it twice, lots of emotions running through my heart, sad to think we will never hear anything new, but yes lots of good memories, I so cherish his music...

  • So touched profoundly when I hear this song... Every single time I'm brought back to a place when I felt young love that I can reflect upon... when all things were possible & when all was right in the world...except for the fork in the road, that somehow changes everything.

  • I miss Maria! This song brings it all back. Mostly I still care and thanks to Dan I will forever(4/EVER)!!! We used to write This in notes at school. I miss her.

  • Dan's wife has started a petition to induct Dan into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Check out the website. Such a sweet voice. Check out "Dancing Shoes" if you haven"t heard. it.

  • Thank you for your voice and your heart Dan. You are missed!!

  • Happy 2012..Thanks Dan for this great song..Memories...

  • I was lucky enough to see him with just a piano, his guitars and nobody else on the stage. It was awesome hearing him sing and tell the stories of how the songs he wrote came to life before studio magic was added. Love this song, especially at this time of the year.

  • Never seen him perform, this was wonderful, one of my favorite songs this time of year. I wait for it every season!

  • Very lucky to have gotten to see him in concert. Whatever happened with Tim Weisberg?

  • all our stories have been told ... now we get to listen to bi*ches gettin slapped and h*es makin dat money ... wait ... there was one about being stuck in a closet ... yeah ... that was truly art .... :(

  • One of the best songs ever recorded. Of that soprano sax riff at the end gets me every single time! Amazing.

  • 106.7 Lite FM New York brought me here!

  • There are a few songs that can take me back to a particular place, a particular time...there are only a few artists who could do the same...Dan had the gift that combined the two--what a great talent, and greatly missed....

  • THE best chritmas song ever!!!! undisputed!!!!

  • One of the best songs ever written & recorded. Christmas is not the same without it. Thank you and God bless you Dan for touching our hearts so much with this song. So powerful indeed.

  • I love this song too!

  • remembering Dan today...will always have this song every year...

  • Driving home tonight, radio station 106.7 Lite FM played Dan Fogelberg " Same Auld Lang Syne", I noticed the clock was at 8:13 p.m., isn't that Dan's Birthday August 13? It's such a treasure they are playing Dan Fogelberg at this very moment, just like a magic, I can feel the holiday warmth around me with Dan singing that song, although it was not snowiing, we miss you Dan! I just wanted to share with you my encounter with Dan on the way home tonight! Holiday greeting to you my friends! Bill

  • @JMEagle101 WOW I'm from New jersey and I got off of work at 8:00pm that night and I listen to the same station from thanksgiving to Christmas I didn't notice the time but I heard this also and I can't stop singing it in my head...Cool

  • I have always been left silent at the end of this song with the horn seeming to cry for me...Does anyone know if that horn player is Kenny G?

  • @checkin4 Looks like it's an alto sax in the video and it doesn't look like Kenny G is the one playing it. Not sure about the studio version though.

  • @kjc583 oops, soprano sax, not alto

  • i tear up everytime i hear this song.rip dan.

  • i'm 19 yrs. old and i freaking love this song. :)

  • My ex husband and I both loved this song. I wonder now how he feels about it. Back then it was a masterful piece of art we appreciated. Today it's something different for me. You see, today I wonder what will happen when that day comes that we see each other for the first time since he walked out of our 25 year marriage. For me, I know that every memory will come flooding back. For him, I'm not sure. I heard this song yesterday for the first time since our split. I cried like a baby. True artis

  • When music was still music. Not like the garbage thats around today.

  • This makes me think of my first love........I wish I could get a chance to see him once again.

  • why do they play this song from god mainly during Christmas and not every day???

  • The master story teller/songwriter. No one better!!!

  • storytellers in music are dead.....its sad

  • After my first love left me, I ran into her three years later at a bar. I had been married a year now and my wife was with me, but she didn't know it was her. A very small part of us still loved each other, and this song came into mind. You really don't know what to say or do when that happens.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • Me and my wife are surfing Youtube listening to the smooth rock. Me the Brit Pop Geek and her the 70s Rocker Babe but we come together when it gets smooth. Love this song.

  • was watching a horse training video and heard a fogelberg song. So I said to myself, where the heck is he. I've seen eddie money, america, and BJ Thomas at the New York State Fair. Where is Fogelberg?? Then I read his Wiki. Sorry. Guess all these great artists seem to be put on a shelf and can just come out any time. Something to keep us guys going to the doctor, right?

  • Even Dan admitted he thought this song was a bit hokey at first, but the more he worked on it the more he thought "Hey, I think I'm on to something here." Almost a million views here so it looks like Dan was right.

  • Ah, this song reminds me of my "first love"-we reunited once after our 3 yr relationship, but only for a very short while-have never been able to locate him since, but do know he is still out there w/ out me-this would be our story if we meet again-miss you DP, Vink ;) :)

  • Just one simply amazing song... tears and goosebumps every time.

  • 30 years ago I said goodbye to her, goodbye cause she said she'd rather have an abortion than ruin my career(if she ever got pregnant). It hurt so much her saying that, from that moment on I knew it was over. haven't talked in years....she has seen me and my wife and she has never walked up to say hello. I thought I knew her. The pain is still there.

  • I really wish i could play this song on the tenor saxophone............:'(

  • This was my & Bob's song! THANKS DAN! MISS YOU SOO MUCH! xoxox

  • Holy shit this guy is my 3rd cousin....

  • Wow, just Wow. What a powerful song. they dont make em like that anymore.

  • You know you're getting old when your generations storytellers start to leave us. Where are the new storytellers? Maybe the stories were told right the first time. Songs just dont touch the soul like they used to. Maybe I just miss the "good old days" too much. Life seemed so much simpler then.

  • @old55dude You are absolutely right! This generation is truly deprived of the storytellers: James Taylor, Carole King, Dan Fogelberg, Chicago....will always be on a different level. What a shame. Life was very much simpler and better in my opinion. Signs that this age is drawing to an end.

  • @old55dude Well said :)

  • @old55dude Totally agree with ya Man... :-)

  • @old55dude So so true. He was the best. Were not getting old, the truth is they were the good old days..

  • @old55dude right there with ya!

  • @old55dude Check out Skip Ewing and his music, I think you would like it.

  • You know you're getting old when your generations storytellers start to leave us.

  • This is my favorite song in the world!!!! It takes me back to my first love.

  • I think this song has happened to most people in some form or another.

  • When I was young and needed a reason to know why she did not want to be with me- I now know why! -RIP Dan You"re years we"re a friend to me.....

  • Love this song. It is so visual in my mind the whole story of the grocery store, frozen foods, she spilled her purse, the snow coming down and then turning into rain.

  • This song reminds me of my very first true love. Still brings back memories of her.

  • There is a web site that tells what songs are about. It says that after Dan died the woman the song is about came forth. She said they did meet and talked for about 2 hours. She did not comment on her marriage but divorced her husband shortly after the song came out. He was a phys ed teacher not an architect.

  • This song is a true story. It happen in the mid 1970's but written 4 years later in 1980 or 81

  • I can remember the first time I heard Dan's music I was 17 a senior in High school and I was a fan that very first song ! For some reason his music always spoke to me in a way very few musicians could. 30 + years later I am still a fan and yes his songs still make my eyes go to a far away place as an old girlfriend once told me. Thanks Dan Thanks for the soundtrack to my life......

  • such a situation actually happened between my husband & his ex-girl. They ran into each other in the market, had an affair, his ex-girl married her an Architect. So they rekindled their 'flame' and had more that a few drinks and late night together ... Perfect song for a perfect old lang syne ...

  • GREAT SONG!!

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful classic. The sheet music for the piano part for Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.

  • This song is gold...pure classic gold

  • I would love to have a moment where I was back in school! Love this song!! It is beautiful and haunting just like the other person here said.

    Memories and music are priceless!

  • This song just reverberates in my soul. How many lost chances, lost faces, lost people come and go in our lives. The lucky ones seize the opportunity and never let go.

  • I miss him so much...in my college days, he was, although never met, a lover, a friend, a teacher. A blessed creature. Love you forever, Dan.

  • this song tells the story so vividly that you can visualize it. Very few songs due that.

  • This brings tears to my eyes 'cause this dude's name is Fogelberg.

  • RIP Dan

  • The last time I saw Tim alive was 1981, the year this was popular. For you, Tim. I will never forget.

  • Me too!! It brings back so many memories at this time of year!

  • NERD!!!!!

  • always a great song for this time of year...

  • Had to see this on New Years Eve.

    This song will last forever!

    Peace...

  • Very sappy song that invokes mawkish memories with couples that met in the early 80s

  • @southport97 so why the hell are you watching it?

  • @vegas787

because southport97 likes this song but wants to act cool so he talks crap.

  • This reminds me of a friend of mine. We can't be together, but it doesn't mean i can't dream of us being together.

  • @Medic3128 I hear ya!

  • every christmas eve i slip off and listen to this song........ it's exactly what happened in my life.

  • what a great song writer i had the pleasure of seeing him live twice . he definatly pulls at your heart strings. run for the roses is another great song and not to forget leader of the band.reminds me also of harry chapins a better place to be dont make story tellers like this anymore.

  • incredible

  • You have to have lived this kind of experience to really appreciate this wonderful and haunting song.

  • I used to hate this song, maybe like the critic before me... Now I love it and it makes me slow down and think about mine and sone others' mistakes of the past... Thanks Dan, I know you can hear me.

  • i love this song! makes me cry and smile

  • @HankFisher13 u r a idiot

  • Christmas just isn't Christmas with out hearing this at least once.

  • 25 years after I last saw her, we met again earlier this year. And now just a few months later, I am going to marry her. For the last 25 years, I thought of her every time I heard this song. Every time I heard this song, I cried with tremendous sadness because of what might have been. Now, when I hear this song, I cry because I am so very happy and because of what our future holds. I am a very lucky man.

  • @mtfergie, that is truly beautiful. Best wishes on your new beginning!

  • @mtfergie your story touches me. I have always loved this song. I would love to reunite with 1 particular person just once to see how it feels and if it feels the same. Yours worked out and you got the chance. She is also a very lucky lady!!! Good Luck!

  • @mtfergie Your story is mine. Only it took us 29 years. I thought of her every single day we were apart. But she had said "don't call" and like the young dummie I was back then, I didn't. While in a way I regret the years apart, I can't regret the two wonderful sons (by another woman) I got to raise along the way. She's never been able to have kids -- would it have been different for us? We'll never know. Like you, I am a blessed and happy man.

  • @mtfergie same story for me. almost year for year, mine was 35 years.

  • @mtfergie Only the best will survive with time......Dan you will be here forever

  • @mtfergie lovely story, it made me cry... so glad you have a happy ending, I wasn't so lucky, but I drink a toast to innocence for you.......

  • @mtfergie Great story mate all the best for the future.

  • Met my old lover this year after 25 years. I expect it to end up as in this song but i will see if there is any flame left. Thank you 2010.

  • This song takes me back to a girl, a time and to pain so deep that it craters me to this day.

  • What a great song by a great artist and story teller. I miss this kind of music that actually says something besides how some little girl or little boy wants to do nasty stuff to someone.

  • this song was always one of those "Little Rare Gems". Beautifully expressed , Thanks Dan and the rest of the band.

  • This song reminds me of a dear love I had in my life, I think of him every time I hear it. We broke up and years later, a similar situation happened with us. We hooked up and got serious again, til his ex-fiancee showed up and wanted him back. I lost.

  • My first kiss was to this song many moons ago...

  • Miss you Dan. You've been a great inspiration in my life!

  • Heart and Soul! Ultimately Timeless! Dan you are the Man!

  • "We tried to reach behind the emptiness but neither one knew how.

She said she married her an architect. He kept her warm and safe and dry. She would've liked to say she loved the man but she didn't like to lie. I said the years had been a friend to her and that her eyes were still as blue, but in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw doubt or gratitude."

What a poet. Just as powerful as in 1981. AVE ATQUE VALE!

  • Makes me cry....memories...been thru this one...oh well, the memories, I will gladly keep!

  • "Just for a moment I was back in school" The best lyric ever written ( 9 words that evoke such emotion in people) Rest in the wonderful peace you deserve Dan !

  • Great Dan Fogelberg Tribute Song - search "Full Moon Memories"

  • This is a timeless masterpiece by a poet whose work speaks to so many of us. Tthis will still evoke bittersweet and poignant memories for people decades from now, a beautiful legacy. Thank you, Dan, and thanks for posting this.

  • Just for that moment I was back in school........ and felt that old familiar pain...wow that was really poignant. This is song really moves me.

  • Wow, I haven't heard this song in forever. Ran across it when I was doing a top 100 countdown of the songs of my birth. It was ranked 79 in 1981, btw. :)

  • I miss you Diane

  • I have heard a lot of songs and great music from all over the world in my time and travels. Not only is this a great song, the live performance is just as good (in my opinion) as the original and that should say a lot about my feelings of this song because the original is a masterpiece. Great lyrics, great musician and writer and one of the greatest songs (so beautiful and powerful) I have ever heard!

  • This is beautiful

  • if this doesn't give you goose bumps and make you feel a little sad, you might want to check to make sure you have a pulse....rest in peace dan....

  • This song remember me, Laurie Conwill, Christy Lott, Lela Weems, Karie Eschen, and Carrie Payne.and Joy middlendofnf.

  • i remember this playing in the mall december 2007 while i was x mas shopping and when i got in the car they announced his death and they where playing tributes

  • The saying is true: ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG. He is with his father, the Leader of the Band in Heaven now, still writing songs and performing them for all the other angels up there. You'll be loved forever, Daniel Grayling Fogelberg.

  • R.I.P. Dan. Your music timelessly lives on.

  • Always loved. But even in my middle age, this so applicable to relationships. Loved him!

  • This song reminds me of the old days when all I did was play video games didn't have a care in the world. I played with my cuz but he's in the navy now and I'm working worried about school and girls I wish I could stop time and dust off my SNES and play DKC sometimes but maybe later I suppose. Rip Dan best song of all time in my opion I'll see you again some day in heaven singing this awesome song.

  • Dan was God's gift to us miss him alot

  • Saw Dan at Santa Clara University in California back in 1979. After the show, he pitched his tent in the Campisi-San Filipo quad. Good times! This is one of my favorite holiday songs...'Just for a moment I was back in school...and I felt that old familiar pain...and as I turned to make my way back home...the snow tur-ned in-to rain!' Great clarinet solo at the end. Have been in similar situations. Really relate to this song. God bless you, Dan.

  • @Peoria3165 It's a straight soprano sax not a clarinet, by the way.

  • such good memeroies RIP old friend
