She did not comment on her marriage but divorced her husband shortly after the song came out. He was a phys ed teacher not an architect.

While in a way I regret the years apart, I can't regret the two wonderful sons (by another woman) I got to raise along the way. what a great song writer i had the pleasure of seeing him live twice . he definatly pulls at your heart strings. run for the roses is another great song and not to forget leader of the band.reminds me also of harry chapins a better place to be dont make story tellers like this anymore.

25 years after I last saw her, we met again earlier this year. And now just a few months later, I am going to marry her. For the last 25 years, I thought of her every time I heard this song. Every time I heard this song, I cried with tremendous sadness because of what might have been. Now, when I hear this song, I cry because I am so very happy and because of what our future holds. I am a very lucky man.

@mtfergie Your story is mine. Only it took us 29 years. I thought of her every single day we were apart. But she had said "don't call" and like the young dummie I was back then, I didn't. While in a way I regret the years apart, I can't regret the two wonderful sons (by another woman) I got to raise along the way. She's never been able to have kids -- would it have been different for us? We'll never know. Like you, I am a blessed and happy man.

This song reminds me of a dear love I had in my life, I think of him every time I hear it. We broke up and years later, a similar situation happened with us. We hooked up and got serious again, til his ex-fiancee showed up and wanted him back. I lost.

I have heard a lot of songs and great music from all over the world in my time and travels. Not only is this a great song, the live performance is just as good (in my opinion) as the original and that should say a lot about my feelings of this song because the original is a masterpiece. Great lyrics, great musician and writer and one of the greatest songs (so beautiful and powerful) I have ever heard!

This song reminds me of the old days when all I did was play video games didn't have a care in the world. I played with my cuz but he's in the navy now and I'm working worried about school and girls I wish I could stop time and dust off my SNES and play DKC sometimes but maybe later I suppose. Rip Dan best song of all time in my opion I'll see you again some day in heaven singing this awesome song.

Saw Dan at Santa Clara University in California back in 1979. After the show, he pitched his tent in the Campisi-San Filipo quad. Good times! This is one of my favorite holiday songs...'Just for a moment I was back in school...and I felt that old familiar pain...and as I turned to make my way back home...the snow tur-ned in-to rain!' Great clarinet solo at the end. Have been in similar situations. Really relate to this song. God bless you, Dan.
