  • Just want you to know that I've watched this video at least 15 times. It never gets old to me and I pick up on something new each time. The same goes for you're Tangerine Dream video and the Wig-Wam videos. Dig it!

  • @ollierulez That's real cool to know!

  • @dereckvon Great intro to psych rock. Have certainly added to my wish list.

    Groovin' in the Bluff,

  • sweet collection man :)

  • I love this one. I will buy every one of those that I see. I also prefer the originals! So cool. Peace Dereck!

  • verry cool ,and informative thanks!

  • Psychedelia *____________* !!

  • @psychupmelodies Nice!

  • @staaarboy Cheers!

  • Really enjoying you and the vinyl community's vids. Longtime collector myself. In reference to Rhinoceros, "Apricot Brandy" was in fact also used in the early 70's for several yrs. as theme-tune on British radio.

  • @GalaxyRover1020 Thanks for sharing that fact and thanks for watching!

  • @dereckvon - Cool Dereck, nothing earth shattering as far as trivia goes.

But our types revel in these tidbits :D

  • ...and I thought I had a lot of records.

    your collection is just awesome!

  • GOOD JOB KEEP UP THE AWESOME GOOD WORK !!!!!!!!!

  • @theshatnerman4242 Thanks!

  • Thanks for showing The Fort Mudge Memorial Dump I have never heard of them but they sound good. I will have to check them out!

Do you have the Music Emporium it's a great psychedelia pop album!

  • @Kiwizig I have it on cd. Gentle Thursday is a beautiful song and a favorite.

  • Oh, and I actually have an original cassette copy of the "Satin Chickens" Rhinoceros album, not too sure if that tape would even still play....

  • @jeffthrow6892 A cassette copy, coolness!

  • @dereckvon --- I'm not really into collecting cassettes, not like vinyl & CD's, just happened to stumble onto this Rhinoceros tape probably back in the '80's at a discount store's tape bargain bin. And I couldn't believe that such an old, probably early '70's vintage cassette was in there!! It is in a plastic, black box with the Elektra label glued on, & makes a big deal of it being an "Ampex" tape......just a cool find......

  • @jeffthrow6892 Most definitely a cool find.

  • Man........you absolutely know you're stuff, no doubt about it!! Hard to comment on all the great albums you showed, some I have, some not. I agree with you 100% on both Zappa & "Trout Mask Replica".......unfortunately, Trout is just a little TOO strange for many people, I've told friends that you need to embrace the strangeness of that great, unique album!! Anyway, I have & love the Chambers Brothers, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Aorta, etc., I'll have to look into some of the others.......

  • @jeffthrow6892 Good to hear from you!

  • Great stuff as usual Dereck, I know very little of it but stuff to look for in my travels. Thanks!

  • Members of Rhinocerous - Danny Weis and Michael Fonfara - went on to become mainstays in Lou Reed's band in the 70s. Fonfara played with him from '74-'80.

  • @mg196 Cool and thank you. Never made that connection although seeing their names on Reed's albums.

  • @mg196

Michael Fonfara and Danny Weis were also members of the Toronto Canada band "Blackstone"...their only LP was released in '73 on the "GRT" label titled "On The Line"...good stuff!

  • Hi Dereck,

I just saw my East Side Kids UNI video response here a moment ago. Then I posted it somewhere else...and it vanished here. Must be some strange YouTube rule..."one video response per video" or something like that.

Anyways, I removed that other response, and tried to re-add it here again. Could you please check your video response inbox again?

    Thanks :)

  • @drprogensteinphp I will check it.

  • Nice vid Dereck.

Actually, that band is called The Hook, the album was titled "Hooked". It was their debut, and they were a 4-piece. I've always preferred their 2nd release when they were reduced to a 3-piece. Remember that Ironside episode? Bob Arlin was also with The Leaves

I still own all that psych UNI (MCA/Universal) stuff on vinyl; Yellow Payges, The Hook, Giant Crab, Warm Dust, East Side Kids, etc. I'd like to add a couple UNI related videos of mine here as video responses if that's OK.

  • @drprogensteinphp And indeed I know the band's name, one of those things that happens talking off the cuff. I was waiting for the correction from someone, it's all good. And yes, I quite enjoy the video responses so bring them on at your leisure. Hopefully you can see through my videos that I am very easy to get along with. Feel free to connect with related videos.

  • @dereckvon

Yes, you seem to be a sensible, rational, very well mannered person. I like to think of myself as being the same...though my ex might disagree :)

Do you remember that episode of 'Ironside" where The Hook appeared? I also own the two albums by "The Leaves", which "Hook" guitarist Bobby Arlin was also a member. Are you familiar with them?

    Cheers!

  • @drprogensteinphp Yes, I completely forgot to answer that. Good memory. I don't have any of The Leaves albums, cool to know that Arlin was in that band. I mainly know of The Leaves version of Hey Joe. You are truly encyclopedic.

  • @dereckvon

Pretty sure if you search "Ironside - The Hook" or something like that here on Youtube, a clip from The Hook's appearance on that old TV show might pop up too :)

  • Dereck, again your collection and musical knowledge leaves me speechless.

I have a quick question for you: My cousin Joe Santangelo was in a band called 'Brother Fox and The Tar Baby'. They released there self titled album back in 1969 on Capitol records and were kind of garage psychedelic rock. I never got to know him because he died when I was 7.His dad {now 97} just gave me a sealed copy of the album. Did you ever hear that record? I agree with you on Zappa! He was brilliant. Thanks, Rob

  • @Paneeks1960 Hello Rob. I have read about this album and seen the cover. I am about to listen to the album, you know how music is so instantly available now. Being that the album is on a small label you have a very nice collectible there. I'm listening now to the song "Old Ladies" and it is real nice. Nice writing, playing and production going on here. Thanks so much for getting in touch and sharing this.

  • Dereck you got some dope psyche LPs man.

  • @mrgalactus Thank you kindly. You certainly would know looking at your stacks. :-)

  • What's the name of the album of "Heavy Guns" or..i can't find anything...please help :)

  • @ibanpr The Album is titled Hevy Gunz - Dope on Dope and Dope Doops. it's on the Enterprise label ENS-1022.

    Good luck.

  • @ibanpr

I'll upload something from this LP in the near future featuring photos/scans of my album jacket etc. The LP came with a cool poster depicting a dude holding a double barrel shotgun firing a HUGE double barrel reefer. Pretty funny :)

  • @drprogensteinphp Cool. Mine didn't have poster.

  • @dereckvon

It's basically depicts the same image found on the front cover (centre) of the LP jacket, only enlarged.

  • @drprogensteinphp Thanks a lot man! Can't wait to hear it, cos it looks interesting :)

  • @ibanpr

I haven't played in around 25 years...Lol. I just pulled it out a few minutes ago. I totally forgot it had the poster inside. I might frame it :)

Gotta get around to ripping the vinyl at some point.

  • @drprogensteinphp I just popped it on and it is as silly as I remembered, and therefore quite cool.

  • • Wow - I'm a delica, your a delica, we're all delicas. A genuinely stirring edition for me. Many delightful treasures here, the Harper and Rowe equates to "The_Fredric". . . all are written very well and quite polished for the hit parade... and those "Fort Mudgies" - Many Thanks DVH, for bringing them all up in this two thumbs up edition(as they all are).

  • @56jensen Having fun with it.

  • Comment removed

  • And another gaggle to add to the endless list...Thank you, sir! I need to get that Fifty Foot Hose reissue. I was havin flashbacks! Ha!

  • @TheGrecianThunder Flashbacks, that's always a good sign.

  • Amazing collection! I love pysch, but I've only scratched the surface. Need to dig deeper. :)

Thinking about doing a genre video myself, where I show psych, bubblegum and sunshine pop!

  • @stephan73 I look forward to it.

  • Let me ask you, do you consider bands like King Crimson (earlier), Can...ect-psychedelic? Me personally, I think they are or on the verge. I know bands like Can have the title "Krautrock" genre...but I seem to classify them and King and many others (like you do Cheer) psychedelic. Your thoughts?

  • @nathanrmorales Oh yeah, that music is psychedelic as all get out if you ask me. I would blur the lines of some genres more if it were left up to me.

  • So much awesome stuff! You truly are a wealth of knowledge. I can only hope to scratch the surface of what you show. That Blue Cheer I need to get. Been meaning to for a while. Thanks for the shout out!

  • @bigstar1000 Much respect.

  • Killer man...blowing my mind.

  • @nathanrmorales Mine too. ;-)

  • I love Curt Boettcher. the Millennium and Sagittarius are wonderful. Song to the Magic Frog is one of my favorites. Glad your trip went well!

  • @Blueecm Thanks, glad to be back.

  • Love how that record said: "Come have some tea with the tea company." Innuendo from that period was brazen I bet Tipper Gore would have had a field day.

  • @dvdude30 It all seemed so innocuous at one time...

  • Haha, your videos are always great! Speak your mind!

My nearby record store has a Rhinoceros LP for like $3 I'll have to grab it.

You and bigstar got me on such a Psych and Kraut Rock kick.

I was always afraid of Trout Mask- seemed beyond my comprehension like 10 years ago. I've been digging Safe as Milk- it may be time to revisit.

  • @MrFartboy79 I'd say it's time to grab both of those records you mentioned. Thanks for the solidarity.

  • I had those two Chambers Bros. records at one time. I would put my speakers on the window sill facing the street and turn it full volume, I thought EVERYONE should hear the Chambers Brothers message.! haha Thanks for bringing back that memory. Welcome Back! Glad the trip went well.

  • @EarlofSuave308 Right on my brother, right on!
