The shunter is the man who oversees the movement of trains in the depot. He sets the routes and gives permission for trains to enter, leave, and move about within the depot.
The train goes through the wash under its own traction.
must say there is a interesting track layout at west ruislip. Also isnt it better to wash the train before it goes into service and not just when its going to the depot?
Some trains leave the depot via the Ruislip Gardens exit which hasn't got a train wash, so it makes sense to get them on the way in. Some will get washed on the way out as well. Some get their windscreens washed by Romanian gypsies when they stop at traffic lights.
so a shunter pushes u thru the wash, how does it get uncoupled?

I've labelled the shunter at 2mins 55 secs into the video, standing outside his cabin.
There are two shunters on duty during busy periods. One for each end of the depot.

Nice...why is there a gap in the audio before entering the wash?

London Underground uses special "non-conductive" water. They buy it in bottles from Tesco, and employ a man to empty them into the wash tank.
