In the U.S. nobody claps unless prompted to do so. Everywhere else they clap. I'd rather less clapping cause I like to hear the music as much as possible. Just an observation. To each his own.
There was a bitch clapping wildly at a Porcupine Tree show. They played "Time Flies" and she thought her damn flamenco clapping would fit the music. I could have killed her!!!
@Camasdrumline: Saw them last autmn in Bremen, Germany. Katatonia was the opening act.. great band but unfortunately somehow the engeneer fucked up the whole sound. A shame! But Porcupine Tree were absolutely brilliant! It was funny.. before they started playing some dude went across the stage with a vacuum cleaner for like 20 minutes! He got an applause afterwards. xD Didn't know Steven Wilson likes to be barefoot on stage!?
But yeah.. the whole show was a rush. Want to see them again!
If clapping made the song better, opeth would have put it in the song in the first place. Why are they doing it, to show that they can clap in time with a section in 6/8?... wow!
the levelling of the guitars is perfect on this song live. not something they always get right, although i have seen them twice and they are incredible. arguably their greatest track ever, this
Took me so damn long to get used to this album. I bought it automatically as I am an Opeth fan. I am still in love with Deliverance/Damnation but I listened to this album while driving and it was amazingly great.
deliverance, dare i say it, as it is still a masterpiece, is their worst album to date in my opinion. my personal favourites: 1. still life 2. blackwater park 3. my arms your hearse 4. ghost reveries 5. watershed
I respect your opinion and agree that Still Life is a great concept album. I love the Moor! My top five: 1Deliverance/Damnation 2. Orchids (true classic) 3. BWP 4. Still Life 5. MYYH. And the rest is up in the air. I would like you to elaborate though on why Deliverance is bad.
deliverance is far from bad! it just isnt as consistently great as the rest of their work for me personally. orchid is truly great i agree. the moor is one of their best songs! i learnt that the other day. moonlapse vertigo is my favourite on still life. it is hard to pick their best song tho. maybe blackwater park or hessian peel, i dunno
Samsung Digimax L50. I have to point out that sounds were awesome on concert, way the best I have heard in Teatria. Acoustics there are poor in general, but somehow O just sounded great, still.
Kiitos! Loistavasta videosta. Olin itse opethin seinäjoen keikalla ja sait palautettua mukavasti keikan loistavan tunnelman! Seuraavaksi provinssiin opethia fanittamaan!
but after all i think people there are NOT pleasing you Qppi or anyone else but themselves so everyone has their own reaction and it's not any worse than yours.
I wanted to point out this whole issue, because there are many others too who get annoyed for that braindead clapping in moody moments, not to mention the band itself, trying to keep on time.
If claps go "in sync" with the song, thats ok, but there were moments that were not that ok, luckily just few so it wasn't bothering me so much.
Check the "Opeth Havana Cafe" video; that's what I'm talking about with this issue.
I think that the band expects some kind of reaction from the audience and not just stand there like trees. I was at Kaapelitehdas and it annoyed me so much to see people just standing there with their arms crossed like they're waiting in a fucken queue. So at least in this case people were doing SOMETHING. (en ole suomelainen)
I really am into headbanging and mosh pit action when there is heavy stuff going on, but such emotional song with enormous feeling, I really can't see what is it, to clap hands? And in the worst case, out of sync... god's sake, there are bands like Oasis and others for that "yeah, we are having good time and for that we are clapping our hands" stuff.
Sometimes silence from the audience is a sign of their complete attention and enjoyment, I think mike and the guys would understand that. Hand clapping bugs me particularly, though
stop fucking clap out of time!!!!

Oh, it was also funny how they tried clapping along to the piano fill which is in free time lol.
jamma246 2 years ago 4
the worst is when the tempo changes for a silence moment, they begin to scream ruining the magic, but what the hell, it´s opeth dude

This gig last about 1 hour 40 minutes, absolutely fantastic performance all the time.
Only thing that sucks are those who clap their hands, and are out of sync... that's how to ruin the perfect moment from others.
