The samples you use sound fuller because it has more high range! Like a little hat on each sample. If you layer the sounds that Propellerhead has in their soundbank, it also can sound freakin' nice! Just a tip! Nice video though! Propz
thanks so much man for making these videos. It was JUST what i was looking for, how to learn to dilla beat it some more.. man if my drums sounds like his one day, im gonna throw i big up in your direction! Nice job brother!
Meh, parallel compression? Same compressor for all drum parts? Better using a line mixer and some splitters and you can eq and compress/limit ect each individual sample.
only one pattern plays in redrum ONLY THE ONE WHICH IS SELECTED EVEN AFTER I SET UP DIFFERENT SOUNDS ON DIFFERENT PATTERN ONLY THE SELECTED SOUND IS PLAYED THE SOUNDS FRM ALL THE PATTERNS DONT PLAY
this is not your basic compression technique it is actually called parallel compression. Parallel compression is when you take a copy of a signal and over compress it usually with a 4:1 Ratio or higher and then mixing it back in with the original signal. You are achieving parallel compression via the sends of redrum which sends a copy of the original signal out to be processed by an fx device. Use the return level knob on the 14:2 Mixer for mixing in the desired level of the parallel comp.
Hi, if I may add an idea to avoid clipping. Increase the ratio to perhaps 8, maintain the threshold where you had it, slightly increase the attack from where you had it, increase input gain slightly, perhaps by a decibal or two......I think that should do the trick while at the same time giving the kick an even THUDLIER sound. Lemme know if it works!
@sirflex10 i have fl and reason 4. i think fl is only good, if u actually purchase VSt plugins and what not, but reason comes with it all. the only bad thing about reason is u have to know what ur doing cuz its more complex haha
@LTrainStudios Professionals use layered sounds anyway- the fact that it has a hi hat in it is irrevelant in pop and hip hop beats as long as it fits throughout the sequence being created. What you're laughing at is what the pros use.
@jonplife I beg to differ. It's like loops, I don't use loops because you are limited as to what you can do with them in terms of processing and variation, this is just the same.
Your time signature explanation is actually wrong. Time signatures are A/B, A being the number of clicks per measure and B being the type of click. Types of click are 4th notes, 8th notes, 16th notes, etc. So, 4/4 actually means four 4th notes per measure. Other time signatures are 6/8, 3/4, 5/4, 7/8, 16/16, etc.
@Zildjian921 no, to explain it better in 4/4 time signature the first 4 is the number of beats per bar and the second 4 is what length is one beat (4=quarter). so there are 4 quarter notes per bar.
kicks are best compressed with around a 4:6 ratio, a medium attack and a a slightly quicker release to let in the 'punch' and then close the gate but whatever you think sounds best will do...
I have loads of reason refills in all styles trust me something for everyone here as well as sample C.D's/ Loop Kits/ Loop C.D's/ Tutorials and much more.
I have all the factory sounds from every drum machine made in the last 20
years including the AKAI MPC range with MPC programmes. All available in wav or reason refill format. Trust me, you want it I got it I have everything! Contact me for a full list!
Mix' your Drum samples ! for that kick from a pro package if you hear it it has a Hi hat on it and more bass than the Standard u exampled on .. sow if u mix' it a little bit .. it will come up like those ;) Propellerhead Reason Is AWESOME !
i make all my music on reason too...and im about to get signed to a label, not to be bragging or anything, but im sure a lot of people can learn from me and they can give me some tips as well. but i would like to make video tutorials of my stuff. how do i make a video like this?
use steinberg recycle, thats a realy good sampling program, it will export loops as .wav files, or as .rex files which u can use in the dr rex loop player, or as an instrument in the sampler. u can even break it down into individual hits and use the separate .wav files as drums thru redrum.
not bad. although u dont seem to have a grasp of time signatures. the 1st 4 denoted the number of beats in a bar. the 2nd 4 does not mean it's repeated 4 times as you suggested. that denoted the type of note, which is repeated in each bar. for example, 4/4 is 4 crotchets. 4/8 would be 4 quavers. 15/16 would be 15 semi-quavers in a bar. 9/2 would denote 9 minims.
a minim is 2 because it is half a semibreve (a semi breve being 1). a crotchet is a quarter (4) quaver an eighth (8) and so on.
err when you were turning the compressor off you should've been bypassing it because all you were getting through was the un-sent kick which is why it was quieter.
The kick that he bought has a Hi Hat in it! I'm not sure he hears that, he is just listening to the thump which comes from the fact that it probably had compression from where it was originally sampled. (to which he is now adding more compression)......and so we go on and on sampling and sampling.......
Bars and measures are the same thing, saying a measure contains 4 bars is quite stupid actually. In any time signature the top number indicates how many beats are in one measure and the bottom number indicates which note value constitutes one beat.
You have all of your ReDrum channels going into channel 1 of your mixer. If you hit tab, which will flip the rack over to the back, you can individually place each redrum channel to the each mixer channel. This will give more stereo sounding drum tracks, believe me!!! And you can individually program each track to have certain effects. After you do that create another mixer for all of your synths and instruments. And presto! A studio quality sounding drum kit...
That's great, but I find it better to put each of the Redrum channels through any effect then use a line mixer to adjust their levels. Then send its output to one main mixer channel; this makes it look cleaner in the main mixer, and easier when mixing a finished track.
thank u! i definitly needed this demonstration... and you shoulda sampled the loan moar guy and put it in a track lol... woulda been a nice pad or somethin lol...

a) Great video
b) Everything on the Internet is NOT free (unless you wanna risk illegal downloads). Better to buy products than do the illegal downloads.
c) Re the Kick having a hi hat, I don't think that's the issue, his kick was improved tremendously, so null point.
