I like it it has been one of my favorites almost since I joined youtube, I want to say I couldn't find any other people who played it on youtube. =) gracias
beatiful piece. a bit bad sound on video, but the soul in brahms reaced me with this performance. i think this piece has the potential of triggering deep emotions when played "right".
Felicidades Emmanuel. Con todo respeto, sugiero una búsqueda mayor del sentido armónico de la pieza. Las direcciones cadenciales y los cambios de tensión al modular o hacer inflexiones. Los cambios de registro son importantes también. Pero tienes buena energía.
I think his interpretation is nice. I enjoyed it to a certain extent...however, i do agree with your teacher. There are some parts that is more complex than it looks. You shud have convinced your teacher to give u some tips after u got thru the notes :D
The middle part (F#min) is more complicated than what it looks. In the begining of that section, you should be carefule of the middle voice. Most pianist would show the middle voice in the repetition.
I appreciate your effort with this musically difficult piece, but unfortunately it is too premature.
i'm sorry but can you please explain more on the middle voice? because i don't really understand the meaning of it and i might be making the same mistake as the video-poster did as you pointed out, thanks
I appreciate that you love this piece. I do too! I have always felt it to be very intimate - almost the type of piece you play to yourself. It is full of so many hidden and sun-kissed treasures. Play it a little more "inwardly" perhaps and let the phrases live longer. You appear to be very sensitive....I look forward to hearing more from you! Best wishes.....
...sorry, I actually have to agree with your teacher...your tone colour is one-dimensional most of the time - very critical in Brahms! - and in many places you're obviously just indulging yourself - sometimes even bordering on the aggressive.
I think you need much more expression in this piece. Remember that the melody is in the right hand... it sounds like you are giving both hands equal expressive weight. Technically, its very good... but, in my opinion, you are not caressing the most beautiful lines of the piece-- either that, or you are rushing them (ie. 3:03). This is, of course, just my opinion... :-)
I like to think of it like clouds...sometimes its a big cloud sometimes only a little one and the sunlight still comes through - All types..it underlines the harmonic subtlety, without destroying the onward flow.
Yes, true there is the possibility of mauling the theme and it loosing its shape if you 'over-romanticise' it. But this is Brahms. If this isnt romantic - what is?? I suggest that you avoid rhythmic alteration..which can bend the line out of shape, instead experiment with your tone colour, moulding the phrases not with accel's and rit's (though you can do small ones) but by withdrawing add adding weight.
you could consider floating off some of your phrase ends a bit more to vary the sound colours. Withdrawing tone can sometimes help in this regard - but dont do it with regular pattern or it becomes boring. at the opening (the second statement of the them is a possible place) also at 1:20 you could be more 'magical' with the tone colour..lead the listener to a special place.
i tried to not over-romanticise the theme, especially the first time around, but i do understand what you mean about the second statement and the 1:20 part and i agree with you.
muchas gracias! me da mucha satisfaccion tocar esta pieza, es un gusto que la hayas disfrutado. proximamente aprendere el resto del opus, espero lograrlas bien

Good point about the F#min section, kambizpa! That is exactly what I would have said.

Una versión bien lograda. Gracias. Brahms es difícil en su concepto, captar su ánimo al componer. Sigue, está excelente.
