  • YOU OUTTA LISTEN TO I'M SENDING OUT AN SOS OFF OF THIS ALBUM

LEAD SINGER HELEN BAYLOR. WHO SINGS GOSPEL NOW

  • I went through all my old 45's and found this song I forgot all about. It happens to be on my karaoke site so I plan on doing it soon!

  • o.v. by Crusaders only, no more "Jazz" since 1971...

  • love both versions

  • this is a good version, but I think the better version is by the Jazz Crusaders.....

  • always loved this band........ vocal chops were crazy

  • Correction...i said Blackbirds, but i meant the Jazz Crusaders..

  • oohh shucks...now ive been thrown for a loop...i have always heard the blackbirds version of this cover. i never knew this existed. im totally shocked and awed...how and where can i get a copy of this? preferably on vinyl, if at all possible. thanks.

  • AAhhhhhh yeeeahhhh!!!! This is the Jam!! I was in High School in Bayside when this song was being played. The organ solo at 5:11 is the shhh****t!!

The harmonies are REAL!! NOT auto-tuned like these fake artists.

  • This song popped in my head and I found it. The class in this generation is not like this music. It is so lacking.

  • Oh yes, keep it!!!! Top,top tune!!

  • Memories of Mr. Chip's in the Rhineland German Valley (lol) TY 4 Post !

  • AHHH the memories this carries...Just wonderful music cannot be duplicated.

  • now this is real music.

  • there is so much happening on this record , both musically and vocally!! A classic!

  • THIS ALL I JAM!!!!!!!

  • Awesome cut!!! This group was bad!! Wow...we had great music from our generation. Thank God

  • BT4Life, Where Y'all at! Jersey City Stand Up, my Bad BT4Life we neva sat down.

  • I don't care what anybody says, Helen Baylor can sing. Check her voice out in Always There. She is fine in that picture too. But I have to respect her growth and positive changes she has made in her life since this project. Sis Baylor keep that same ole feeling.

    Peace

  • This is the SHIT.

  • yup!!nice

  • TOP TOP TOP music... how could anybody do anything but listen and move yer body to this... I find it impossible!!!!!! LOST IN MUSIC....

  • Now that's music!!

  • @naturefreedom. U got good hears !! I think kanye used it too in a track with a certain fonzworthy (check it out and thank me later ;)That said, thx for the upload

  • Louis Patton(the faggot on the right) let Little Richard fuck him in the ass for money. lmao.

  • @bdp37dr1 How do you know?

  • never heard this group before, though may have danced to it in the Disco days..really cool groove ,reminds me a bit of Dr. Buzzard in it's strangeness.which is good.thanks for posting.

  • summersbr1--That's cause these yunguns' are Bangin' & Swagin' for a minute! Their music is not made for Future Listening...it's made for what they call--Baby Momma Drama!

  • in the day i was at the mike, living that music with the blood sweat and tears that came with it or should i say made it.....

  • thank you for posting my long looked for group, i had looked all over the internet thanks again

  • i love dubstep!

  • Great year to be born and a classic fav of my pops....too fly and too smooth...

  • WOWWWWW!!!!!

  • This used to be THE CUT!

  • AWWWWWWWWWE Man!! Yeah!! Thanx for the post!! I FEEEEEEL IT!!!!!

  • This song sounds like something R Kelly Sampled for "Step in the name of love?

  • Awesome Groove! Right up there with the Crusaders' version, but sweeter because this one is more vocally enhanced. My dad used to play this NONSTOP. Thanks for the memories, Veewee!

  • YouTube is truly a blessing.. Go from one song, to another, to another.. each time discovering a new band from the Golden Age of Music... I would have never heard of any of these awesome bands if it weren't for YouTube. Makes E-Diggin' almost like cheating

  • @luxurykush I agree. YT wasn't made digging old classic songs but I'm thankful that they're up here.

Thanks to EVERYBODY who shared from their record collections so we discover or remember these great songs!

  • Isn't that Mikki Howard on the album cover?

  • @jd7779311 No. That is a female vocalist whose name at that time was Helen Lowe. She now goes by Helen Baylor and records gospel music now.

  • @OGGilmoregirlz1 Thank you.

  • @jd7779311 YEAH SHE WAS SO YOUNG

  • Killer!!

This is the song that Martin Collins used to spin continuously on Chiltern Radio back in the days which got me into Soul Music!!

  • Why?! Oh WHY won't Rhapsody or iTunes of somebody put this on CD?!!! I want it!

  • @msmykel1 the first 2 Side Effect albums were released on one on CD by Fantasy records. this is on that 2nd album "What You Need". u can probably find it on amazon. I'd also Highly recommend getting the CD of Pleasure's first 2 albums "Dust Yourself Off" and "Accept No Substitutes". those are even better than the Side Effect albums. SE sang on some Pleasure songs, while Pleasure were the band on some SE cuts. Both were produced by Wayne Henderson of the Crusaders, who did the original of this.

  • WDAO....Dayton! Southwest Ohio's soooooul GIANT! Ten- seventy- seven FM!

  • This is the kind of music that gives you goose bumps back in the day til now!!!!

  • A fav of mine :)

  • Take flight material.... puts ya in a soulful trance yet makes ya want to get in ya ride & just cruise for eternity!!!!

  • Nice old school groove right here! Thanks for sharing sweetie!

  • Nice old school groove right here!

  • I had the opportunity of meeting Side Effect in 1976 while during a concert in LA, nicest guys, Louis, Greg & Augie!

  • beautiful song

  • beautiful

  • I'm 39...I still have my Side Effect LP from when I was 5 years old...lol....back in the day, I wasn't into sports or riding bikes....I received albums for Christmas...still have them, too...lol

  • WOW! Memories, memories, memories! The mood this song sets is in/undescribable! Thanks for the post!

  • This is SICK!!!! but you gotta admit the Crusader's version of this track is sicker

  • @lulvis I just checked out the Crusaders version and i must agree w/you. Joe Sample is amazing!

  • @ASBURYPARK999 I could listen to that cut over and over again.

  • Now this is a great musical arrangement, and I'm gonna keep that same old feeling!

  • This is the feeling!

I saw Augie Johnson's Side Effect @ a Hollywood Sound Studio 2 weeks ago.

Augie said he was preparing for a tour. They sound great!!! WoW. They signed a copy of the New Album "It's About Time" for me.

    Keep that same old feeling...

  • Im keeping it man im keeping it.

  • What a TUNE!!!

  • veewee u total legend! gotta buy a digital turntable this weekend just to download the vinyl for my ipod

  • this is as smooth as this 12 year old scotch that i am sipping on!!!

  • WOW!!! Rare Sound '70 , :-[] Good!!!! Tank's

  • The woman in the front is the great gospel artist Helen Baylor.

  • @birdsong40 My album credits read it's Helen Lowe, unless she changed her name.

  • I believe her last name was Lowe at the time. She did not meet her husband James Baylor until she signed on with HeatWave. She also sang back-up for Chaka Kahn

  • She also sang in place of Chaka (1 song) on the album Rufus did called Numbers after Chaka left.

  • Reallly? I can't find it on YouTube. I have to look that one up! Thanks

  • Smooth groove

  • one of my favorite songs

  • I thought this was the Blackbirds??

  • Wow! You brought memories I forgot about. Lol. Keep up the good work.

  • Great Great Great! You went deep into the vaults. Thank you

  • We had a young couple that moved across the street from us and the man use to sit in the front and play this and get his groove on, well when I got grown I ran into that man at a club and I got to feel that same ole feeling, I have never forgot this song! Thanks for the post! Good Memories!

  • It is amazing how songs like this can take you back to a moment in your life. It really brings back good memories.................Thank God for the music of yesteryear because today's music gives us nothing

  • True that summersbr1. The weed was good, a dime was four fingers, people was still fighting with their hands not guns. We seemed to have more love for one another in the 70's. What happen? I could never figure out where'd we go backwards. Your right music now, there's no new sound.

  • I will repectfully disagree with you. Todays music has no creative value and it would be hard to pick any song today that would make great old school music later on down the road. I understand more than you think i do. There are a handful of singers today that can actually sing ( Jill Scott, India Arie and the talented Alicia Keyes). Where are the songs that allow a man to hold a woman in his arms and slow-dance with her. And you are right when you say i dont like it. Not much out there.....

  • Well yes I understand where you are coming from but a lot of talented people aren't always on the mainstream believe me there are extremely talented people out there underground like The Foreign Exchange an very amazing group also Darien Brockington that cat has talent....What I'm sayin' is you may have to search a little harder for the certain kinds of you music you like or that reminds you of the music you use to love and have a passion for

  • VicMcFlySmith-u and summersbr1 have good points BUT IMAGINE THIS....

    n the '60s and 1970s TALENT,SHOWMANSHIP,MUSICIANSHIP WAS EVERYWHERE !!!

IT WAS THE ONLY OPTION SO IT WAS UNDERGROUND,ABOVE GROUND AND EVERYWHERE ELSE !!

U DIDNT HAVE TO SEARCH FOR TALENT !

CONCERTS & LIVE PERFORMANCES SOUNDED AS GOOD AND SOMETIMES BETTER THAN THE STUDIO VERSIONS !!

    1970s= FUNK,SOUL/R & B,GOSPEL,BLUES,BLUE-EYED FUNK,AM SOFT ROCK,ARENA ROCK,JAZZ

self-contained bands, vocal groups AND THEY ALL WERE GOOD!

  • @nola2laca spot on

  • @summersbr1

i would actually say alicia keyes is not talented. her style is contrived and learned and her voice average. she is young and very pretty and knows how to play the piano. that's it. i hear no soul at all in her voice nor in the way she plays the piano. she does not stand up against the artists of yesteryear at all. jill scott, india, yes. big yes on jill scott.

  • @jpa6791, well i think most artists are influenced by another artists style and either imitate it or pattern a segment of their style from it. I think we can respectfully agree to disagree. i think she does sing with soul and plays a good keyboard, which is almost nonexistent in todays talent pool

  • @jpa6791 I agree. I must say that the baby-boomers had the better generation for music. I am not ashamed to hate on my own generation.

  • @queeneastcoast You don't have to. Just look for great music like this, there's loads out there little heard of. Happy hunting!!!

  • excellent theme.....side effect ...the best....congratulations for this video of the 70s

  • SO SWEET-SO DEEP

  • I think Wayne Henderson (formerly of Crusaders fame) did a cover on this.

  • the Crusaders did it first..

  • I have the Crusaders L.P. of this - this Side Effect sounds sweet...!

  • 1976 hot summer nights and a smooth joint of columbian gold with an ice cold beer an my gal under the stars listening to smoooooooth funk

  • @nukarr now i like that

  • this song reminds me of 1580 kday in Los Angeles. We had a great time in Los Angeles County in the 70's...disco was in...

  • Oh, yes!! Wow, this takes me back to happy, carefree days (senior year in high school). Such sweet memories... thanx so much for posting this!! (why can't music be this good anymore?)

  • talk about not having a worry in the world. If I can go back to these days, I would be 1 happy camper. AND YES, I DO HAVE THAT SAME OLD FEELING. And it feels good.

  • Happy memories ..

  • Dope!!!! 90.9 KTSU Favorite. Donald Byrd joint.

  • Its cool my grandpa still makes music, IM PROUD OF YOU WAYNE HENDERSON

  • Really! Are you his grandson?

  • yah

  • Tell him we at Catalina's say hello

  • Classic jam!

  • now tell me if this dont put a smile on your face....

and a spring in your step

    lovely!

  • looking for the dreaming by side effect dont know what album if anyone has it please let me know please

  • I've always loved the horns on this joint.

  • This is a musicians groove. We got to get the new generation back to playing live. You can tell R. Kelly 's Step In The Name Of Love has that "Same Old Feelin"

Peace and Happy Holidays to all.

  • This was sampled by Lord Tyriq an Peter Guns on that song from 97 " Deja Vu" remember " We get's down babay for the crown baby"

  • You're off just a little. Deja Vu samples the entire track from Steely Dan's "Black Cow". I think the name of the album was Aja.

  • Oh it sounds a like though. But you do remember the song that I'm talking about an those rappers they were in a duo group. Lord Tyriq an Peter Guns

  • Yep, remember it well. Cool video with the flying camera.

  • I definitely remember. That was my JAM my freshman year of college. I think that song came out at the beginning of 1998.

  • YEP I think it was 97 cause I was in the 5th grade lol just a little 11y.o. shorty An I got the album from a guy who stayed up the street from me. Matter fact I still have that album. I wonder whatever happen to those guys.

  • peter Guns has a son that raps now... Cory Gunz.

  • Get outta here! How old is he?

  • he's 20 check him out

  • That's what's up!

  • You are correct on all counts!

  • I always thought that the Blackbyrds sung this

  • Hey, your thinking about "Walking in Rhythm" moving in style! thinking 'bout my baby, tryin to get home. I had fogotten about this version until my hubby reminded me about it. I play "The Crusaders" version over and over again. You never get enough of perfection.

  • this is as smooth now, as it was when it first hit; they should have when further than they did.

  • Its amazing how these old school songs take you back in time to where you were. At disco,or home just chilling listening to your albums. KEEP OLD SCHOOL ALIVE!!!

  • Man this is IT! ... I love this groove.

Feels like the heartbeat of the Soul.

It is great "hustle" music -agreed!

  • Beautiful Song, They just did not have enough hits to establish themselves as one of the many great Black Groups of the 70's.

  • Very nice!!!!

  • Great "Hustle" song back in the day.

  • This is a classic, like Riding High by Faze-O it'll never go out of fashion and sounds fresh and new everytime I hear it. The entire album was great.

  • wicked tune i love it.....

  • funky.. and silky smooth!

  • I had this album over 30 years and this is the first time I seen the album cover since, It brings back many memories from my teenage years.
