This video brings back so many memories...Thank you so much for posting it... I was 6 years old when I first went on this ride...It was so real...and I was AMAZED...Mom and dad perished in a car accident the same year Disney closed this ride down.. sort of ironic...
Thank you...There is not a day that goes by that they are not in my thoughts.... I miss them on a daily basis...Just can't get over it...I have moved on gotten on with my life as they would have wanted me to... but still the pain is there and will never go away... The saying "Time will heal all wounds" is not a correct statement...It doesn't heal anything...Just makes the pain more manageable.
@scott93257 Yes I can't imagine what that would be like. I'm glad, though, to hear that you understand that there was nothing you could have done to prevent it and you are getting on with your life. My thoughts are with you.
Was the WDW version of Mission to Mars identical to the DL one? I only went on it at DL and only when I was a little kid. I hardly remember any of it except that last part about the "close call" scared the crap outta me! Ahh good memories... ;)
btw, why does nobody like the Stitch ride that replaced this? I thought it was adorable!
@DisneyMagicDreamer85 The attraction's purpose is to play on the senses to induce scares out of guests. Stitch toned down the attraction to the point where there was no shock or scare factor, and this eliminated most of the fun Alien Encounter, the predecessor, offered guests.
@moongleams ha it was bad enough they stabbed us with getting rid of the ride, but to see they used the shell of AE and replaced it with a crappy ride was just twisting the knife in the wound. =[!
I miss these type of rides... I know Disney is about entertainment, and as kids we knew it was lame, but it was in Disneyland... and we learned something.

missliss14 this ride is still at disney its at the epcot park n its different because it seats 4 n each person has a job n it feels like ur actually inside a rocket ship going to mars cause u feel all the excitement but its still really fun to go on
well, no. This "ride" was in the Magic Kingdom where Stitch currently is. At that time Mission:Space was still Horizons. They both have the basis of space travel, but are nothing alike.
Not at all, other then the space part lol, But the 2000 movie Mission to Mars is, its actually the Second attraction to movie transition Disney did, the first was Tower of Terror
Continuing, watching this brings back lots of memeories of riding this ride with my family back in the '80s. I even have some vague memories of riding this when it was a "Moon mission" or something like that. Thanks for posting.
This ride sucked.

@scott93257 I am so sorry to hear about your parents. That must have been the worst year ever for yourself.

I remember this ride from years ago and being so blown about it when I was younger. Go Disney!!!

This is sooooooooo boring! Being scared out of my mind or having Stitch burp in my face is 100 times better than this!

lol i could tell the theater was alien encounter!
regularshow99 1 year ago
@regularshow99 Yep. Alien Encounter replaced Mission to Mars in 1994 at Disney World. At Disneyland it was replaced by a pizza restaurant. :P

This was one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland. It's great to see it again. Thanks so much for posting!

Anything is better than that horrendous Lilo and Stitch ride. They should have at least kept Alien Encounter.

@drknmunky AHHH the Liio and Stitch ride! That thing was freaking BRUTAL!! Not to mention weird as hell :\

@drknmunky I LOVED Alen Encounter! It was a worthy replacement of such a great attraction like this...unlike Stitch. >:(

Sound like some of the music from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea while they are showing the surface of Mars.

I remember riding this when I was little. I was so scared of this ride! I sat on the very edge of my seat because I felt them moving.

Didnt some kid die on this ride?
CloverFieldDreams 3 years ago
Nope...
maybe you are thinking of Mission: Space at Epcot?
matpez 3 years ago
Correct. A child did die on Mission Space at EPCOT center.
Agentsub 3 years ago
No, this ride didn't do much of anything. The seats would vibrate and that's all it did (except run videos on the ceiling, floor, and walls).
