I agree with you. Although she had chemistry with the others, Todd was the only one who truly valued her as a person. They connected on an emotional/psychological/spirit­ual level. Remove the sex scenes from the Crave and Jovan relationships and I honestly don't think there would be much to talk about. Tangeline's relationship reminds me of classic romances by Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen. They wrote great love stories that focused on intimacy (getting to know each other) and not sex.

He will always be attracted to other women, but she should feel like she is special to him and no one can take her place. Todd always made Evangeline feel like no other woman could compare to her.

I agree. I think the major difference between Todd and John is that Todd ALWAYS understood Van's value. He knew she was a treasure and he was willing to do what he had to do to get that treasure. John loved Van, but he didn't understand her worth, he thought he could flitter back & forth and she'd stay put. The JOLIE's relish in the fact that Gnat won John. She didn't win him, Evangeline set him free cuz she knew she was much more than the hypotenuse of a right triangle. Van knew her own worth.

Exactly. One of the reasons I don't like OLTL is because of their treatment of Evangeline. Evangeline was an amazing character with a lot of potential however, TPTB constantly did subtle and not-so-subtle things to demean and devalue the her. I am not a John McBain fan but, I would have supported the pairing if he was shown to value Evangeline and his relationship with her. I wouldn't even have a problem with the breakup if it was done in a way that respected their relationship.

For example, if they broke up because of different goals, values, and/or they just drifted apart as individuals. However, they wrote John as still having feelings for his ex which made his relationship with Evangeline seem like it was just a rebound relationship, nothing serious. I don't even know if John ever told her that he loved her. (Maybe he did, I don't know). As far as I know, OLTL never had such a storyline for its other popular female characters: Jess, Blair etc.

Besides Tangeline, I love the pairing of Lily and Cane (Lane) on the Y&R. TPTB puts them through a lot of unnecessary and ridiculous story-lines that hint at obvious backstage politics but they never try to suggest that Cane loves and cares for or could possibly love and care for another woman as much as he does Lily. So, to me, their relationship is special and meaningful.

Sorry for the long post, I'm passionate about romance and want to see it done the right way.

I hear y'all when it comes to Todd's degeneration over the past 18 months, and I don't even watch OLTL anymore. It's just sick, a total waste of both his character and Evangeline's. The only silver lining I can see is if maybe, since Vange's is technically still in a coma, one day tptb will allow her to wake up and come back into his life. He was at his best with her influence on him, and he started to slide downhill again once she split the scene. Yeah, he--and the show--needs her badly.

I haven't watched oltl since 95, but the only way i'll start again is if REG comes back as Evangeline. I accidentally got wrapped up in Jovan/Crave/Tangie clips for the last week and I'm HOOKED. But there's no way in hell I'd watch without her on. The appeal and chemistry these three couples radiated all had to do with her. I just don't think another actress could fill those shoes...back to YT to finish catching up :-)
