Thanks for posting this great Bruce Springsteen classic. The sheet music for Roy Bittan's wonderful piano part on "Born To Run" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
Billy can't help it. He sings JUST.LIKE.BRUCE. He's a natural mimick, like McCartney. When Billy did a duet with Ray Charles, he sounded exactly like Ray. He does a duet with Tony Bennett, he sounds just like Tony.
@mywotzone Why? If you're going to try to sound like the original artist, then what's the point? You should do a cover only if you can bring something different to the song. Otherwise why bother?
Why is everyone arguing? Both Billy and Bruce are different, and both kick so much ass. I could never choose between Only the Good Die Young and Rosalita, or Piano Man and Born to Run. Both are classic rock legends, no need to fight kiddies...
"Twice the artest" Bruce has won 19 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globe awards, 1 Academy Award-Also is in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Song Writers Hall of Fame. Billy Joel has only 6 Grammy awards. Billy has no golden globe-No Academy award. Bruce has had the more impressive career period the end.
You ought to know who wrote Just The Way You Are, Honesty, This Night, Tell Her About It, Uptown Girl, New York State Of Mind, The Longest Time, Leave A Tender Moment Alone, The Stranger, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, I Don't Want To Be Alone, River Of Dreams, Allentown, Pressure, Miami 2017, Say Goodbye To Hollywood, River Of Dreams, We Didn't Start The Fire, Lullaby, Piano Man, Captain Jack, Rosalinda's Eyes, Stilletto, An Innocent Man...
Billy Joel is also in both the R and R HOF and the SW HOF and has a Tony Award.
He's also sold a lot more recs than Bruce Springsteen, and hasn't even put out an album in 16 years. If we say that the "best" artists are those with the most awards from elitist, snobby organizations, then we're leaving out personal preference and the true meaning of music in general. Not to say Bruce doesn't have an impressive career or great music, but he's not more impressive because he has won more awards.
Billy Joel is one of my favorites. You can not base recored sales on an artist being more talented or "better." Britany Spears has sold over 35 million albums... Does not mean a thing. To me she has very little talent. So to say Bruce has more accolades then Billy or Billy has sold more records-It's a scratch. You have your opinion and I have mine, I agree to disagree with you.
@dmich428 Also your right, Billy has not put out a record in 16 years and that is not considered a good thing. There is something to be said of longevity and still having some thing to say. Bruce is still putting out great records and selling them by the millions and appeals to all generations.
Billy Joel's music is perfect. The melodies, counter melodies, and saxophone are used to a level of expertise that Bruce Springsteen or anyone else could only dream of.Billy Joel also has the ability to completely change his voice and style with every new album. When every song you ever produced is perfection or close to it you burn out a lot faster than someone who puts out albums twice as fast with a bunch of mediocre songs and only one of two great songs on each album.
I'm happy you have an opinion-just like me. Its nothing more than your opinion. Defending Bruce's work is like defending a lion or a gorilla in the jungle-No need to defend a gorilla or lion. The Boss's work speaks for itself. I said my peace on prior posts. Cheers
Look up billy joel. Says he has sold total of over 100 million records. Look up bruce springsteen says he has sold over 120 million records. This means billy has sold less then 120 million and bruce has sold over 120 million records. This means bruce has sold more total records then billy. What do I think? Good for billy but THE BOSS still has him beat total albums sold. Not to mention he has 20 grammy awards which crushes billy. Not bad for a guy who comes from NJ.
@kobe9985 Remember, Billy quit touring the world and making new albums while Bruce has carried on. For years Billy was outselling Bruce by miles in his heyday.
Jungleland vs Just the Way You Are, Born to Run vs Movin Out, Rosalita vs Only the Good Die Young, Spirit in the Night vs Scenes from an Italian Resturaunt, Atlantic City vs New York State of Mind,Youngstown vs Allentown, Blinded by the Light vs It's Still Rock n Roll... Advantage Bruce. As far as being twice the artist Bruce is, maybe sizewise, that's it.
Can't get over the picture quality here, Wen. Amazing what you can get from a tiny handheld digital camera these days. Thanks for sharing. Definitely a 5 star rating, too.
I love how everyone's arguing about who's better!
This is like Batman and Superman joining forces-- enjoy it!

Two great musicians do a concert together. And all youtube comments do is complain. THE WORLD IS WRONG. THE WORLD IS INCORRECT.

@MegaObserver1 If you're going to do a cover you should sound like the guy who wrote it as much as you possibly can otherwise it sounds like shit...

@observer9670 Well like Roy Orbison is dead , So someone who sounds alike needs to sing his song if they can do it at a respectable level...
Jim Croce is dead and no one sings his songs hardly which is really ashame cause he was one of the best who died so young.......

An Oscar is the same thing as an Academy Award.
Bruce Springsteen has been nominated for four Grammy Awards this year also:
-- Best Rock Song (a songwriting award)
"Working on a Dream"
-- Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance
"Working on a Dream"
-- Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media

Tickets to see this once in a lifetime concert around $1000. Seeing Billy Joel screw up the words to "Born to Run" at 1:13...priceless!
