  • thatsa nova, or a ventura, a chevelle is not a hard car to tell

  • damn that chevy just stood up....damn...i gotta go clean myself

  • Thanks chongwong for the compliment about my mum, but get you mind out of the gutter. I will ignore your forwardness. On another note, in slow-mo the near lane car could be a Chevelle. The GTO with a blower is hard to see, but appears to be a '65.

  • Near lane is a Ventura, look at the tailights

  • Had a '69 GTO 400 cu. in., and saw a few Chevelle 396 402 cu. in. along the way. That's a Nova in the near lane, similar to my mom's - bodywise that is!

  • @Cronkite2008 your mum has a nice body.... introduction?

  • Wow...That was damn close to being one less classic muscle car left in the world.

  • isn't that a Nova?

  • No Botard it's a 68-69 body style Chevelle and by that wheelie i'd say a small block 350, 355, or 383...

  • Dude, youd have to be a retard to say thats a Chevelle. It is a nova or as stated before the similar body style of a ventura. Learn your cars

  • @icemankg12345 looks like a nova to me

  • Comment removed

  • Pontiacs Rule!!!

  • yea that wasnt a chevelle.....i thought maybe it was supposed to be a firebird on the right..

  • Muscle cars were made for the hard working middle class man. He needed a car he can drive to work and take the family out on sunday drives. Fridays and Saurdays were for him to show off a little. Muscle cars are the 1/4 horse not arabians.

  • thats a Nova not a Chevelle...

  • Its not a chevelle. chevelles didnt have hide away headlights.

  • THATS A NOVA.....geez ever heard of wheelie bars??

  • thats definately not a chevelle

  • chevelle?

  • hype

  • Must agree with Steve340, the "Chevelle" in question is definitely a Nova or Ventura. Take a close look at the bumper, tailights, rear quarters and c-pillar. Even a glimpse of the front end says Nova.

  • No, that's definitely a 70 to 72 Chevelle. The rear quarters are unmistakable.

  • You sure thats not a Nova in the close lane? or maybe a ventura with the tailights, hard to see Looks like a Nova to me

  • He was letting off the Chevelle before the wheels (more like oil pan slammed into the pavement)

...If the owner of the Chevelle would have invested in a simple set of wheelie bars, he would have outrun the Pontiac no problem.

  • you musta lost your mind aint no damn chevelle beatin any pontiac. Its not even possible.

  • Chevrolet (a subsidary of GM just like Pontiac) -- is the performance division of choice for GM. That's why we see the 572 big bore engine (top crate engine) -- modeled after the Chevrolet design and not a Pontiac, or Olds, or Buick moron.

  • 572 my ass I've never even heard of that as a stock engine. To bust your bubble The best engine chevy had was the 454 that produced 450hp and even that still isnt enough to beat a pontiac. The GTO is the original musclecar. Pontiacs can't and won't be beat. Goats will eat anything. Ask anybody you want when them hemis were kicking chevy's ass left and right Pontiac was right there stomping a mudpuddle in the hemis.

  • Oh so it's 'stock' were talking now (lol)LS6 Chevelle: low 13's...Faster than any stock Pontiac of the day. The Buick GS would run to 1320 feet quicker as well.

...Even then, anybody who could twist a wrench somewhat didn't run a stock car. Google L78 396 Chevelle and a set of headers (bye bye GTO'S)

  • low 13s thats all LOL dude the Ram Air III GTO ran low 13s but the Ram Air IV even though it supposedly had only 5 more horses than a Ram Air III was a entirely different beast. I dont want to have to go into the 455HO it outperformed the Ram IV. 396??? dude a stock weak 400 powered lemans will give the 396 a good run for its money. The GS is a bad car too but it won't beat no pontiac.

  • Ram Air III? You don't even know GTO's that well (obviously). The 'Ram Air IV' was the quickest factory Pontiac of that era. Here's the facts from repeated testing from 69 --

(best numbers they could pull from the car)

    0-60 -- 6.6 secs

    1/4 mile -- 13.90@101 mph.

    (with M21/ 3:90 posi)

  • That's no where even close to the Mark IV LS6 numbers which are 13.1's off of the dealers lot. Power figures were embellished; results weren't. Even Jim Wahgers (PR man for the Goat) will admit it was far from the quickest of the cars of that day.

The L78 396 was the same 425 hp engine Chevrolet introduced in 65. Bolt headers on and it would out perform the top GTO's.

  • Excuse me -- Jim 'Wangers'

  • Thats what I said the Ram Air IV is faster than a Ram Air III. A Ram Air IV is not as powerful as a 455HO that came in the 71 GTO Judge. That testing is wrong. 0-60 in 6.6seconds lol My crown vic will do 7.3 and it runs 16s.

  • 1971 455 HO --

    0-60 6.6 secs

    1/4 mile -- 13.97@107 mph

...and wtf are you talking about? All models across he board took a dip in performance from 70 to 71.

8.4:1 compression for the 71 455 as compared to 10.75:1 for the 69 GTO. You're not arguing with me at this point; you're arguing with documented history and fact. None of the GTO's could even touch the 70 GS stage Buick (they're all 'A' body GM's) -- Pontiac wasn't the best of them by far.

  • you sure do know how to take a legend and it into complete crap lol. You get your chevelle mod it do whatever you want to it and im gonna get my pontiac then mod it out. We're gonna have a race to see who has the faster car in reality.

  • you started off talking stock...remember? Chevrolet's ARE the quicker cars stock from muscle days. As far as modding goes, like I said '572' Chevrolet IS the GM crate engine (it ain't no Pontiac) -- Google World products while you're at it chief. Your arguments, like your goats fall short of what you claim.

  • I mean mod out a stock engine not a crate engine that they just built.

  • Didn't you just type "you get your chevelle, mod it, do whatever you want"

    ???

....And what do you think these big block crate motors are? -- they're based off of the Mark IV 'stock' cast iron big blocks. How about the all aluminum 427 Chevrolet Mark IV's -- Those were totally stock.

Yenko/Berger/Dana/Baldwin Motion -- those were all stock dealerships. Bill Jenkins went something like 40 plus wins in 67 on the strip with a 396 and won the winternationals

  • and anybody in this hobby that doesn't have respect for Chevrolet is a moron period. Chevrolet was the first to give this country a true sports car. Chevrolet was instrumental to keeping hot rodding evolving with the release of the small block V8 in 1955 (the most winning engine design in history) -- that same OHV, push rod design was under the hood of the winning Chevrolet in NACSAR this year and last.

  • you know something I was just about to agree with you for a sec. You almost had me convinced until you said this BS "anybody in this hobby that doesn't have respect for Chevrolet is a moron period;Chevrolet was the first to give this country a true sports car; BTW, the original muscle cars started in the 50's with the 300C's, Fury's and Studebaker Avanti -- not the GTO". You've completely lost any street cred you had.

  • When it comes to racing and innovation Pontiac takes a far back seat to Chevrolet (that is fact), I have more respect for Plymouth than I do Pontiac. BTW, the original muscle cars started in the 50's with the 300C's, Fury's and Studebaker Avanti -- not the GTO.

  • Like a said above you've lost any street cred you had bub. Any cars in the 50s are classic cars not muscle cars. Muscle cars didn't come in until 1964. Chevrolet is not the first to give this country a sports car. Yeah Chevy's a real innovation. The only real thing chevy did was copy everything Ford made. I have more respect for Ford than I do for Chevy. From all the races I've heard about and seen Pontiac has never lost to a Chevy so you are haha wrong.

  • you can stuff your 'street cred' up your ass. When I ran my car it was on a drag strip, not a public street. That's where you build up credibility. So tell us all again how the 71 GTO can beat ANY Chevy Mr. fast and furious. Which year GTO could stomp those Yenko and COPO Chevelles?

  • Im telling you man you can believe what you want but I've seen grand prixs, gtos, and trans ams leaving camaros in the dust. I have a buddy with a 70 chevelle right now with a 396 I saw him race my uncle in his 72 lemans and get blown out the water.I also have a good number of witnesses as well. I can't believe you actually think a chevelle can beat a GTO. lol The 69 Ram Air IV, 70 Ram IV 455, and the 72 455HO will hand any Yenko and Copo chevelle their asses on the street.

  • bullshit and you know it. Both are 'A' body cars (the same fucking car) put a cast iron big block in one, then put an all aluminum big block in the other, see which one is faster.

    DUH!!!

  • The Studebaker Avainti only weighed 3100 lbs and put out over 300 hp with a paxton supercharger.

The 62 Dodge Ramcharger would run into the 12's. The early sixties were an extension of the fifties. Pontiac didn't invent the muscle car, it just brought it mainstream.

  • LOL I dont think you understand the term muscle car. Muscle car is about performance and image not just performance. I can go get a Ford Focus and stuff a mustang engine in it right now and that won't make it a musclecar. Look at the corvette back then it had a the looks of a muscle car so it was called a muscle car. The new corvettes are faster better looking and sportier but you still can't call it a muscle car anymore.

  • what you just typed there shows how much you know; you can't even define muscle car lol

Vette is a 2 seater sports car.

Muscle car is the following: midsize body, big cube V8 and rear wheel drive.

1962 Ramcharger was a midsize, had a 426 wedge engine and was rwd. Hence it was a muclecar that predated the GTO. Plus was flat out faster than any GTO of the day.

  • Muscle cars have a certain look to them stock I cant really explain it to you but whatever it is, a studebaker and ramcharger sure don't have it. How can you actually consider that hideous ramcharger a muscle car lol. You can't be serious. Usually dodge makes great looking vehicles but that looked like pure crap, well an import.

  • of course you can't explain it to me; because you have no idea what you're talking about. Now you've switched over to how sheet metal makes the difference -- you're all about flash. You're not a muscle car guy, so you can stop pretending to be. What makes a muscle car is what sits under he hood; not how the car looks. That's a rice burners perspective.

  • thats what muscle cars were all about back then flash and looking fast. For me maybe it does come down to just the body design in which makes any vehicle a muscle car. The Ramcharger still looks like more of a classic car even though a fast classic car still a classic instead of muscle.

  • Plain steel wheels, max wedge MoPar engine, in a no frills 62 Dodge -- those cars look beautiful to me and you know why? Because that's a true super stocker from the 60's. You can't relate, because you're not a muscle car guy.

  • There are still more people that consider the GTO as the first real american muscle car because thats just the way it is. Pontiac made the name muscle car not a dodge or anybody else.

  • agreed. image + speed is what defines muscle cars.

  • oh and btw -- how are you going to stuff a V8 in a front wheel drive focus you ass hat?

  • I'd make it work damn it lol I'd make it work.

  • The 454 ls6 destroyed the pontiac sd455 on the street. They were very close but the torque of the ls6 always stomped the superduty 455 Pontiacs rarest and best engine

  • yea asshole I believe that.

  • The GTO whipped the Chevelles' ass! Pontiac Power!!!

  • Especially without any factory support.

  • Do you have a Pontiac brother?

  • Yup.

  • Pulling a wheelie like that is worth loosing a lil race

  • Woah Chevelle jump!!

  • SEXY! nice wheelie too,im a chevelle freak but goats got my vote any day!

  • Awesome!

  • if that chevelle didnt wheelie, this wouldve been a close ass race

  • As you can see, I like Pontiac's. But it looked to me like the Goat walked away from the Chevelle, wheelie or not. By the time the Chevelle front wheels hit the ground, the Goat was gone. I do like Chevelles too though.

  • who won?

  • The Pontiac.

  • Naturally.....
