There was an unnecessarily long amount of time in showing pictures for some that were clearly historically accurate. And for all of those complaining about Catherine, there weren't many portraits painted for her when she was younger, only when she was aged. The Czaress Catherine in Civ 4 is actually quite accurate for when she was younger.

England being the icon in media that it is, we often see games, cartoons and animated movies with english historical figures in a far more flattering appearance than their real one, especially the women.

Actually, not only when drawn. I just remembered that movie about the old queen Elizabeth, an ugly hag, but in the movie she's played by Kate Blanchett, of course. Not that I mind much, better to look at prettier things.

It was pretty complex...Allied deception, poor command structure, the collapse of Mussolini, and his decision to invade the Soviet Union and make the war on two fronts all contributed. All in all, he didn't do bad...he just made a couple of really bad decisions that turned against him. Though, he got a ton more accomplished than Wilhelm II did in the previous World War.

Both Fredrick the Great and Bismarck are far more important to German history than Hitler. Also, unlike Hitler, those leaders actually contributed to the welfare of Germany, rather than running the industrial powerhouse to the ground.

If you want to see Hitler in a Civ game, I think he was featured in Civ2.

@ficosaki288 But you have someone who literally changed the course of the world. Hitler would have defeated the US and Britain easily had he not, in hindsight, made the greatest strategic blunder in the world which was to attack the Soviet Union.

However, no one could have predicted Stalin would ramp up the war machine and industrial complex so fast. He literally made over 15000 tanks and over 30000 aircraft.

Had Hitler not sent those 4.5 million troops, we'd be speaking German today.

I have to say I agree with Canadarm. Only 5% of german forces were committed to the west and we still struggled to push the enemy back. Germany could have easily trundled straight over Britain and from there focus on taking down the US. And your comment about how would he get across the Atlantic he could have just used planes to paradrop in to make the initial breach then either continue paradropping soldiers into the safer areas or make a beach head and bring men across by sea

@MJtheKandyman It doesn't matter how many soldiers Hitler has, the English Channel is not trundle-friendly. Germany simply has no capability to get an invasion force to Britain in the first place. They have no suitable landing craft, no air or naval supremacy. In fact, they have massive naval inferiority, so even if they somehow get troops across, they have no ability to supply them. Against the US, all these problems are much, much worse.

Germany had no air or naval supremacy in the west because so much of its resources were being used in the east fighting russia. I think that without russia fighting against them germany would have had no trouble battering through British forces and once europe was taken america would be only a stones throw away (with the stone being a german army and the thrower being a load of aircraft and/or ships)

I also think that German paratrooopers would have been able to secure a sufficient beach head for the german army to land after crossing the Atlantic. @MJtheKandyman The problem for Germany was obviously crossing the Channel, and to have any chance of being successful they needed to gain air superiority. The Germans tried for a long time to destroy the RAF and failed thus making an invasion across the channel extremely difficult.

The RAF gradually held back and fought off the Luftwaffe and eventually gained air superiority over Biritain and the channel and obviously made a counter attack along with much help from the USA and Canada.

I know this, but we were discussing was if Russia were not fighting would the end result of the war have been defeat for the allied forces.Yes the Luftwaffe failed to destroy the RAF I think this is because most of its resources were used on Russia. Also the counter attack starting in Normandy and slowly advancing through France was only faced by half of the German army, the rest was fighting Russia, and the advance was still very slow. Russia won the war, the rest of us were just bit players
