even easier way take half a roll of steel wool, let it disolve in a bowl of Vinegar, takes about 2 weeks, take the liquid that is left and paint on the spot u want to rust, the solution goes on clear and dries to actual rust and looks perfect...cause it is actually rust.
how would you rust the chrome parts and make them have that undernieth rust look like the body has ? or it that impossible because you cant really paint chrome?
I cant get my rust to work I dont know if I am not putting anough on or doing it to thick? and when I put the rubber cement on and paint it its taken the iron paint off! What do you think I am doing wrong please help Also what grit do u use to sand the paint?

would you be willing to send a DVD of this video of you making this car? and how did you get the body trim to look aged? Where can I get the stuff to make my models look rusty?
i lost the video when my old computer crashed, the trim is painted with flat clear and then i put some black wash over that. the rust stuff was purchased at micheals craft store.
It would have been more realistic (not that it isn't) if youy made it so a fender or some thing was primered with only a little bit of rust showing through, and if a piece of chrome trim was missing on the door and maybe a cracked windshield or window, I do hot wheel scale models and to make it so mine "ages" I sand the body all over to get the shine of then I go to the metal in some spots, then I coat it an salt and leave it in the mud and dirt in my back yard for a year or two.
ummm no affense if that was a real car its too rusty to fix up try sale it for 300$ ill maybe put down an offer lols check out my video diorama and nice work bro
i grind the body from behind until it's paper thin then dent it. spray the body in primer so you can tell when the body is getting about to break through. you will see the plastic get darker the closer you get to grinding through
Nice work Jedi, ill have to borrow the SALT trick. What i use to get that look is to repeatedly WET the surface with solution and put it away WET for 12 hours.

dude that thing is sick! i would hav never thought of the salt and it looks so real, i hav the same model you used in this vid and now i regret not painting it like this. i like how you put the little signs on it and aged everything! although you could hav aged the rims and figured out a way to make the tires flat but other than that great job!
this guy is good man i wish i was as good as him and i wish i could find a 1957 chevy 2 door hard top for 500 now a days it is the coolest thing i seen in a while thanks for the posting
hi! I don't have any experience with model cars; I make miniature abandoned houses and would like to start making some (rusted) metal components. do you have any idea if it matters whether or not the paints you use are oil-based or not? I work with acrylics and I'd love to try your awesome technique on faux tin roofing :-) Thanks! (VERY cool vid, by the way :-))
Beautiful job and where do you find that brand of paint? Please tell me the brand of paint so I can put the salt and see what it would look like on my Nomad
and you will get a video on faux rust paint jobs...they use paint with actual iron in it and a spray that makes it rust in a few hours...real rust! its called a rust patina paint job and people use it to make stuff look antique
what do u sand the body with to smooth it out after it dries? and man u some skills brother this is awsome i am going to try my own i actually have a 66 mustang that looks like this but its real hahaha
pretty awesome technique!
