What gain have we made being there ? It will fall apart if we leave now or in 10 years...Its not really a nation, its war lords and tribes...Now if Bin Laden comes back into Afghanistan then send troops in to kill him...Iraq might stay together after we leave...More of a chance..But I think when Saddam was caught we should have claimed victory and left..We should worry about our borders and our corrupt government and its problems first..It didn't work in Vietnam and it won't work here.

There is a big difference between this and Vietnam. For one, this is not a former colony fighting for independance. Another major factor is that Afghanistan had a stable government before the communist revolution in the country. The warlords came to power due to the fact that the countries infrastructure was in ruins - the civil wars and Soviet invasion destroyed a great deal of the country. The best way to deal with the warlords is to build the country up so that a strong republic can return

This is Afghanistan, a "sovereign nation" who didn't ask for the USA to come marching in and rebuild their country. EVERY ONE outside of the USA knew that the Bin Laden story was bullshit , we knew it was an excuse to march in, just as Hitler marched into Poland.

let me explain it to you, since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan the whole country has been destabilized, and a fundamentalist ultra-conservative regime took the country over. Since the Soviet retreat nothing has been done to rebuild the country, and the combination of povery and Islamic extremism means that the country is a breeding ground for terrorism. Eliminating Bin Laden would not be enough - you have to rebuild the country as well

Sure I have no doubt the soviet invasion has caused all...But why do we have to rebuild there Nation back ? I think every American was for going after Al Qaeda and Killing them..But now that they have fled into Pakistan..I feel its a money Hole that we can't ever win at..It would make more since to leave and let them ( Al Qaeda ) let there guard down..I always said 100 Billion for Bin Ladens Head and let private militia get him !..They don't worry about being politically correct..its cheaper

lol I suppose that would be the easy way out.....however, I don't think it would solve the problem, only prolong it. Since the Soviets pulled out, Afghanistan has been a terrorist breeding ground. Even if we killed Bin Laden, it wouldn't make difference because the conditions with the country would just make a new one. And there is the basic point of why Islamic fundamentalism is a threat to the West - its not about what we've done, its about what we haven't done.

Your points are good ones...But I don't think we have the money to fight a endless war..Its hard for people to see victories in this type of war. I know no attacks since 9 11 01 shows, but 6 years of Nation building has led to a socialist agenda in power which is more dangerous to us than Islamic extremism..It made it easy for them to take power..If we end in hyper inflation we will not be able to fund any thing let alone a war..Socialism is very expensive ! Thanks, yes I agree with the way the country is, its hard to see how we can fund building a nation up, but I think that if we don't we'll have worse problems in the future. Especially if Iran gets nukes. We need to neutralize these threats before they get out of control

@TempestWriter We also need to go after the tribal areas on the border of afghanistan and pakistan, since it's a hot bed for insurgency. The taliban has already gone to war with the pakistani army and slaughtered them. Pakistan is so weak that i can see them falling under taliban rule, and pakistan already has nuclear weapons.
