This was the make and model of my first engine swap project in 1992. Good piece of junk car to practice on. Needless to say we botched the job in a few ways. I think I can leave that Hyundai running like a Swiss watch now. Good luck with it. Like you, I am into the "Oddball" models. Mid 80's buicks and such.
@studogs80 well you don't need to be a fucking asshole about it, and you heard enough of the fucking engine when I started it so why are you complaining? don't come on my channel and call me a faggot and expect me not to retaliate!
I had the 4 door 5 speed GLS version of this car (an 88 as well) it was a fantastic little car for getting around town and going to work. Use to commute in one for about a year till I got something else. Sold it for 800$ and regretted it later.... The little excel had all the options A/C, sun roof, 15 inch alloy wheels just to name a few. Oh well miss that little thing.
I also have a Hyundai Excel 88, even though I liked this car since the very beginning I never thought I would love it as much as I do now, this car is by far, one of the best ones made by hyundai, if not the best, I've received compliments about this car from strangers who have had one before, saying "take care of it, is one of the best cars".
For now I'm planning to fix every single detail n' let it as " just out of oven"
This car brings back memories. I had a 88 GL sedan. That car served so many members of my family for over 20 years. Love the chime and that huge clock in the instrument panel. Best thing about that car are the memories, having to warm it up for a good 10 minutes so u wouldnt stall on the corner, flooring the gas on even the smallest hills, driving with the heat on full blast when its 100 degrees out to prevent overheating. But man those wheel covers stuck on tight and loved those $10 fill ups!!
Ahh, brings back such memories. As our main car, we had a red Hyundai Excel 4 door hatchback for 7 years. Now, not a sedan, the 4 door hatch. That is one HARD car to find now lol. We had to replace a water pump and the clutch. Other than that, awesome little car, very sporty and stood out when we lived in a small farming town =). (If you drove somehting other than a Chevy, you were weird rofl)
my ant used to 1987 hyundai excel it had for doors and she gave it for free she missis the car i told about your video and she saw it and she was so happy
I did notice your heat riser hose was missing from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner. Fixing that would make the engine warm up better because carbs, and throttle bodies have to get warm air. Also its a good thing that you did not pick up that hitchiker (scarecrow).
Dont worry about people saying "Oh why are you driving or fixing a hyundai" most people who say that are clueless that hyundai's are actually pretty darn good reliable cars, Do your own thing and enjoy your hyundai, mine is like part of the family now, i have alot of history with it and it never let me down even in a blizzard we had in 1996 mine is a 1994 and i went thru it, went to work, etc while many other folks were stuck at home afraid to venture into the snow drifts. hah! =] cyas!
This car paid for itself in ONE year by reliably bringing me to work everyday and only costing me $6995.00 in 1994, Now almost 15 years later it still runs reliably and gets me around in state and out of state to visit friends family, truly the best investment ever, cheap money plus YEARS of reliable use out of it. These days its nostaligic to have one, kind of like having a VW Bug, people ask about it where ever i go. =] especially NEW hyundai owners. =] cyas!
That's great! I gotta do some more work on this, and fix the rust spots on it before they get any worse, and also replace or just remove the catalytic converter, that's why the exhaust is loud, and probably why it's not running right. the car never gave us any problems all the years we had it, my mom called it "The puddlejumper" ^^
It truly is a great car, to be honest the only people i ever see bad mouthing hyundai's are people who've never owned one, Why do you think hyundai's survived and have become such a success? because their cars were actually petty darn good for cheap money.
Ill have to replace the alternator and waterpump on mine now after almost 15 years, they still work, but the alternator is starting to lose charge ability, and the waterpump bearing is starting to make noise, still best investment ever! =]
Great car! I have a 94 excel, bought it new for $6995.00 in 1994 its 14 years old now, soon to be 15 years old, never spent much money on it just tune ups and gasoline, after almost 15 years only NOW are a few minor reairs needed, i need an alternator and a waterpump, mine is a 5 speed manual with a 1.5 liter engine great gas mileage, for many years $12 dollars paid for a week of driving, nowadays about $22 dollars because of fuel prices, ill never sell mine, 3 neighbors keep asking to buy it ;P
Yes, if you go to my videos and sort by "most viewed" the bus videos have the most views. Only one of them is currently operational...two need new carbueretors and one needs a new tire.
That is an awesome car! Small size and compared to most cars it's age, it's in great shape! Do you know what it gets for fuel economy? That is a very nice shade of blue...oh, how many miles are on it?
such a terrible terrible car. I'll bet yours is the only one that hasn't been crushed in your state!

@Taino187 the 94 model was dramatically improved. prior generation non fuel injected models are far less reliable and not as nice to drive.
