The four-in-hand doesn't always have to be that skinny, just wear a thicker tie and reduce the short end by another 2-3 inches. I personally like the asymmetry. I don't care so much for the full windsor. Half-winsor and four-in-hand are my personal favourites though, and the only ones I use. I'll try wearing a kind of wide collar shirt, and see how it is later.

I didn't like this full windsor knot. The fold in the middle (right below the knot) ruins it for me.  I understand that it's considered stylish, but I like my knots to resemble an isosceles trapezoid (bordering on rectangle), not an isosceles/equilateral triangle. Plus, that hourglass shape makes you look fat. So I prefer the "grade school" knot to this one.

What's your view on not totally undoing knots? Last time I did a full windsor, it took me 6 tries to get it just right. After that, I took all my ties, did a full windsor on all of them, and just loosened them enough to slip over my head. They're now hanging on hangers in my closet, and when I put one on, there doesn't seem to be any wrinkling from keeping them in that position. Can you think of any negative effects that can come from doing this?

This video I almost completely disagree with. The knot you tie depends on the collar you wear and the size of the tie as well as the width of your suit lapel. If you wear a full windsor with a slim fit suit w/ narrow lapels and small collar, it looks very off. If you have a small head, a full windsor may look quite strange. If you do anything other than a four-in-hand with a narrow tie(not slim) it looks ridiculous.

A narrow tie(not slim) may not fill the neck in a spread collar shirt regardless of the knot but the standard width is okay. But using the Full Windsor with any other combination of tie width or collar size is actually overdoing it because you are overfilling the collar.

I can't help but think of James Bond's quip that the Windsor knot is the sign of a cad.

In total agreement on tie knots They are best imo with symmetrical knots..I don't like to see knots not tightened or left to one side and I keep re-tying mine 'til I have both ends the same length (I think I'll take a chill pill LOL.)

The less complicated knots aren't out there for people who are too unfashionable to tie, for example, a full windsor, but they are much easier on your necktie.

Especially if you are wearing ties the whole day, the windsor will cause them wrinkles after a period of time. That looks very very ugly and is annoying if you have some favorite ties/ bought them for 50 euros.

And very important, too: Not every knot fits to all collars and ties.

I usually tie a four in hand when I wear a tab collar shirt,I always tie a full windsor when I wear a spread collar shirt,especially with french cuffs!! I usually tie a half windsor when I wear a button down shirt,I prefer a hidden button down shirt over the traditional button down shirt and I also like to wear the eyelet collar with a collar pin.I prefer long sleeve shirts when I wear a tie,I usually will wear a short sleeve shirt when I go tieless,especially with jeans!!!

I have never heard that the point of the knot was to be asymmetrical. But, it is possible. Even if this was the case, it doesn't change my mind about a symmetrical knot looking the best.

I exclusively use the three knots that you mentioned in this video however I somewhat disagree with your "review" of the FIH and HW knots. I find that the big bulky full windsor looks great with spread collars and trad. 3 button suits. However, the FIH and HW look fantastic with slimmer cut suits. I love the FIH and think it looks great when tied correctly. Also the fabric makes a difference. A think shiny fabric and a FIH look great. (see Obama's ties during the campaign.)

If you are having trouble with your hair, go to a new stylist and see what they suggest. It may be that you need to use a heavier product in your hair to control it. American Crew makes a bunch of different weight products to help manage thick hair. May want to try their product called "fiber". You can get it in most grocery stores or even Target.

Oh one last thing... Being a tall lanky guy with a short torso, I've been told that the full windsor draws the eye because it's so out of proportion with the rest of my body. That's why I do this weird mini-windsor... it looks like a full, but it's about half the size.
