This song is well before my time, and i must admit i listen to mostly progressive modern rock, or indie acoustic music.. but i love this song. I remember being a kid and seeing my parents listening to this as they would sit and reminisce their past together... They are now divorced and that has affected me alot. I Love both of them and wish i saw them more, im now 21 and on my own with my own house and can now relate to this song just like they could. Good song.
@AdamGreeby Me too man. Hadnt heard this song before so I thought id come check out the number one hit for when i was born. Been a while since i listened to Chicago.
This song should be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a exhibit showing what can happen when a key part of a rock band suddenly dies (Like Terry Kath with this band, Keith Moon with The Who, and so on and so forth) and decides to carry on. Like, does anybody remember ANYTHING that The Who did when Moon passed, apart from "Eminence Front"? Exactly. This is a song that Chicago wouldn't even THINK of doing 20 years ago. RIP Terry Kath.
When I "get real unfortunate", this is what I play in the last week of the fantasy baseball season. Other than that, I've come to terms with God and His outcomes.
when we both agreed as lover,we were better off as friend, thats how it had to be yeah thats how it had to be,wish you were holding me wish you were still holding me..Don't look @me Idon't want YOU tooseemethisway!!! @TheSkeptic1976 you can say that again, Growing up with this music was awesome, with out it I don't know what I would of done, THe music they come out with now, It is not heartfelt like the songs we grew up with find it harder to relate to the music coming out these days at least not like I was able to back then... maybe that is why it was a great time. No It was a Blast in a Glass!
I love this song. I fist heard it when I was 5, then 3 months ago, I heard it around 4 times on Sirius 80's on 8 on a trip to Pigeon Forge, TN(the entire vacation, not the trip). I can't get it out of my head, along with "Stop Dragging My Heart Around".
wow i feel like such an asshole... i know that as a teen, relationships dont last long.. but i dated some girl for 2months.. we broke up.. next couple days me and my bestfriend hooked up.. they hated eachother and i can only picture the pain that gave her </3
@summerdrewel04 Er, you know this song was written by Diane Warren, not the band, right? Really, if you think about it, Chicago in the 1980's WAS about money, in a way. Like, why would they rely on Professional Pop Songwriters to write their material for them? Think about that.
mid-to-late 80s Chicago is so different from the 70s Chicago. It's almost like 2 different bands. They went from a jazz/swing band to a bubblegum pop band, I am loving it though.
Champlin's best contribution to Chicago during his 28 year stint with the band. I'm a CHICAGO fan since Day 1...seen them play 50+ times since 1970. Lou Pardini does a brilliant job or picking up for Champlin. Lou's keys are great, as are his vocals...Make Me Smile, Dialogue, etc. Lou is having a ball every single night! What a pro! Nice work getting Lou Pardini, guys!
Well it is a beautiful and very passionate song. Obviously there is a lot of pain in the lyrics and the meaning of the song. I agree this isn't a group therapy discussion board; but a song like this can't help but stir up some painful memories for some people. I understand completely. They probably feel safe sharing their feelings here cause we all obviously like the song probably for similar reasons.
try being dumped and not even knowing you got dumped and than when you ask what happened..NOTHING! he disappears like a fart in the wind..3 months now..still have NO clue what happened..maybe it would be easy if they passed a law to make sure ppl were responsible "dumpers" like mandatory closure! LOL
@TheKOBELLA There is an excellent book called "He's Scared, She's Scared". What you describe is described in the book exactly as a commitment-phobic person. Some of my relationships were pictured in the book as if the author's had been there. The good thing about the book is that it teaches you how to walk through your grief now and what to look for to avoid being in that situation again. Good luck to you.
My ex broke up with me last week and to find out already she has a new boyfriend... I don't think I've ever felt so deceived.. This song is perfect right about now......
i really love this song even though its for those broken heart,.but no offense i've watch atleast five of there live concert there different tune.,,.just my own opinion pips!
This was the #1 Billboard pop song for the entire year of 1989 after being released in October 1988. It spent 2 weeks at the #1 spot in late 1988 on the Billboard pop chart. It was Chicago's third and last #1 pop hit.

@executivelance I both agree and disagree. Music should make you feel things and you should share them. But than again I've been dumbed before and didn't have to complain about it.
Spoken like a true Mario Puzo fan. In his books the Mafia men never bitched to each other about women and all, because they are the least important among all the things they had to attend to. Don Corleone told his godson Johnny Fontane to "be a man" and was happy when the latter took his advice without any form of personal retaliation unlike his three sons who'd sulk, leave the house, keep numb etc.
Cross is too young and soft with Athena Aquitaine that made his Sicilian
friend miss America, and he also risked violent punishment and great disdain from Don Clericuzio if the Godfather knew the extent of what he did (using the Family's men and resources) for a woman.
His books although I understand he was sandwiched in the middle (he had to maintain the same respect on both ends of the scale - the mafia and the government and its agencies) make for interesting and at times, even educational read.
@executivelance That's awesome. It was my third grade first crush that I associate this song with. You didn't sit by a little twirp named Jeff with spiked hair did you?
@executivelance Music affects people in different ways..Music helps to heal the soul..how it affects you is different than how it affects someone else..Personally this song reminds me of my childhood in Puerto Rico...wether you are a fan or not is not the point.
@executivelance Music affects people in different ways..Music helps to heal the soul..how it affects you is different than how it affects someone else..Personally this song reminds me of my childhood in Puerto Rico...wether you are a fan or not is not the point. peace!
This is the worst worst worst song to ever hear when you've broken up with someone you care about... god it made me sob so much when I was young. Glad my heart got a little resilience over the years--oh, 80s, you were so cruel with the sweeping ballads of Journey, REO Speedwagon, Air Supply, Chicago... even in good times, they broke you from the inside out. Movies like Karate Kid didn't help (for What Kind of Man would I be etc)... huge sighs...
sad song yet, is the classic case of most break ups! I would feel that way inside, but never put it into words...cause that would only bring me to weakness...i would break my own heart by destroying memories we had...and focus on something else that is emotionally developing and challenging...maybe sports, works, or anything...farming shrimps.
This song is well before my time, and i must admit i listen to mostly progressive modern rock, or indie acoustic music.. but i love this song. I remember being a kid and seeing my parents listening to this as they would sit and reminisce their past together... They are now divorced and that has affected me alot. friend miss America, and he also risked violent punishment and great disdain from Don Clericuzio if the Godfather knew the extent of what he did (using the Family's men and resources) for a woman.
His books although I understand he was sandwiched in the middle (he had to maintain the same respect on both ends of the scale - the mafia and the government and its agencies) make for interesting and at times, even educational read.

@SeventhSun Very true. Read the book Omerta, which is also by Puzo, if you want an interesting view on the Mafia and government agencies.

@executivelance Music affects people in different ways..Music helps to heal the soul..how it affects you is different than how it affects someone else..Personally this song reminds me of my childhood in Puerto Rico...wether you are a fan or not is not the point.

People shouldn't be in love, just get married to someone they kind a get along with, and split the electricity bill.
