Somehow, I couldn't really get into this version :(. Perhaps I need to hear it a few times to like it, but I don't know...
It seems like the parts to this song just don't fit like they do on the album. On the album it's as if every last sound works perfectly together, and it's like the song has a real real strong spirit. This sounds a bit... jumbled, and weak.
That may just be because it's a live recording though. Live is only good if you're there IMO.
@peleproductions i like this one way more than the album version. find the BBC recording of it, that'll be the best quality of the song. i think i probably like this better because in '08 this was the first merriweather boot i heard and loved it right away.
@peleproductions This particular performance is a little more jumbled than others, but I think the biggest difference is the way the lyrics are written. The album version is written with Avey Tare's magical sentence smithery while this has a very blunt style, like many of Panda's songs and that's common in our post-modernist culture. Things like "I tried to like the clothes" become "only ma'd pretend to like ...". I think those lyrics a wonderful but the live version has more chill atmosphere.
they played it like this on the BBC recently, so who knows, they might include it in their sets in the coming months. but yeah, they haven't played it before that since 2007 I believe.
Did they really? I was under the impression their BBC set (this year) was only "Lion in a Coma" and the new (fucking fantastic) song "What Would I Want Sky?"
no way man the live version is way better its more abstract and spacious it sounds like a slow moving carousel, the album version is good but its lacking the character that this one has.
and to the girl at 2:52 - hi.
