  • this phone has no comparison with any other..its best and nokia n900 beats iphone 4 and all samsung galaxy s and even nokia n8...this phone is perfect nokia pls make 1 more n series phone like this with 12 mpx camera and hdmi and usb on go n8 i think so is not upto the mark..

  • can i downlaod it for my Nokia 5530 to?

  • i would expect nothing less from mozilla... this is awesome

  • does it support javascript and flash??

  • Will This Be Realeased for the iPhone?

Although i have a jailbroken device, will you need a jaikbroken device to install the firefox browser?

and a thing left out by almost every browser except firefox i've noticed and this is the prime reason that i use firefox on my computer is THEMING will you be able to THEME this browser on your mobile device? because although the design it has now is likable a more glassy/transparent theme would suit my device better,

Great Concept! & Good Work Mozilla

  • @TehKIlling1 They have no intention to release it anywhere else, its on their site :(

  • these features are awesome!

  • This is sooo AWESOME !!! I LOVE FIREFOX !!! Best browser ever ! :D I wished Firefox created a Firefox for iPhone !!! :D Can't wait... ! :) There's already myFox but it doesn't have tabs... :(

  • Rip of of Opera Mini/Mobile.

  • id pay for this on the andriod market

  • I like the wall picture behind him very nice.....But N 900 Zindabad i want that phone now......................

  • not bad browser, its still at its developing stage though, overall I like using, its peformance is almost like modori

  • I just got one.. this phone is insane... the first thing I did after getting n900 was to sell my iPhone and Droid on ebay..

  • DOES IT HAVE FLASH.

  • YES MAN YES.

  • yes.. 9.4.

  • everytime I download something on this browser it goes straight to my documents. is there a preferences for setting the place to download something to the internal or removable memory ?

  • yeah u can when u download something. it asks u where do u want to put it ..... and u can also create new folder

  • well the regular browser on my tablet lets me choose where i can download it to my device, but when im using firefox it just downloads straight to my device

  • what's so great about Iphone safari? I can't even watch youtube videos and it most sites it goes straight to the mobile version. terrible experience

  • The iPhone browser is not great because of safari. But because of the patents that support the iPhones touch screen. The same US patents that prevent droid phones from having multi-touch in the states, when the sane phones have it in Europe. No phone in the near future will be as perfect to the touch as the iPhone because everything that makes it so uniquely perferct, is patented. Plain and simple. Thumb me down if it's not true, but not just if you disagree.

  • so multitouch makes a browser the best? How so? So you could have the worst browser in the world, without bookmarks, or add-ons, or javascript even, but if it had some childish pinching gesture, then it would be worth all that hassle and lack of basic features? That doesn't make sense to me.

  • It actually has all those things. You only don't get it because you don't want to, based on conclusions that you jumped to blindly.

  • once safari mobile gets flash and HTML5 then I'll consider it in the same league as the mozilla browser on the N900, Opera mobile and Firefox mobile

  • And I'll do the same once HTML5 is actually implemented into those BETA browsers that run on those not so responsive operating systems that weren't originally designed for thouch screens. Nokia? What decade is it?

  • And it's bot just multi touch. It's the specific sensitivity of it's screen. It's the undisputable best on the market, that can't be replicated yet. Don't get me wrong, I'll jump ship as soon as something better comes along. But nothings close yet. Get one, live with it for a week, then tell me I'm wrong.

  • I've had an iphone 3G, the screen was very good but not very accurate at all, and I couldn't end up affording it so I had to give it up.

  • That's a lie, or broken. I've been doing this entire thing on my iPhone. Navigating and typing, quickly. I don't know where this is going though. It's the best purchase I have ever made in my techie life. But my original comment was not even in support of the iPhone or safari. But rather just to say that the browser in this video...

  • @killplaystation

"best purchase I have ever made in my techie life."

lmfao, if an iphone is the best purchase you made in your so called techie life, then you know nothing about technology. hahah.

  • @killplaystation , yeah right... your superior experience in Safari.. but, with no Flash support..

    Damned fanboys.. they're everywhere..

  • comment was not even in support of the iPhone or safari. But rather just to say that the browser in this video isn't ground braking, especially when compared to how groundbraking firefox was on PC when it debuted. This mobile beta browser is crippled by hardware and won't be anything special until they develop new hardware or port it to the iPhone.

  • the hardware is awsome...it has much better graphics acceleration and 3d support than iPhone and for the most part is blisteringly fast. Shame about resistive touch screen though.

  • The hardware of the N900 is far better than anything else available...

The browser in the vid is in development.

  • The type of touch n900 uses makes it far more sensitive/accurate

  • This isn't the browser that comes with the N900.

This is a vid of a browser in development.

  • i have n900 but i cant find firefox ??

  • you have to download the beta version from the official mozilla website on your nokia N900

  • thanx i got it

  • Before getting the N900 I saw this video and got really excited about this additional, non-stock browser for the phone.

Turns out, however, that this browser is a bit slow and looks really intrusive in my opinion with the heavy borders and rough, out-of-place colour scheme.

The native browser is a lot better in my opinion.

  • Mozilla and Google could great something truly epic, if they worked together.

  • @hoboX10 , true. They should just merge/buy-out

  • Lol I must have been tired as hell when I typed this. How did I end up typing "great something" lolol. I meant create something.

  • great something is better ;)

  • Wait, he was downloading .deb files? What, is that phone running debian or ubuntu?

  • Debian based Maemo.

  • Yeah, it runs Maemo 5 and it's not a gated community either. I think the only closed parts are the phone/radio stuff, but if you know your way around debian, you'll love this.

  • @phillipjfry6, iphone can install deb files.

  • by voiding your warranty, hahaha

  • ANDROID !! ANDROID !! PLEASE

  • Very impressive. Unless apple do a complete overhaul of safari for the iphone I might consider ditching my iphone just for this. Who can say no to addons AND flash support?

  • @basefree123 It's not just my opinion that Firefox is the best browser; it's the fact that N900 allows freedom to install any compatible application while iPhad only allows software approved by Apple. That's why iPhad users can't have Java, Flash or even a C64 emulator. Apple doesn't want them.

  • Are you making Firefox for S60?

  • pffft S60 is old news

  • It still is one of the most used smatphone OS in the world.

  • Actually its the most used. It has 50% of the market

  • at last... good things happen on mobiles :)

    thanks for video

  • sick video eh.... maybe this is whats taking them so long ^.^

In time we will have this device...

by then i want n900 community to be big... so i need you guys to join us at

    maemo-nokian900(.)com

  • Perfect. It proofs that the browser on Mobile devices will replace so many apps that you needed to use in the past.

  • how come the stuttering disappeared all of a sudden?

  • good browser

  • Must.... have.. this!

  • so cool.. firefox rules! i could care less about "weave" though lol.

  • i think that this is going to be the best mobile browser out there, pc synchronisation and extensions, jesus is getting better and better!

  • before this was called fennec, well however i support this great things

  • fearless leader lol :D

  • Does it support full flash? Also what version does it support (if it does)..

And so far (I know it's still a beta).. but it looks like it's not smooth at all!? Although I like the idea of having column bars on the right and left... Keep up the great work though.. I am looking forward on using it when I get my N900 (eventually).. lol

  • It supports up to flash 9 until adobe releases 10.1 for smartphones. And it's not smooth because it's a beta and it is not optimized.

  • Supports Adobe Flash 9.4 and ... 10.1 coming soon ..

  • Yep I know about the Flash 10.1.. And it's good that it supports Flash 9.4 like the default Maemo browser..

And @celderian: I do understand that it's still a beta that's why I did say (I know it's still a beta).. :P But still.. Also I haven't seen the features that the regular Maemo browser has.. Like having a cursor, or even the "spiral zoom" for zooming in and out in a little bit or a lot.. and it looks like the Maemo browser is a little bit faster..

  • I hope there will be a version for other mobile operating systems, like Windows Mobile, too.

  • The Windows Mobile version is in progress and alpha releases are available for some devices. However, it's not yet as polished as the Maemo version.

  • Looks so awesome, cant wait untill my n900 arrives!

  • we want toolbars to be supported

so i would prefer using real firefox by installing ubuntu or debian onto n900

  • Nice!

  • I concur with the statement that N900 does not need a tabbed browser because it has it's own multi-tasking system that is awesome. But still, mozilla on n900 would be cool!

  • currently, the only reason i use firefox is for my kids pc's with the glubble product.

i like the tabs and the sliding you use to keep the real-estate of the screen. it makes sense.

    my questions:

    1. will glubble work on this as well?

    2. are you going to make it so that your browswer will also switch to the portrait mode too?

    3. are you going to add KB shortcuts like an alt-tab to switch tabs, etc.

    4. how is the curser usage with this mozilla product? can we still copy/paste?

  • 1) The current Glubble add-on won't work with Firefox for Maemo; the developer will need to port it to this version.

    2) No portrait mode support on the N900 in version 1.0.

    3) There are some KB shortcuts -- ctrl-L moves you to the URL bar, backspace acts like hitting the back button (when you're not focused on a text field). Adding next tab/prev tab is a good idea; I'll file a bug.

    4) You can use shift+arrow to select a region then use ctrl+c/v/x.

  • the point of sliding to the left and right to get to the buttons is to provide more screen real estate. this is for a mobile device so screen space is at a HUGE premium. you want to be able to see the whole webpage at all times while easily being able to access addtional features. great design from the boys @ mozilla.

  • I don't like the tab on the side...i want to be able to see it like you see on your pc firefox on top.

  • what if you are browsing a really log article and you scroll down quite a way. now to get to the back button or the tabs you got to scroll all the way back to the top of the page . Not cool at all

  • What? No, no... that's not true. The tabs and controls don't scroll with the page; that's why they're off to the left & right sides (instead of at the top). No matter where you are on the page, if you swipe right you see the tabbar, swipe left you se the controls.

You can see that when he scrolls the list of tabs from his desktop -- the controls in the bar at the left don't move.

  • Wow..do you ever use BROWSER AT ALL?? Dude, you don't EVER scroll up just to get to the back and forward buttons. It's always there at the top no matter how long the article is!!

  • Yes it is there on top but how are you going to access it on a mobile. in order to have max real estate for the webpage it nees to be hidden.when you swipe your fingers up and down the page scrolls up and down. hence the reason for the side ways swipe to access the tabs. and dude I do use the borwser a lot . I think you need to try and use a mobile browser for a change

  • You have never used a touchscreen mobile in your life have you. If you make the icons smaller the chances of fat fingers not hitting them icons increases. Not everyone uses a stylus.

As for your Stupid and retard statements you just need to look at your comment ratings. That should make it clear who is a moron

  • @bkailash You don't have to make the icons smaller...i am sure they can make it fit in if they want to....just make the address bar smaller or reduce every icon slightly smaller. It is not an excuse not the put the "back n forward" buttons on top. It is a flaw design to have to swipe every single time in order to access the "back and forward" button every time. And it can get annoying because people use that a lot.

  • @bkailash "when you swipe your fingers up and down the page scrolls up and down..hence the reason for the side ways swipe to access tabs." What kind of stupid logic is this. So because you swipe fingers up and down, there is no room to put a "back and forth button" on top? Dumb logic. They could have shrinked the address bar smaller or something i am sure it can fit the "back and forth buttons" on top.

  • No, no they can't. Not even a little bit more. It's already the smallest it can be without running into UI reliability problems. How small are your fingers to think that it could work any other way?

  • Woah...who's the hot girl at 1:28? Jay, bring her in to help out with the demo!

  • Why do this ? The built in browser is already developed by mozilla...

  • No, the built in browser isn't developed by Mozilla. Altough it uses Gecko for rendering.

  • oh, then it was ''based'' on mozilla.

  • cool! I hope back button works as usually in firefox!

  • OK, so when this is getting into extras-testing or the main catalog for N900?

  • Whats the point of having tabs in Mozilla mobile on the n900? The n900 UI has its own tabs that work in the background and look way cooler the ones included in the browser itself!

  • NIIIICE!
