I taught my Saddlebred to rear under saddle when I say "Up" and squeeze. Now I wanna teach him to lay down. I've been taking him to his fav. rolling spot after untacking him and when he starts to lay down I say "Down" over and over and give hime a treat when he goes down. He's comfortable enough to stay down while I move around hime and he'll let me sit on him and then get up when I tell him. Any advice on how to teach him to do it on command though??

This guy is really inspiring! I teach my horse to do tricks, and it's not easy, I'd love to be half as good as Texas Ollie. I wish I had the time to train with a pro because you cannot beat the bond that these people have with their horses :D

lol i tried to get my horse to hug me, he hates hugs, and he tried to bite me lol.one time, my frend came over, she said 'SUNNY IS MY FAVORITE' and then he bit her hand, she wacked him, and he almost kicked her lol. then she learned never to hug a horse that she didn't know... he usually lets me hug him lol..... that would be SO KEWL if i cud train my horses to do this.... can you post a video of you training a colt that has NEVER been trained please?

Can u do this with a horse u lease or will u not have the same bond? I lease a old cranky horse who doesn't do anything unless theres food involved but he's fat already and on a diet and I don't wanna over feed him. I dont know what to do

Just get bite sized treats. They last a while and then your horse doesn't really gain anything from them.

@MysticalHorsey It takes A LOT of time. Time, time and more time is the key. You must work with your horse every chance you get. You can do this with any horse; you just have to take the time out of every day to spend time with your horse so that you can bond with each other and understand each other... Spending lots of time with your horse whether you are both working, or grooming, or you are simply hanging out with him in the pasture while he is grazing. It's much like a marriage ;)

Awesome!! Thanks for posting this. Maybe you can point me in the right directon, I want to be a competent horse trainer, I'm going to take college classes, but I would like to learn from actual trainers, I just don't know how to go about finding an apprenticeship program. Some look at me like they want to beat me up for even asking, others already have apprentices, and others are very expensive.
