  • When I convinced my wife to have a Billy Joel song as our wedding song/first dance, she wasn't crazy about it. Until I played this. Thanks for a great version Billy. Dylan may have a nasally bland voice, but he could write a great song!

  • Bryan Ferry(Roxy Music) version is a close second!

  • Billy is the BEST! Favorite version of this awesome Dylan song!

  • Yeh, I get it Daniel, if you listen to the original writer of the song, Bob Dylan, singing it, you will realise how his interpretation of the song isn't the way Billy Joel sings it. I appreciate that everyone has the right to interpret a song how they like and I will reiterate what I said, Billy Joel doesn't do the song justice. But then that in itself is only my opinion and I won't discourage you from yours.

  • I think Billy Joel is great, BUT sorry, he just doesn't do this song justice. It's supposed to be sung as a gentle love song, not a rousing battle cry!

  • @robininspain29 Don't you get it?! Love has its up and down, its good and bad moments, and that's exactly how He sings it. I think this is one of the better covers of the song...

  • muy buena versión

  • All the covers are a bit different, and the girls versions different again. Maybe it depends what gender you are listening as well as what sort of feeling you're after.

  • Billy is the best :D:D:D

  • No wonder People are queuing up to cover this song, Words are pure poetry and so beautiful.

I can't wait to give this a go @ next karaoke, I could blow them away with this.;-))

  • @biffoscot hihi ok have fun .uhm take it on a vid and show me this stuff :D:D:D

  • I love this interpretation of the original... Mainly because I've listened all of Billy's other songs to death :P, but while neither Dylan or Joel have great voices formally speaking, I love Billy's voice in the more ballad sounding songs like this. The high notes aren't the same anymore... but that is far from taking the passion from his voice.

  • hey i've uploaded a video of myself performing this song, please watch it and let me know what you think :)

  • @star15615 ok i try i am very busy at the moment =)

  • @billyjoelforever thank you, I hope it will be worth your while !

  • From the first time I heard this song, I loved and hated it for the emotions it mustered up.

  • billy joel definitely better than other versions

  • @jahezeeus and definitely nothing compares to dylan who wrote the song ..

  • in my opninion Adele sings it with more emotion :)

  • @clayscsings it's definitely billy joel...

  • @clayscsings

lol , Bob Dylan, no offense to him, I like him alot, but he couldn't sound like this if he wanted to

  • @MysticFox88

why would he want to sound like this?

  • @thumpinrascal

I was replying to the person above me who couldn't tell the difference. I have no problem with Bob Dylan, I love his music, and Billy Joel's, but pretty easy to tell the difference between the two.

  • @MysticFox88 no comparison to voice. bob dylan was never known for his stellar singing talent. he sucks. billy joel blows him away. in regards to song writing, i'll say they're both just as influential.

  • @TheSurvivor2001 "in regards to song writing, i'll say they're both just as influential." And you will be wrong. You suck.

  • @MysticFox88 ow?

  • @Pouchy17 What do you mean by ow? All I was saying is Bob Dylan isn't much of a "singer", but don't get me wrong I like him and like his music a lot

  • If you love this check out Adele's version i like it best in my opinion

  • This is my all time favorite version of this song. Runner up is Mr. Garth Brooks

  • This was a live recording included on a greatest hits as a bonus track. To all of those criticizing Joel and Brooks, they are simply covering a song they respect and enjoy performing . . . both really well. Adele also sings a great version of this . . . but when she has had a career as amazing as Joel or Brooks both of who have written songs more popular than this . . . then you are free to kiss her ass.

  • i know im 15 but i love billy joel ive grown up with his music and he sings this better than anyone so anybody who says adele is better ya need to clean ya ears out because he is awesome

  • I thought I had all of Billy's stuff. What album is this on? Love his version!! Billy makes every song his.

  • @cards0486 It's on River of Dreams

  • @fluffybum100 Yes, after I asked I went to my boxed set, and found it. Thank you.

  • Wow, what's with all the haters? This version is very good. I went and looked at the Garth version and others and it didn't leave me impressed.

  • it's called LOVE dip-stick!!!!

  • Check out Joan Osbourne's live version. Full of soul. This is not a song Billy Joel should be covering. He sounds half-drunk and he's over dramatizing it.

  • @DougStoneent I agree, what makes it even more difficult to listen to is that it sounds like Joel is trying to do a pretty bad Dylan impression and as you say just ends up sounding half drunk.

  • @DougStoneent Billy sings this beautifully.

  • Kelsey Mae! You knew I had to include this song. I know you love it and so do I. I wish I could sing it to you but you know that there is nothing I wouldn't do to make you feel my love. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me and you've made me so happy. I'm here for you, through anything and I love you past what words can describe. The letters for this great song are I and E. You can find the next couple under my spirit week pictures. Loooove you!

  • Adeles is the best!

  • yeah Garth is better...Adele is good also

  • Garth Brooks version is the best

  • this doesn't sound like billy joel... sounds more like bon jovie.

  • @frupblud you're an idiot.

  • Hi Steve.....

  • crap poor copy. if you going to listen to a cover, don't listen to an american

  • @frupblud Well it was written and first recorded by an american, Bob Dylan.

  • Doesn't even sound like Billy Joel to me...

  • @JustOneMoreLoon I agree probably it could be a better version of the song if the 78s billy joel could sing it

Billy joel well its still awesome but not in this song

  • @mbpetally Adele's version sucks

  • @mbpetally pretty sure Dylan was American too

  • love it

  • Congratulations. Love is a wonderful thing but never take it for granted.

  • congratulations moochie

    How lovely.

  • congratulations moochie

    How lovely.

  • @lilbrazilcutie dw, you're not, I'm 16 and we used to live out of town, so when driving in and out of town when I was younger, mum always had a Billy Joel tape and a bob segar one too, so I grew up listening 2 him, my fav is we didn't start the fire; I know every word to it :)

  • i feel like im the only 15 year old who listens to billy joel:( lmfao.

  • *****

  • This is the best version... I've heard a lot of the others, and they can barely compare. Billy Joel is amazing!

  • @LeftFruitDeadBasket1 Have you heard Rebecca Ferguson's version on the X Factor? u mite like that version too if u havent heard it already!

  • @papayapawpaw not as good as the Gamu version .. just a poor copy.

  • @papayapawpaw dont promote that shit on here

  • This sucks.... listen to adele, now that is a cover!!!

  • Shame Billy Joel wouldnt know a good note if it bit him on the arse!!

  • I think all versions are good but I really think Adele does it best!

  • Not so good as Bob Dylans original or Bryan Ferrys, beautiful beautiful song.

  • Who sang this originally? I love it, but heard so many different versions.

  • The best version I have heard of this song: watch?v=bs8IR_5dv_8

It is better than any other version I've heard.

  • moochie987 , YESS good choice of song and thats my birthday :)

  • Bryan Ferry's version is the best.... and Moochi987, blessing to you. Lovely to see something so heartwarming posted on You Tube.

  • @redandover60

erm...I don't think so...probably the worst maybe. Ferry in the 70's oh yes, in the noughties....way past his sell by date.

  • @siadwel : Bryan Ferry past his sell by date? A bit like me then. It's all down to personal taste in the end...

  • Bryan Ferry's version is the best....

  • "When the rain is blowing in your face, and the whole world is on your case, I could offer you a warm embrace. When the evening shadows and starts appear, and there is no one there to dry your tears, I could hold you for a million years. To make you feel my love."

I'm a huge fan of Bob Dylan and all, as well as aware that he wrote this song, but to our dismay his vocals aren't nearly as good as Billy Joel's while singing this lovely tune.

  • I understand what you mean. Dylan is definitely an acquired taste, as far as his singing goes.
