@Faleen3 The German title is "To Where?", but English versions tend to take some liberties and assume a different title were the piece conceived originally in English. This is more of an exact translation.
@Hansfan1989 Glad you like it :-) Actually, it's a lied, or an art song, and not from an opera. You might like some others of these - many are by Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, among others. Thanks for commenting.
@oakroom48 Thanks for answering my message! So this is an example of a "Lied"? I study German and have heard of "Lieder", but this is the first one I've listened to :-). I'll try and listen to some of the ones you mentioned.
@Hansfan1989 You're welcome. All of the numbers performed by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Gerald Moore on my Channel are examples of Lieder. You can usually tell the difference between a Lied or a song and a solo from an opera [usually called an aria], because the aria will often tell you the title of the opera it's from. Some examples are "The Barber of Seville", "Carmen, "La Bohème" . I recommend the Channel of FiDiTanzer528 for examples of many many Lieder that you may like :-)
The more(no pun) I listen to this the better it seems. These guys were just the best. Every detail is cared for, yet nothing is labored or pretentious(I think). Gives me joy every time! Thanks very much...
Oh, thank you! He makes it sound deceptively easy to sing, too. He sings with such ease and feeling. I think this recording is flawless. He is simply amazing!
I agree about DFD. These early collaborations with Moore introduced me to German lieder when I was young, and I never forgot them! Thanks again for your comments :)
Thank you very much for commenting! I can recommend anything DFD sings for more of the same qualities - a great musician as well as a great singer. Glad you enjoyed the post:)
And I love Wunderlich's version too. I could pick his flaw but still love his singing! And it's great to have them as to have different types of male voices!
Actually, I kind of feel this way. I wish I *could* put more energy & imagination into them right now. Soon - soon !! Thanks as always for your comment and your smile :)
Ja! Ja! I got it - don't worry!! :) [see the "winky"] Truthfully though, I'll never be a videographer. Soon, tho, I hope to be able to spend more time on them. I LOVED your comment !!! ))
I am so happy that you appreciate my posts, Ferdinando! I am not good with video yet .. but truly, your comments are so welcome! Thank you :) -Barbara
What a joy to hear this recording! Both vocal and piano are very beautiful. Thank you, dear Barbara.
