After 2 devastating tsunamis, we've seen over and over again on TV and YouTube, I think today everybody would run for his life, get in tall buildings or what not. Back then nobody knew how big and dramatic this was going to get. Especially not the tourists (for they probably didn't know a thing about tsunamis). Of course these people were curious in what was happening..

@maxbl1 These people did not know a tsunami was heading torwards them. There was no tsunami warning system up at this time and people had no idea what was going on. When these people realize what was going on it was too late because you can even tell a tsunami until it gets close to the shoreline. And running can be useless since tsunami travel 100's mph. if this people had a tsunami warning and knew im sure they wouldve ran to high grounds. you can learn this in a natural disaster class btw.

Mianmitthu is correct. This is not Indonesia. Indonesia get hit first and the hardest. 75% of all 2004 tsunami victims were Indonesians. Most of shore flat areas suffered 100% loss of live. It is generally acknowlaged wave there had 30+ ft, while it is speculated by some marks on rocks and trees that in some places they were as high as 45-60ft. There is not a single known video in existance of tsunami in Indonesia which survived.
