These stories made me so depressed. I was placed in a foster home and adopted at five. My siblings and I were one of the rare cases where we needed to find a new home. My bio-mother had tried to kill my brother and sister by leaving them rolling in bleach in the bathroom floor. They couldn't walk... But There are few cases where a child needs a new home. It's sick CPS took these beautiful children away from their parent's because CPS thought they could find better suited parents. Murderers.

Social workers took my firstborn son because his father and I committed the crime of being young, unmarried and poor. The adopters were nothing like him. They emotionally abused him to the point he was hospitalized with severe depression. I've heard many worse stories over the years. I could write a book and hardly begin to cover the cruelty and injustice done to children and their natural parents "in the best interests of the child." this is such a sick world we live in! seeing these things done to children, or anyone makes me want to hurt the abusers, but God will judge, His judgement is worse than any I can ever dole out. I was in CPS care for one week for reasons that are really too complicated and I don't care to explain. The woman who took care of me and my younger brother never told us her name. She told us to always call her "ma'am." Before we even saw her home she took us to Juvinille. She told us this is where the state would put us if we tried to run away. She then proceded over the week to beat us just for the pleasure of it. We never knew why she did this.She never told us. Thankfully she lost her job.

My teacher assistant in 3rd grade has been a foster parent, and still is to this very day. She is a PHENOMENAL woman. She really cares for the kids like they were her own, and oh, she just lights up talking about them! Yeah, she's had rough times with kids, but they usually come back when they grow up to thank her. I have felt alone and lost cause i don't think i can do anything legally about it. I know my girls are lost and i can't help them legally. They both were very young and thro the years have stated to me on the phone that they have been mentally abused and a little physical abuse. When i called the social worker and told her she ignored me and when the girls stated the same thing she ignored them.
My two girls where taken from me from social services cause i asked for help from family members. They said i bounced my girls around but i was only trying to get someone to help me cause i was young. Now they live with their grandparents from my ex and have been trying to figure how to leave and come back home for years. My now 16yr old is really bad. She wants to go to the judge on this wednesday and ask what she can do to leave and come home! I will be there next to her.
I want to be a foster parent some day., because these foster parents that work with CPS, that take in these kids, make all foster parents, even the good ones, look bad. There ARE good people and good foster parents in the world. But CPS and DHS need to look into the "parents" they're sending these kids to a bit more.
This isn't just an american problem. It is happening world wide. What is it going to take to get new laws for these workers and proper supervising of the children the workers and the foster parents. The lies have to stop and so do the bonuses the worker get for every child they take.

@alannadsmith It was explained that the mother left Washington bc of an abusive relationship. Her daughter had a thyroid condition that required expensive mess. She went to Oregon to get healthcare insurance to pay for the mess but instead they took her away for medical neglect. It illustrates the backward and counter intuitive actions of CPS
@CanadianRoadRunner Teens run away not because they don't want to follow rules, but because they feel unwanted, don't trust anyone and expect to be abandoned. People are so quick to assume that teen runaways are just inherently bad. Really they are just ill-equipped to express themselves in a healthy and mature manner since the people that supposedly love them actually fail them. This gets perpetuated by CPS. You should avoid making uneducated statements.
Why do teens that are in foster homes run away? Because they aren't used to having to follow rules and don't want to in their foster home. Their parents let them run wild which is why these kids were taken in the first place.

@alannadsmith I think CPS takes kids from their parents for "alleged" abuse, sometimes it's for a valid reason, sometimes it's for something stupid like the parents are simply disciplining their children. As for it being voluntary, some cases are, but I wouldn't know what the percentages are. Until I saw this documentary, I had no idea that CPS' laundry list was that long, yet it's near impossible to beat them in court. They're incompetent AND powerful - a dangerous combination.

I was in foster care as a child. I was placed in a least two abusive families that i can recall. The CPS knew that one of the families was abusive but kept me in that home for 31/2 years. The other family often did not feed us and was verbally abusive. They had received a call of concern about this family they came asked us a few questions and then left. The state allowed my mentally retarded foster sister to be adopted by this family. I had several caseworkers it seemed to me that no one cared

Being a person who went into foster care at eight months and stayed my whole life in the same home BUT was sexually and emotionally abused and my husband went through the foster care system and was physically, mentally and emotionally abused, we can feel for these children. I have always had a deep distrust of the child protective agencies. Some really care but some just power trip and are in need of psychological help themselves.

My ex who had a perfectly lovely and healthy 11 year old beat OUR new born baby nearly to death after a night of drinking while I watched over my son who I had hospitalized for severe complications to autism. He was her father and had never been violent to his children or me before. CPS removed my daughter from my care while this man I used to trust was convicted of 1st degree injury to a child. I hired a lawyer.
@oldskhool4eva and I honestly believe that is the only reason I got my baby back as quickly as I did and it took 10 months. Mostly by God's grace though. They tried to keep her because my son was autistic and unpredictable although he had no history for violence toward anyone in the home or anyone else for that matter. They stated that they would return her once I put my son into a state psychiatric facility. Turn him over to state care. I told them no and legally challenged them.

I used to think just like you ... this doesn't happen to people who are doing the right thing by their kids but it does. Believe me it does. Twice a week I sat in a room waiting to see my daughter for visitation. Some of the parents were just like me and terrified for their babies others where idiots and admitted drug addicts who got their kids back before good parents! One group of parents I saw..
Who had their 3 kids returned after only 2 weeks in foster care were living in a park. That is what they told me. They sat in the room waiting laughing being stupid ... describing their case as if it had meant nothing to them. They told me the kids were removed because the police raided the home and they had found meth. They had lost their home because of this and despite all that that day where there to pick up their three kids. This was their third time having their kids removed by CPS.
So you tell me... does CPS always do the right thing are they always working in the best interest of the child. I would go to visits with my baby girl and they would tell me how easy it would be to adopt my little girl out forever because she was just a newborn. I was told by a CPS worker who was fired for speaking her mind while I was involved with them that they could make top dollar for my daughter because she was a newborn and that she was witness to the corruption.
If you really love your baby ? Then cut the crap! step up to the plate and get her back then run for your life with your child ......as far as you can from those bastards called the CPA

Legally, morally and everything else I was not in the wrong and they found every reason to remove my infant from my custody. I hired a lawyer and got her back. As for why CPS was called in the first place I probably initiated that myself by calling the police on my ex who had the nervous breakdown and tried to kill our child and rushing her to the hospital.
@oldskhool4eva I was told by this former CPS worker that they prey on the lower income out of work mothers and parents because they will not have the financial ability to fight them. I had lost my job because of my son's hospitalization but being an educated person with a career could command a 6 figure salary and quickly got back to work. They didn't count on that and that is how I was able to get the legal representation I needed to get my daughter back home.
Good for you for getting your daughter back after going thru such a horrible experience with the CPS ! But since you are an educated person,with a career & a 6 figure salary? Don't you think its now your moral duty to help those less fortunate than you who're going thru the same horror,but without your advantages?You're in the perfect position to help those people! @ZEITGEISTism Oh I totally agree with you. There is an organization called Fight CPS which I have donated not only money but also legal contacts and my own experiences with. There are many innocent families that would benefit from aggressive legal help who know the CPS system. Unfortunately that kind of representation doesn't come cheap. The issue helping w/ funding for things like this is being able to understand the facts and make sure you are helping the right people.
@ZEITGEISTism These people don't need a pot of money as much as they need some knowledgeable and aggressive family litigators in their respective states who are willing to work with families who don't have a 10K for a retainer or the ability to get a loan for that much either. I had money to get legal help but what about the innocent families who do not? I wonder how many people and orgs would fund a program which raises funds to pay innocent families retainers?

I love them. Since the corruption they witness in my case they have declined to work for CPS any longer. The social workers lied to them about the criminal case placing me as the defendant which I of course through public records was easily able to show them I wasn't. They stated to them I was mentally unstabl
@oldskhool4eva Which again I was readily able to prove through the state sanctioned evaluations and private evaluations that I was not unstable. Fact was foster parents were more than willing to adopt my daughter if returning to my care was not in the best interest of the child. The state stood to make money from this case but alas their plans were foiled. I have three kids and I handle them very well. I love each and everyone of them and couldn't imagine my life with out just one of them.

If any of ya'll have seen tv crime shows that start off saying "based on a true story" you can see when the criminal and his lawyer are in the interrogation room, the police eventually tell evidence and the criminal admits in some way of doing the crime, the lawyer, without acting suprised AT ALL sometimes will try to make a deal with the police to shorten time.
That happens in real life too, not just movies.
The lawyers that do that are only trying to make money, or are criminals themselves

Lets take "Liar Liar" (Movie staring Jim Carry I believe) It may be "Just a movie" but in real life lawyers act just like him, trying to lie so his/her client wins, that's what gets the lawyers money. no win = nothing, and winning = money.
I've seen shows where lawyers talk the child into giving in and lying about things. Some shows even say kids can't be trusted in court rooms cause they are easily "Coached" into telling lies or false info
My experience with CPS is that they are not malicious but are singularily worthless when you wish to put in a complaint about a situation involving a child. After dealing with them for years trying to help my little sister, I finally forgot them, hired a paralegal, filled out forms and finally took my dad to court myself. The court decided in favor of my becoming my sister's legal guardian. I've never regretted my decision.
I live in Klamath Falls, OR, how do you fight a system that is corrupt and is breaching the conflict of interest laws just because it suites them. Who is the DHS accountable to? Not the law or police when DHS tells them what to do. Can we, the people, file a class action lawsuit against DHS.

@Emma2c4u Child Protective Services (CPS) is a government-run agency that steps in when they believe that the children will not be safe in the care of their parents, and takes steps to either remove the child to a safer home or to work with the parent(s) to improve their home.
Unfortunately, the guidelines they use to say "You're abusive and we must take your kids!" are too broad... so they take kids who aren't in danger. And apparently don't check out the foster homes enough either.

Social workers took my firstborn son because his father and I committed the crime of being young, unmarried and poor. The adopters were nothing like him. They emotionally abused him to the point he was hospitalized with severe depression. I've heard many worse stories over the years. I could write a book and hardly begin to cover the cruelty and injustice done to children and their natural parents "in the best interests of the child." I was in CPS care for one week for reasons that are really too complicated and I don't care to explain. The woman who took care of me and my younger brother never told us her name. She told us to always call her "ma'am." Before we even saw her home she took us to Juvinille. She told us this is where the state would put us if we tried to run away. She then proceded over the week to beat us just for the pleasure of it. We never knew why she did this.She never told us. Thankfully she lost her job.

The thing is, yeah it NEEDS to be reformed, but it feels like you take away from the really AWESOME foster parents. My teacher assistant in 3rd grade has been a foster parent, and still is to this very day. She is a PHENOMENAL woman. She really cares for the kids like they were her own, and oh, she just lights up talking about them! Yeah, she's had rough times with kids, but they usually come back when they grow up to thank her. @alannadsmith I think CPS takes kids from their parents for "alleged" abuse, sometimes it's for a valid reason, sometimes it's for something stupid like the parents are simply disciplining their children. As for it being voluntary, some cases are, but I wouldn't know what the percentages are. Until I saw this documentary, I had no idea that CPS' laundry list was that long, yet it's near impossible to beat them in court. They're incompetent AND powerful - a dangerous combination.

I was in foster care as a child. I was placed in a least two abusive families that i can recall. The CPS knew that one of the families was abusive but kept me in that home for 31/2 years. The other family often did not feed us and was verbally abusive. They had received a call of concern about this family they came asked us a few questions and then left. Being a person who went into foster care at eight months and stayed my whole life in the same home BUT was sexually and emotionally abused and my husband went through the foster care system and was physically, mentally and emotionally abused, we can feel for these children. My ex who had a perfectly lovely and healthy 11 year old beat OUR new born baby nearly to death after a night of drinking while I watched over my son who I had hospitalized for severe complications to autism. He was her father and had never been violent to his children or me before. CPS removed my daughter from my care while this man I used to trust was convicted of 1st degree injury to a child. I hired a lawyer.

@oldskhool4eva and I honestly believe that is the only reason I got my baby back as quickly as I did and it took 10 months. Mostly by God's grace though. They tried to keep her because my son was autistic and unpredictable although he had no history for violence toward anyone in the home or anyone else for that matter. They stated that they would return her once I put my son into a state psychiatric facility. Turn him over to state care. I told them no and legally challenged them.

Who had their 3 kids returned after only 2 weeks in foster care were living in a park. That is what they told me. They sat in the room waiting laughing being stupid ... describing their case as if it had meant nothing to them. They told me the kids were removed because the police raided the home and they had found meth. They had lost their home because of this and despite all that that day where there to pick up their three kids. This was their third time having their kids removed by CPS.

@oldskhool4eva I was told by this former CPS worker that they prey on the lower income out of work mothers and parents because they will not have the financial ability to fight them. I had lost my job because of my son's hospitalization but being an educated person with a career could command a 6 figure salary and quickly got back to work. They didn't count on that and that is how I was able to get the legal representation I needed to get my daughter back home.

There are many innocent families that would benefit from aggressive legal help who know the CPS system. Unfortunately that kind of representation doesn't come cheap. The issue helping w/ funding for things like this is being able to understand the facts and make sure you are helping the right people.

I love them. Since the corruption they witness in my case they have declined to work for CPS any longer. Fact was foster parents were more than willing to adopt my daughter if returning to my care was not in the best interest of the child. The state stood to make money from this case but alas their plans were foiled. I have three kids and I handle them very well. I love each and everyone of them and couldn't imagine my life with out just one of them.

If any of ya'll have seen tv crime shows that start off saying "based on a true story" you can see when the criminal and his lawyer are in the interrogation room, the police eventually tell evidence and the criminal admits in some way of doing the crime, the lawyer, without acting suprised AT ALL sometimes will try to make a deal with the police to shorten time.
That happens in real life too, not just movies.
The lawyers that do that are only trying to make money, or are criminals themselves

Lets take "Liar Liar" (Movie staring Jim Carry I believe) It may be "Just a movie" but in real life lawyers act just like him, trying to lie so his/her client wins, that's what gets the lawyers money. no win = nothing, and winning = money.
I've seen shows where lawyers talk the child into giving in and lying about things. Some shows even say kids can't be trusted in court rooms cause they are easily "Coached" into telling lies or false info

My experience with CPS is that they are not malicious but are singularily worthless when you wish to put in a complaint about a situation involving a child. After dealing with them for years trying to help my little sister, I finally forgot them, hired a paralegal, filled out forms and finally took my dad to court myself. The court decided in favor of my becoming my sister's legal guardian. I've never regretted my decision.

@InnocenceDestroyed- I thought this was a very well thought out 3 part documentary and hope to see the film when it comes out. I have been fighting for 5 years and have photographic as well as documented evidence of her being abused whilst in CPS custody - but I still have not got her back....

as being one of those kids who was raised in foster care, abused in foster care but Therapist, Foster parent(s) {{more then one home}} I was one of the lucky who made it out alive. I went in at age 7 and ran away and choose to live on the street at age 15 to avoid abusive foster homes anymore. While My family was abusive..I was no better in their care. Its a sham.

@Emma2c4u Child Protective Services (CPS) is a government-run agency that steps in when they believe that the children will not be safe in the care of their parents, and takes steps to either remove the child to a safer home or to work with the parent(s) to improve their home.
Unfortunately, the guidelines they use to say "You're abusive and we must take your kids!" are too broad... so they take kids who aren't in danger. And apparently don't check out the foster homes enough either.
