i have a deck that uses this, works well in 2hg. i tossed in a kami of false hope, as well as some ronom unicorns. they tend to help out quite a bit, and are cheap to buy.
@gaersofwar Mana pools empty at the end of each phase. so really, before main phase is even over. but doesn't matter because there's a plethora of great ways to win with all that mana. I would actually lose the Dragon's Fang/Wurm's Tooth tho, I don't think you really need the life and those spots could be better used for control
@lifeinsepia game 1 you might win, game 2 the opponent knows what you do and simply counter everything you want to do. a combo is best countered at its very start, not when it actually starts to combo.
and there are many combos like this.. like intruder alarm and "tap-some-elves-for-a-creature" or other..
@bylooon I'd just counter their counters. That's what the veil and guttural response are for. Use them to get the vexing shusher out, then protect it using some counter magic of your own. Having a combo deck is a mistake, you need a deck with a combo winner.
I'd recommend a Felidar Sovereign to abuse the infinite life. Also, Rain of Gore is a much-ignored card that can here turn all of that gain into loss. Maybe some enchantment killers could work in the sideboard.
If you like this combo You may also want to throw in a Blasting Station and either Phyrexian walkers or Ornithopters. You can get ass loads of life, but use the Blasting station Orny combo for the win. (Fruity Pebbles Deck) Basically sacing a 0ccc to BS doin 1dmg each time and playing it for free rinse and repeat.
Storm is a triggered ability, when the grapeshot goes on the stack the storm triggers placing copies of the spell on the stack upon resolution of the storm trigger. The only way to stop the is to counter the trigger ability with a card like stifle or trickbind. Countering the original spell does not stop the triggered ability from resolving.
@brittonsm Naturally, the copies are still there no matter what. Storm is casting the same spell multiple times for the cost of only one cast. People forget. A counter only stops one spell.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the combo with storm doesnt work if they counter grapeshot. remember the original spell has to come into to play for storm to take effect. counter prevents the spell from being played
That's not true. At the initial casting the storm ability triggers and all copies go on the stack. Trickbind or the like is the only way to stop the storm trigger.
I didn't take the time to check the comments for this combo so if a restate it, I am sorry. How about Enduring Renewal, Nantuko Hush, and ornothopter, and infinite/infinite creature, gristle grinner also works. Death greeter also infinite life, how about dragon fodder?
Is Enduring Renewal allowed in Extended format? I think it is, right? Its a classical card, but some classical cards are allowed there if they are after 7th edition.
Throw a summoners pact in there for a faster combo potential " If you dont have wild cantor in your hand you can search for her to complete your combo if the other pieces of the combo are already set up and ready to go off"
@fr0stb1te ok...but...before thinking about how to counter the combo...could we use cantor's ability when it's just summoned?no summon weakness?can i sacrifice it when it's just summoned?if i can do that, i can play birds of paradise and tap it immediatly for another mana for another bird and again and again too...i think there's something wrong... ;) but it's a nice idea!!
@zestini well there's a difference you haven't noticed
summoner sickness doesn't make a creature unable to use abilities - it makes it unable to attack or use abilities that require it to TAP
so u can use a creatures ability when it enters play as long as it doesn't have to tap. sac'ing is not taping so the cantor is legal the bird of paradise aint
@Walrustimesfive Lol if wild cantor was countered enduring renewal wold return it to your hand. The only ways this combo can be attacked are by either countering enduring renewal (I would recommend either including or side boarding auramancer to return it to your hand so you don't depend on drawing another or drawing a tutor) or by removind the renewal with a card like oblivion ring. Of course this is not to say the combo is bad, combos are generally weak to a well made control deck.
Yeah, what music was that, it is really good, I want to download it, and nice combo, used to play it back in the day, problem is they would always counter the enduring renewal.
jaja the las part was very fun it says "if your opponets have a conter" jaja if your opponet really got a counter spell he will counter the wild cantor before u get many life or the 20 spells for the storm jaja
If the opponent had a counterspell obviously he would have countered Wild Cantor. He wouldn't have waited for you to play grapeshot ( since you are playing with your hands revealed he should see that playing many times Wild Cantor is really bad )... :P
OK i ran a deck with enduring renewal (this was a very old deck). It was black/white. Ornithopter was my sacrificial card of choice, I used Ashnod's Altar to do the sacrificing. Also you can use Fallen Angel for the kill. Minion of lechrec thinned out the creatures. Hell's caretakers to get creatures into play. There were some fun things i used to keep my opponents crying (just think black/white removal that cost less than 4) but i cant remember them ATM i haven't played MTG in some 4-5 years.
Well, heres how I see this, With the people I play with (noobs) They only use the bluse spell, counterspell. So as long as they are not using that, I would be okay lol.
If the opponent had a counterspell obviously he would have countered Wild Cantor. He wouldn't have waited for you to play grapeshot ( since you are playing with your hands revealed he should see that playing many times Wild Cantor is really bad )... :P
If storm is an effect of the spell, and I counter it the moment you declare you are playing the sorcery - how does the effect of the spell take place (namely storm)? It doesn't make sense.
Supposing this is true, I could play a creature that said "when this comes into play..." and even if you counter it, the effect still takes place.
Counter spells prevent a spell from coming into play, so no, storm does not take effect.
as soon as a spell goes on the stack. the storm ability is triggered. Thus, before you can counter, the copies are already on the stack. This is the main reason storm decks are so powerful. Because they are so hard to counter
and if your creature says "when this comes into play" the ability is not triggered. But if it says "when you play this" it is. even if it is countered.
This is tricky, but the storm effect triggers from playing the spell, not from the spell resolving. If you were to counter any spell the player still gets credit for playing the spell even though the spell never came into play. Think about it like this, you tap the mana, put the spell on the table, you just now successfully played a spell, the spell gets countered, it goes to your graveyard, you still gain any abilities from playing a spell even if the spell itself does not go into effect.
great, so according to you, dakmor lancer destroys a non-black creature no matter what... I don't buy it. As far as I knew, first you tap the mana then you play the spell. Once the spell becomes registered, its effects take place. The problem with your idea is that the spell is NOT successfully played if you counter-spell it.
No, Dakmor Lancer says it destroys a non black creature when it comes into play, if it's countered it never came into play. There is a difference between playing a spell and a spell coming into play. Storm goes into effect when the spell is played, not when it comes into play.
i have a question.....i have a stream hopper.....its a red blue hybrid....if you tap a red/blue mana it gains flying....now if i give it shroud....i can still play the creatures ability because i am not targeting it....if im correct can you please give me a link because i have been looking all day.....
So, I got these carsds today, so I will try if the combo works. I made it red-green and white is just the renewal. I hvae there elves for any lands. Destroy enchantments and artifacts that they will not stop the combo etc.
I have a different yet amusing deck based off of Cloudstone curio any type of kobold that costs 0 and grapeshot...that i can get if things go well on the first turn...but usually within the first 5 turns.
Here's one: Two Sensei's Divining Top, 1 helm of awakening, and a brain freeze. Play the helm of awakening, then cast the two tops for FREE, repeat the tap to draw/ top deck the other top individually as many times as desired, then brainfreeze to win. Or grapeshot. Either Or. Game Over. I use this combo in counter/control just incase they wanna try to counterspell ne thing.
Yeah I recently built this into a deck and scrapped the artifact for both essence warden and soul warden. I will put a full deck list to the video description to the right if you are interested in how I built it. It still is kind of slow and doesn't work against aggro to well. I think grapeshot is the best choice for this deck.
yea grapeshot is, made a deck on this idear in t2, my problem is i can't use wildcantor so im using Ornitopter and a sacrifice engine like Nantuko husk hes also my kill. If u know a creature in t2 like wild cantor or have any idears to improve it plz write, is ures t2 aswell? if so ide love to see a decklist.
no but it dose work , and ive actually gotten the combo gouing playing husk first its black so they have to use some good removal on it, then when i go off i play the soul warden then the enchantment play ornitopter and sac away ! for infi life and a big ass husk, i try to make it better by cutting some cards from the combo and put in search spells like Diabolic Tutor and also play Negate and Pact of negation to make it more stable, its pretty fun. but not good enought.

Another one for ya noob.
Playing a spell means put it to stack. Counter doesn't prevent from playing, but from resolving..
Counters simply put the spell they target from stack to their owner graveyards nothing more..
If a spell is already on the stack, it already had been played or put there by some effect.
PS: A played spell is already on the stack.
PS 2: Some random noobs like ya ruin the game...
