@bullshipus123 You know you want to buy it. Yeah, I sell them. I also love them, own them, and shoot them. My hobby became my job. So... you want it or not? Cause I only have one left.
The price of this rifle here in the Philippines is Php 300,000 or equivalent to US$ 6,670. Very expensive for us to buy. Civilians here are allowed to buy any kinds of firearms even machine pistols, submachine guns, automatic rifles, assault rifles. Name it you can have it here. Our government is very liberal when it comes to firearms.
@eduardodeleon1 You can have them yes but they don't seem any where close to affordable. In the USA we can have these in most of the states as well and they are less than 2000usd.
@timg555 I agree with you sir. Would you believe, I bought my Ruger 10/22 RPF (synthetic stock, blued barrel) during a gun show here last November 18, 2011 for 26,000 Pesos, equivalent to US$ 604? If you are a gun enthusiast and you live in the US you are very lucky because best quality firearms are made in your country and you can buy these for much cheaper price.
@hondafan606 The choice of rifle really isn't as important as the choice of Optics and Ammunition. You buy a good quality gun - you are off to a good start. Just get the one you like the best.
Really interested in buying one, until now I have only fired my late father's old fashioned 30-30 winchester and .35 Marlin. I'm really interested in buying this one as a new installment. Can you tell me if it is legal to own in NY state? I'm not too familiar with the laws but I've heard that the muzzle break might make it illegal to own in NY.
G'day MadOgre, watch a few of your videos. I'd consider this more of a varmint/tactical rig rather than a dangerous game rifle. Not to nit-pick but you wouldn't want to be carrying this around all day at 5.4kg before scope and ammo.
@223fox I would have to put them both side by side and shoot them both... that's a hard thing to say which would do better. I've seen both do utterly amazing groups. I wouldn't bet against either!
I've been thinking of getting a good bolt action. Something that could be used for hunting (I'm thinking this MORE than adequate lol), or maybe WROL situations (I've got an AK and Socom 16 for the heavy lifting though). Would this be suited, or is it strictly for ultra long ranges? (I'm new to firearms, as if it's not clear already lol)
@ThaddeusMcSpalding Long Ranges? No. .308 can make hits to 1000 yards, but the energy at that range is that of a .38 Special +P. Not much. So it's totally unsuitable for any hunting past 400 yards. For Ultra Long Range shooting, or big game past 400, you need a Magnum.
@MadOgre lol, I'm not even that good to pull that kind of shot off anyway. But for something like a good homeland defense rifle that can double as a deer rifle if the opportunity presents itself, it would be fine right? I guess what I'm trying to say is this: Would using this rifle for a wrol bolt gun/deer gun be silly if it's basically a rifle that's TOO qualified. Like, bringing a grenade launcher to a gun fight kind of thing.
@ThaddeusMcSpalding Really you would be disappointed, this gun is too heavy and cumbersome to do anything other than what it is specifically designed to be - a Precision Rifle. What it sounds like to me - is that you want a rifle that can Multi-Task... like a Rem 700 XCR Compact Tactical.
@MadOgre You're right, that'd be more practical. But...this is far too awesome to pass up lol. I could however take a .308 remington 700, put an accuracy international stock on it, and it'd be the best of both worlds :D And thank you for your time, it's nice to have good sources of information.
@MadOgre I understand. So we are talking for an amount of energy about 2000ft/lbs at any distance. Right? A magnum has at least double of the energy of a .308 at all distances.
@263584 They can, but you don't have to have a magnum... just the right bullet and good placement. An ethical hunter has to know his limitations. Basically MOPP Accurate. Minute of Paper Plate. Take some Paper Plates and put them out at distance in 50 yard increments and engage them from different shooting positions - none of them from a Bench. If you can't reliably and consistently hit that paper plate - it's too far. A flatter shooting Magnum can help you get that hit.
Im thinking about gettin a tactical rifle and cant decide between this or the Steyr SSG 04 has anyone shot either or preferably both, and what did you think. I would be looking at the .308 any help would be appreciated
@GeneralG1810 I own quite a few sniper rifles, all high end. How much are you looking to spend for the rifle and what do you intend on using it for? The use will tend to dictate the type of weapon, plus what is your body type, lbs, height, and arms length. This is all important in how to select and chose the proper set up.
@gunman5945 Gday Im 6'2 and weigh around 270lb dont know my arms length. Over here a CZ 750 cost around $3500 AUD bare rifle thats about on budget. I only want it for target shooting either benchrest or prone
@GeneralG1810 It sounds to me as though you are looking for a Weatherby Vanguard S2, a Tikka or even a Howa. If you're not a sniper and simply enjoy target shooting then you don't need to spend premium dollars for sniper equipment (and may actually be foolish to do so). The Vanguard S2 comes with a sub-moa guarantee as does the Tikka and either will require a fourth of the initial investment or less. The Howas do not carry the guarantee, but you're as likely as not to have a rifle that...
@GeneralG1810 (pt 2) ...will print groups smaller than an inch after you shoot it in. I'm 6'5" and weigh around 270. While my custom length of pull would really be 16.5"-17", I've never had any trouble shooting a 13.5" LOP rifle and it can be corrected easily by adding a slip-on recoil pad. You simply do not need to spend huge dollar amounts for a very, very accurate rifle and there are things that you can do yourself to vastly improve the accuracy of an out-of-the-box gun.
@frankgon4 Basically youd could put whatever you want on it, however if you can afford this kind of rifle you can afford good qual glass for it. Youd prob look at something like a Nightforce or schmidt and bender. If theyre too far out of your price range maybe a Leupold VX 3 and up or Zeis maybe. But if you put cheap glass on it like a Nikko Stirling (personally I wouldnt even put one on my .22) youll never use the rifles full potential and it will rattle apart from the shock after time.
That means that not enough people know what it is. We - as in the story I work in - is the only store in the NATION that moves these things regularly. I got that tidbit from CZ. Any CZ dealer can sell you one, but we are the only one that moves these on a regular basis. That tells me people just don't know what it is.
It's a fantastic rifle. It out shoots guns costing double or more.
Will the 750 Magazines work in the CZ-550 Varmint? They both have removable mags, and those feed lips, follower and retention point look identical. I was hoping to find out from you guys before I decided to order one. I love my Varmint, and can only imagine how nice this 750 would be. Have you guys ever received any of the CZ-550 Magnum HETs yet?
I got a cz 750 s1m1. It's 308 win. The barrel is 26 inches long without the muzzle brake. and yes, the brake is removable with a 18x1 twist. Nice rifle, no sako or tikka will take its place in my gunsafe :)
I got this gun 6 months ago, my first rifle. But just today (9-6-09) I won my first match shoot with it. 111 being perfect i shot a 102,102,104 with 14 X's (bull eyes) total points 308. The range being 200 yards. When i first got this gun people were like "why didn't i get a remington" but now there asking me where to get one. One more thing i shot 600 yards with it and got a 4 in group. This gun is for real a huge secret in long range shooting!!!!!
Once you start using reloads those groups will get unbelievable. I see you got a night force scope very nice. But for your next scope try one of these Viper 6-20x44 or any of the viper scopes for the money they are great. libertyoptics. com. With that scope I paid 400 something and schooled the guy at the range. Also I was target shooting at 600 and then we seen a ground hog at 200 yards dialed it in and hit the ground hog. The scope holds zero. What bullets using?
I bought one, and I'm very pleased with it, though I haven't taken it out to shoot just yet. Also bought a Ziess Conquest scope to go with it, though the scope mounts that came with the rifle are for a CZ 550 and don't fit onto that rail for some reason, no big deal I can easily sell those if I wish and get the right ones.
I might add, I bought all my items from Basin Guns, great folks, I highly recommend.
I don't know... don't have a tape measure handy... but really that doesn't make much difference.
The break is not removable.
Well, US Secret Service uses 7mm Rem Mag for Counter Sniping work. The only reason .270 Win isn't used is not so much a cartridge thing, but a Legacy thing. All the sniper rifle actions everyone has are short actions for .308. Few long actions are out there other than the new run of big guns...

@263584 At that range, .308 is marginal... we're talking very borderline. You need to really know that you can place your shot at that range.
