  • Dave's all "I have no idea how to mime these guitar parts."

  • It's crate!

  • I love this song, Fred Frith thought this was the greatest wah wah guitar playing ever put on record, I'm inclined to agree.

  • @egyptianminor I don't disagree that his songs were whimsical and refreshing. My point is that people base a stance that Barrett Floyd is better than the classic lineup. Any album that had Barrett on it was when he was strung out and going through the motions. Comparing Piper plus the three songs in which he participated on Saucer to DSOTM, Meddle, and AHM is like this song. Apples and oranges. But which one stands the test of time better? Which one are you more inclined to listen to?

  • There's a lot of sentimentality with Syd. That doesnt escape the fact that he was a poor musician and a mediocre singer. And in the end he was writing songs about his bike. Unless you have a pre 1967 recording of him, every sample that we have of his work is when he was so strung out that he was barely functional. A couple of lucid moments don't make for a good sample of his talents. See Emily Play is a cute song as is Arnold Layne, yet those songs are stuck in that era just like The '86 album

  • @zeeterus If you mean poor instrumentalist yes,and average singer,ok but he was never about technique, but about a musical personality and creativety, very original @ the time; TONS of stuff from the late '60s sound dated- including some 'Fab Four's songs-but great in the overall context. Roger's not very fond of his 'Take up thy Stetoscope.." song either, but those naïve times, today we face a harsh 'market reality'. Mind you, I like the post Barrett Floyd Much better than Syd's.

  • The guitarist is Gilmour. Syd refused to lip sync the song so waters did.

  • Floyd

  • Actually the guitarist is Gilmour I am almost positive.

  • whats a mellotron anyways?

  • I find some of these comments humorous that say PF was better with Syd in it. Syd was too far gone by the time their first two albums came out to be truly effective. Anyone who thinks See Emily Play can rival Echoes or anything from DSOTM is a sad judge of talent. Astonome Domine is probably their best Syd era song. Sure - Syd got them started, but without his departure, or at least the addition of Gilmour, the band would have likely become a studio soundtrack band.

  • @zeeterus syd was better not because he had more talent but because his emotions can be felt through the music more than the after barrett life of PF

  • @zeeterus i don't agree. see emily play it's a classic and i love it just like i love dsotm...

  • Let's just all agree that Pink Floyd is the greatest band of all time. And while we're at it, Gods among men.

  • This is like one of the worst rock video's ever made. you can see the group are really struggling without Syd Barrett,

  • Guy's, chill out over weather Pink was better with or without Syd. It's a matter of opinion. Pink has always been comprised of very talented musicians. We miss you Syd. Pink Floyd will never die!

  • In See Emily Play, Richard Wright looks mortified that he's supposed to be lip-syncing. Here, Roger Waters looks like his best dream's come true.

  • VEGETABLE MAN WHERE ARE YOU?!

  • at 1:28 that's barret!! -___-U

  • @imlenin thats Richard Wright - keyboards, vocals, organ, piano, synthesizers, mellotron

  • Yeah, that might be the time when the band were experiencing difficulties with Syd, that's why they appeared instead amongst David... And every PF fan knows that Roger Waters really loves this song, calling it: the most underrated early PF song ever... That's why he appeared 'singing'...

  • Apples and oranges are for good. Was this song like one commercial? Guys looked like they were well vitaminised.

  • millo24 are you so ignorant that you can't see that if it wasn't for syd barrett pink floyd would have never had a sound to go off of they took his orignal sound and fucking ran with it and kicked him out of the band seriously think about it go listen to any syd barrett song from early pink floyd they kept that sound til they broke so if you're going to say syd is terrible you're saying that pink floyd is terrible seeing as how he was the genuis of the project

  • @supermariobrothersha this pink floyd firsts songs really brilliant : )

  • this pink floyd firsts songs really sucked

  • @millo24 You suck right now

  • @millo24 are you retarded. the earliest ones were the best. retard.

    RIP syd and rick.

  • @maaannddy There is no Pink Floyd after Syd.

  • That was the last song written and performed by Syd for the band. This is NOT Roger Water's voice. Syd Barrett refused to move his mouth while the rest of the band lip-synched this. Syd decided that because John Lennon had refused to lip sync Beatles songs on a similar show, he wouldn't either.

  • got a flip top pack of cigarettes in my pocket feeling good a t the top shopping at shops

    Excellent

    RIP Syd n Rick

  • @ thepynkbyrd, Syd never got the boot dumbass. If it wasn't for Syd the next 5 albums would have never been written

  • this was actually David Gilmour's first work with the band after Syd got the boot

  • The year is '67.

  • Syd Barret is without question the original talent of Pink Floyd

  • Wright looks really cute on the organ in this video.

I love the song as well, of course!!

  • The Barrett years were the best. Only fools don't recognize that !!!!

  • LMAO! Roger's face 0:06 hahaha

  • I didn;t know that Floyd started out making rubbish. Sounds a bit like a wannabe Beatles tune gone horribly wrong.

  • @Huntster They started out great. this is after their first album. Only between Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of Secrets was when they made their 'bad" songs. They were kind of lost without Syd at first.

  • @Huntster gone horribly right you mean

  • Reg RULES

  • the lyrics to this seem kinda wierd but its a great song!

  • ...some people are so..... critical and harsh ...obvisosly Syd Barret didnt give if Rodger Waters mouthed it other wise he wouldnt be doing it and syd barret would.... just enjoy the song.. and stop arguing and grow up a little..

anyywayy i Love this song :D

  • Love Rogers face at 2:37 in

  • I think I remember reading maybe that Barrett was actually there, he just refused to appear on camera. Would have been interesting to see footage of him with Gilmour. I could be mistaken though.

  • @12toedfeet Yes. He actually refused to move his lips. So Roger did it in his place.

  • Waters didn't pretend to be Syd, but Syd refused to move his lips on this video, so Waters did it. And that's why we don't see Syd.

  • Look at Waters lip sync to Barrett, he looks so stupid. What a horse's ass, what a soulless buffoon. What a selfish and greedy wanker.

  • @RogerBarrettLives He looks stupid man, because he's got the English sense of humor, they all do, some people just can't recognize or appreciate it. The Beatles do the same thing but because they're the greatest band in the world, no one gives them shit. And fuck, I don't see why you have to try and bring me down, I'm just trying to defend a good musician, my favorite musicain, because a good majority of people that write shit on these types of things are ignorant, close-minded assholes...

  • @RogerBarrettLives wasn't roger's fault that syd barrett went catatonic when it came time to do videos...or perform live, or do pretty much anything else

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck all you mother fuckers, Roger Waters is the shit. Musical genius, ever wonder who came up with the sickest bass riff in musical history (Money)? Yeah, he's cute as hell too and has a full, cool, and distinct voice, and drama is what good music is all about, it gives it depth.

  • @CrystalJadeDavis

Problem Child by LA's Wasted Youth has a much better bass riff, loads of songs do. Lay off the coke Honey. Waters is a hideously ugly man who sold his soul to Satan for fame and fortune, that much is clear.

  • man there was some good drugs back then

  • As usual , Nick in the back with his usual ability.

  • lol 2:23, just amazing, from singing Apples and Oranges to sing in a few years later non the less than Another Brick On The Wall!!, that's the proof that Pink Floyd is GRANDE!!!

by the why, I'm sure that those 27 idiots tought the song actually talks about apples and oranges lol

  • whaleface whalefae whaleface whaleface whaleface whaleface whaleface.

  • David can sing Wish You Were Here better than whaleface ever could

  • @ZOSOrulz1 you shut your whore mouth

  • @ZOSOrulz1 you shut your whore mouth this is a peaceful zone

  • @ZOSOrulz1 you shut your whore mouth!

  • @ZOSOrulz1 that's probably why whaleface had dave sing HIS LYRICS on many songs.

  • dude, Whaleface here looks stupid lip syncing. lol whaleface.

  • acutually...that is syd barrett singing.roger was miming to it.

  • i wanna play that on guitar its so trippy and amazing!

  • 2:58

  • Funny because Waters could never in a million years sing that well:L haha

  • @mward1995 stfu waters is an awesome singer

  • @TheBeatlefloyd Well I'm sorry but Waters isn't "an awesome singer" compared to Gilmour, Barrett and Wright. It is a known fact he had to get Wright to tune his bass during the Barrett years and some songs he's average but others plain awful. Love his lyrics but just let Gilmour sing for gods sake Roger! haha

  • @mward1995 wow... well thats what you think, i think Roger Waters has an amazing voice, i truly like his voice better than Barrett's, who was still a genius, its just my opinoin, and what you said is also JUST AN OPINION, and i highly doubt its a known fact that Wright, who i also love dearly, tuned his bass, it could be true, but i'm not taking your word for it sorry

  • @mward1995 Waters used to have vocals capacities Dave could never even dream of. His dramatic voice was a key element for albums like Animals and The Wall, and as far as I remember, and had a much bigger vocal range. But I gotta admit Roger could never sing with this beautiful/calm tone both Dave and Rick both could have.

  • @Canaveral305 roger could write good songs, but dave can sing calmer. roger has the more evil sounding voice more suited to the Wall. plus roger turned into a butthole so they kicked him out and were still good. also he's a whaleface.

  • @ZOSOrulz1 they didn't kick Roger out, he left...dood you're a fucking retard and don't know shit about the floyd...read some books or something

  • @marnold6879 o ya i guess he did leave. oh well, even if he didnt leave they would have kicked his controlling ass out eventually... and no i dont know much about them but i like their music and have DSOTM, WYWH and their first album. all i know is that syd went crazy, roger took over and went crazy with power, he left and MLOR was so 80's sounding it kinda sucked, the DB was the last album, and they arent touring together anymore for some stupid reason.

  • @Canaveral305 I'm sorry but there is no hope in hell Waters has the 'vocal copacities' of David Gilmour. He couldn't dream to sing half as well as Gilmour. Maybe he's good for dramatic voices but that's not music...that's acting. And Pink Floyd were MUSICIANS not ACTORS. We're talking singing not dramatic voices! I love Water's lyrics and songs but he cannot sing as well as Gilmour.

  • @mward1995 "Maybe he's good for dramatic voices, but that's not music" is one of the stupidest things I ever read, seriously. It IS music, and it IS singing. And "singing well", is subjective. Dave sure had a really beautiful voice, but Roger had more capacities. Which he didn't fully use, and probably ruined by smoking too much, but still...

  • @Canaveral305 i aggree with the rick part but not dave and you make a good point

  • AWESOME

  • Not Syd's best and Paintbox was much better. However, you can see another influence Blur ripped off. Jeez at 2:23 it sounds just like Blur.

Poor Rick - he seemed very uncomfortable being in a rock band. Paintbox shows he could have been a much bigger contributor to the band. RIP Rick and Syd.

  • Watching Roger sync "Thought you might like to know! I'm her lorry driver-man" with that ridiculous look on his face is the best thing about this video.

  • I think this promo video kinda fucked up the song, but its whatever.. Classic Barrett tune.. but with no Barrett in the video.. ha

  • @WheelChairBndit

I think that is David Gilmour

    Malc

  • @WheelChairBndit , that's david gilmour.

  • @ummagumma024 its a mindfuck....they make it look like Roger is singin the tune and im pretty sure that David wasnt even in the band at the time!! they must have made this a few years later..good stuff..good stuff!

  • this is so british

  • @truthasfineprint all the best bands are british so fuck your mother

  • @hindolian I think Pink would find your petty nationalism funny. Just enjoy the music; there's no need to declare war on any comments you can possibly perceive as stupid.

  • I can imagine Eminem doing a cover of this...

  • @AJtheory wanker

  • @sikthsikth

    lol...we don't do that in America....btw, I don't know if i understand...are you saying 'wank-ah' ?

  • *typical Internet wanker* OMG, LOOK AT ROGAR IZ LIPSYNCING!!1!! *end typical internet wankar*

  • Without Syd they very quickly dissolved into behaving like The Monkees for a necessary period. Then having regrouped, they spent the rest of their careers waxing lyrical on the 'pre Monkees' days. Great music no doubt, but pragmatists one and all.

  • man i love early floyd. my interest dies down sometime after meddle. i really can't stand their mid-late 70s arena rock incarnation.

  • @theredkatana so you dont like dark side the wall animals wish you where here the final cut a momentary lapse of reason or the division bell

  • @theredkatana really you dont like obscurred and darkside or wish you were here or animals the wall the final cut momentary lapse or the division bell. oh wait you think that is arena rock? have you ever listened to arena rock? arena rock is stuff like boston, reo speedwagon, styx, journey, and literally every rock band in the 80s, so dont call pink floyd anything but progressive or you just make yourself sound stupid.

  • @pyromaniarules pink floyd went through more than one phase, dumbass. their early stuff was psych rock, they blossomed into the prog band everyone loves (and i don't care for), and finally culminated in the bland stadium stuff (like the wall). it may have not sounded like journey or boston, but it was just pop rock with a progressive flavor thinly coated on top. the wall was hardly challenging or 'progressive'. overlong pop songs doesn't count. another brick in the wall is basically disco

  • @theredkatana really psych rock dont you mean space rock. and whats wrong with progressive rock? and how could you call the wall pop? there is no way anything pink floyd did that was ever close to pop or anything else mainstream. and it seems you like them best with syd and thats it? come on dont you think that doing just spcae rock would get boring after a while? i mean they didnt even like it or they wouldn't have stopped playing almost all of it live.

  • @theredkatana oh wait you said another brick in the wall is disco! now i know you are crazier than syd became. i dont even know how you got disco from anything they ever did. are you this dumb with other great bands or is it just pink floyd?

  • @pyromaniarules Another Brick in the Wall (each part) isn't exactly disco, but its beat is defined as a disco beat.

  • 2:35 Roger Waters come face:L

  • Roger looked like a dork here. They look totally lost without their frontman Syd. Amazing how they found their way quite nicely not too soon afterwards.

  • how they dare filming this song if syd didnt participate? not cool

  • @ElFlakoRompanTodo Well syd was out of the band when this promo video was recorded.

  • I wonder how floyd would have been if Syd, didn't lose it. It's interesting to think about.

  • Bottle of whiskey on the organ, that wouldn't be politically correct these days!

  • Early Floyd were great, the music developed after Syd left, but it doesn't have that same ethereal, Psychedelic quality.

  • Gilmour plays dummy for Syd

  • Anyone else get reminded by Sgt. Peppers when they hear this song? Especially at 2:21 Not saying there's any relation between the two, I'm sure its purely coincidental.

  • roger sounds just like syd!

  • @pyrrho314 I wonder why.

  • @paulsmartialarts : telepathy and telekinesis most likely

  • @pyrrho314 ~ what brand is that (:38) * ~

  • @TJae1 That's impossible to see

  • @Vleertouwer ` 2 wks 2 pier-ro ~ how's that

  • Comment removed

  • @Vleertouwer ~ ask pier-ro ~ not Me * (tip)

  • @Vleertouwer ~ tip ~ familarity wrks wonders

  • @pyrrho314 ~ U must know this brand (:38) what is it :

  • i sing this song in my head, often

  • What the fuck I never had any idea that this even existed how what so weird

  • @martinrking It's the record company's fault for not making the original Relics album an extensive double. CRIMINAL.

  • pink floyd is soo crazy, I love them.

  • 2:33 rogers face is funny!! lol

  • Stupid nice song

  • rick!!

  • Che tempi quelli =)

  • 1:34 Richard looks happy!

    R.I.P. Syd and Rick!

1:54 Nick like Lionel Luthor =P

  • 1:34 Richard looks happy!

    R.I.P. Syd and Rick!

  • Roger Waters thinks he's Syd Barett in this clip how cute...

  • Comment removed

  • @Nobodie92

Richard Wright looks like Robyn Hitchcock, who sounds like Syd Barrett

  • Sandro28gizz>> No, I didn't mean that on the letter. I meant that he was still in the band, but in so very bad shape/condition because of all acid/LSD, so he couldn't play and sing. But he managed to get himself together so much that he's on the first LP (The piper at the gates of dawn)

    R.I.P. Roger "Syd" Barrett

    R.I.P. Rick Wright

  • thank u for this !!!!!!!!!!!

  • wtf thats syds voice i dont kno why they made Waters lip sing to syds voice its kinda stupid

  • @XxCrystalxRainxX Syd Said;" If john Lennon doesn't do it ( Mime Words) Then why should I do it!?"

  • RIP syd barret.

  • Syd wrote it, and Syd was in the background too.

  • @Solvinden I didn't see Syd in the background.

  • Why am I reading some comments of pple bitching about Roger lip synching to this song?...Do you really believe that he's trying to take credit for it?

Obviously this was a promotional appearance not long after Barrett's departure..Who else was supposed to mime the lyrics?...Roy Harper?

  • How uncomfortable can this be? They all look so counterfeit as they pantomime to a song that is clearly Syd's. Surely they were pushed into it by their record company at the time.

Especially Gilmour who was not even in PF when this was recorded!

  • Roger Waters Liar! Syd was the real singer of this song not you!

  • wtf is Gilmour doing in this video anyway?

  • @blodbiff1 in '68 pink floyd wanted syd to stay as their songwriter. Syd wrote apples and oranges, scream the last scream, vegetable man and jugband blues after he left Pink Floyd. So Gilmour "replaced" Syd. (no one can replace syd)

  • It's funny how they cut off David Gilmour's head, so ppl wouldn't know it's not Syd

  • the beatles, then pink floyd, those are my to fav bands, but i put the beatles first. pink floyds stuff like teleports you out of this world though lol

  • what a treat...hard to believe that they even made dark side of the moon

  • If Syd hadn't gone bonkers they might have continued making this kind of music (crap).

OR (more likely), this music was a result of Syd's madness.

  • Why the bloody HELL was this left off Relics '71?

  • Fuck me..This is where 'Blur' got it from...

  • @C0NTR4B455 graham coxon = massive admirer of syd barrett

  • @C0NTR4B455 what do you mean?

  • @C0NTR4B455 i was just thinking that

  • Im a big PF fan!!!especially the Gilmour era blows my mind. It is so genius!!But this song , which is very new to me, is a funny one :D

  • I love Roger Waters... (L)

  • As time went on, Waters started to resemble Jeff Bridges.

    No, really... : D

  • Is This off Relics?

  • PFs worst song LMFAO

  • @666MASTERTARIUM Disagree (1)

  • @Jarren202 : definitely man!tell me another song which is worse than this..?

  • @666MASTERTARIUM Most of Ummagumma (with the exception of Grantchester Meadows).

    The studio disc.

  • @666MASTERTARIUM But I understand that you personally dislike Apples and Oranges.

I am a massive fan of Syd's music, but I do like the post-Barrett material too.

  • @666MASTERTARIUM every pink floyd song is good to me

  • lets face it Paint Box was ok but this is very bad P.Floyd, yecchh.

  • @choonslinga Disagree (2)

  • satla!

  • geez horrible

  • It's scary to see Roger lip sync to Syd's vocals. And I wish Syd was in this promo video.

  • @XxKyokoSamaXx probly to stoned....

  • this totally reminds me of spinning

  • ah ok intéressant

  • this song sucks im a floyd fan but theres no floyd without syd... rogers face is a trip tho check that boy out its no wonder they done a song called scarecrow..gotta say tho if it wasnt for dave and the pompei video i wouldnt have picked a guitar up that was over 20 years ago and its one of the best decisions i ever made so thx floyd

  • Priceless! Roger lip synching over Sid's vocals. Thanks for sharing!
